Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -
Chapter 127 -
Chapter 127: Chapter
The driver’s side door swung open and Helena could see someone rushing out.
"Helena!" Alfonse greeted, his blue eyes sparkling like the moon above. "Wow, you’re pregnant."
Helena might have forgotten to tell her other best friend that she was pregnant.
"You didn’t know?" Rae chuckled. "I’m Rae by the way, Rae Blackwood, this one’s stepsister and best friend."
"Ah, I finally get to meet the infamous Rae," Alfonse teased as he offered Rae his hand to shake.
"I hope Helena has at least told you something good about me," Rae teased back.
"I like her," Alphonse said with a flirtatious grin on his lips. "Let’s get you both out of here."
Helena nodded as she let Rae load their bags into the car while she climbed into the front seat.
At first, they drove in silence.
There was a tense air in the car as Alphonse drove through the almost empty streets of the human city.
Rae and Helena couldn’t help but keep looking back, worried that someone would follow them.
It might have been months since they left and weeks since Romeo and his people had lost the scent of their trail, but they couldn’t be too safe. Romeo was still one of the most powerful Alphas in the world, and packs would be clamoring to ally themselves with him.
’Why are we running from our mate?’ Hera pressed.
Unlike most times, Helena and her wolf didn’t agree on her decision to run. Over the past few months, they’d argued over going home to their mate and pack.
’Because if we want Romeo and the pack to be safe we need to be as far from them as possible,’ Helena huffed as she watched the city pass.
’Our mate should be there when the little one is born,’ Hera growled in her head. ’He’s the father, he should be there.’
’He doesn’t even know!’ Helena shouted.
When they’d run, she’d already known she was pregnant, and having two potential heirs to the Grand Warlock was just asking for trouble.
When they finally passed the city’s border and entered the open road, Helena let out a breath she was holding and she felt Rae give her shoulder a squeeze.
"Okay, you’re gonna have to give me details, Helena," Alphonse said as he drove them, keeping his eyes on the road. "One moment we’re talking about how you want to avoid the Blood Moon and me coming over then radio silence."
"You coming over was never an option, Alphonse," Helena said as she leaned back in the passenger seat and sighed.
She didn’t want Alphonse visiting because she knew Romeo would tear him limb from limb out of jealousy.
"What if I was your mate?" Alphonse said as he gripped the steering wheel tightly. "What if we missed our chance because you refuse to let me into your world."
"Alphonse, we will not have this conversation—" Helena began to say before Alphonse cut her off mid-sentence.
"I don’t care who’s baby that is, Helena," he said, his voice breaking. "If we are mates and I am quite confident that we probably are I will be the father that child deserves."
Helena’s jaw dropped at his declaration.
It seemed Alphonse had been so preoccupied with seeing her and seeing her pregnant that he didn’t bother to scent her.
Or maybe the baby’s scent just changed hers that’s why he hadn’t figured out that she was mated.
"Alphonse, we’re good friends, best friends, but I don’t see you that way," Helena sighed. "I thought I made myself clear enough."
"You can’t go against what the Moon Goddess has destined, Helena," Alphonse told her as he reached out to hold her hand.
Helena pulled away.
This wasn’t the man she knew, or maybe he was but she just hadn’t seen this side of him.
"Alphonse, I can’t—"
"You aren’t her mate," Rae suddenly said from the backseat. "Can’t you secent her?"
Alphonse glanced at Helena but he couldn’t look at her for too long since he was driving.
"What does she mean, Helena?" Alphonse asked with gritted teeth.
"I’m mated," Helena revealed.
"You’re mated? After avoiding the Blood Moon constantly?" Alphonse questioned as they sped along the highway.
Helena groaned.
This was a four-hour drive at the very least and the topic of mates was just about to make it an even longer ride than it should be.
She even wondered if Alphonse would still take them if he knew she was mated and with whom.
"Yes, Alphonse, I’m mated," Helena sighed as she leaned back and closed her eyes.
She hadn’t realized that her being mated would cause this big an issue with him.
Heck, she didn’t even think he really expected them to be mates. She thought she’d rebuffed all of his advances enough for him to realize that she wasn’t interested.
"And the kid’s dad, he’s your mate?" Alphonse pushed as they sped through the night, passing cars on the road.
"Yes," Helena answered.
"A wolf from your old pack?" Alphonse asked.
"Not old pack, Alphonse," Helena sighed. Blackmoon and Stonehill would always be her packs even if she was on the run. There was no way for her to detach herself from those packs.
They were home.
They were where she belonged.
’But we’re running away!’ Hera argued.
’To protect them,’ Helena answered calmly.
She didn’t know how many times she’d have to tell her wolf that leaving was protecting her people.
Since they consummated the bond with Romeo and Ryder being with her mate was all Hera cared about.
Helena simply attributed it to the pregnancy, it made her want to be with Rome too, but someone had to be the practical one and Helena didn’t mind that being her.
"Did he force you?" Alphonse asked.
"What?" she said, her gaze snapping to her friend as he ran his fingers through his hair.
"Fuck, Helena, did he forcibly mark and mate you? Is that why you’re running?" Alphonse questioned.
"No, Alphonse, I went willingly," she answered.
She heard a small growl come from her friend but he said nothing more.
Sunfire City was as vibrant as Helena remembered it to be, except with one start difference. There were checkpoints at the city entrance.
"Think they’ll report us to Rome?" Rae asked as she glanced at Helena nervously.
"It’s not part of our treaty with them to do so," Helena informed Rae. "But they are also allied with Stonehill, so they won’t report us without speaking to either me or my uncle first."
Rae nodded as Alphonse stopped at one of the barricades.
He’d been silent since they left the restaurant. Despite everything Helena and Rae had told him he refused to accept that it was the end of the line, that she would choose her mate.
"Alphonse Rivers," the warrior greeted with a nod. "Was told you left yesterday and now you’re back. Seems to be too quick a trip."
Alphonse grinned at the warrior.
"Look who I brought back," he said as he pointed at Helena who sat in the front passenger’s seat.
"Wow, did he win you back and convince you that you’re happier here at Sunfire, Helena?" the warrior wistled. "And pregnant at that."
The warrior’s gaze shifted between Helena and Alphonse carefully.
He obviously knew that Alphonse had been in Sunfire for the past four months and couldn’t be the child’s father. He was probably wondering if Helena was there willingly or if Alphonse had taken her from her mate.
"Just here for a visit," Helena said as she gave him a smile that should put the warrior at ease.
The man nodded, not bothering to ask any more questions.
He didn’t even notice Rae who was seated at the back seat.
"Friends of yours?" Rae asked as Alphonse drove them through the streets of Sunfire City.
It was still dark but it was a city that never slept.
"We work a lot with the Sunfire warriors," Alphonse explained.
"We?" Rae asked as she looked at Helena for an answer.
"Alphonse helps me from time to time with my ambassadorial duties,," she answered with a shrug. "Sunfire is one of the most central locations, so sometimes Alphas come to me rather than I to them."
Rae nodded in understanding.
"Where to?" Alphonse asked as he glanced at Helena.
"My place," she answered.
"Aren’t you worried that he’s having it watched?" Rae asked.
"Your brother, the Alpha?" Alphonse questioned. "Is he involved in the search for you?"
It then dawned on Helena that she hadn’t told Alphonse who her mate was. She was about to rectify the situation but then she hesitated.
Helena didn’t know why but she decided that she didn’t need to tell Alphonse who her mate and the father of her unborn child was.
"Rae’s his sister," Helena said. "And he is my stepbrother, it’s only natural that he’d come looking."
Rae gave Helena a look, one that Helena couldn’t quite decipher.
"I don’t think he’ll have my place here watched," Helena told Rae.
