Chapter 113: News

Romeo paced across the lobby of what was a well-guarded building.

Aside from what he assumed to be guards for the building, there were also warriors from the Sunfire pack waiting.

When he’d introduced who he was, they told him to wait, even offered him a seat in the lobby, but Romeo couldn’t stay seated. His mate was missing and Goddess knew what she was going through.

’Can you reach them? Feel them?’ Romeo asked his wolf, desperate for a clue as to her condition.

’It’s weak, or at least they feel weak,’ Ryder told him.

Romeo let a low growl loose, catching the attention of the guards and warriors.

’I’m going to kill whoever took her,’ Romeo hissed.

’They will pay,’ Ryder said in agreement. ’I’ll keep checking in on them and tell you when something changes.’

’Get some rest too,’ Romeo told his wolf. ’When we get a lead I’ll need you at your full strength.’

He felt his wolf agreeing before his presence faded.

Romeo waited for what felt like hours but was only, in reality, a few minutes. He was getting ready to demand Daniel for an explanation when his Beta entered the lobby and he wasn’t alone.

Daniel was flanked by two of the Sunfire Alphas, Victor Sunstrike and Jonathan Hellfire, with them was his sister Rae who looked pale.

"My mate came with you?" Rae asked Romeo before he could even speak.

"Yes," Romeo answered. "Do you want me to summon him?"

"Not for me, but yes, I think he should be here," Rae said as she looked down, her feet shuffling anxiously.

Romeo opened the link between him and his Gamma and reached out, calling for Kade.

’Where are you?’ Romeo asked as he felt Kade’s presence.

’Helping,’ Kade answered. ’I couldn’t find Rae then someone said some sort of attack happened and I helped.’

’Think you can find me?’ Romeo asked.

Kade went silent for a while, ’On my way.’

Romeo cut the connection as soon as he felt that Kade was headed toward them, he then turned his attention to the people standing before him.

"You better have a good reason for asking me to come here," Romeo hissed, glaring at the two Alphas. "My mate is missing and based on what my wolf can tell she’s weakened."

"We have our best trackers searching for her," Victor promised.

"And I’ll join the search as soon as we get this errr— matter dealt with," Rae added.

Something in the way she hesitated made Romeo wonder if there was more to what was happening. From his discussion with Daniel earlier he knew that his Beta was hiding something, it was only a question of what was the big secret.

"They won’t like you talking about this matter as a matter, you know," Daniel told Rae.

"They’ll both thank me later," Rae scoffed as her eyes drifted to the door.

Romeo could see the look of longing in her eyes. He knew his sister missed her mate, heck he went through the same thing missing Helena.

"Where is that Gamma of yours," Rae grumbled.

"You’re the one that ran, Rae," Romeo teased. "If you’d stayed you wouldn’t have to wait."

"I don’t regret it one bit, Rome," Rae said. Something about the way she spoke held more confidence. He could see that something had shifted in his sister, something had changed, and he was certain it was the good kind of change.

Romeo was about to speak when the door slammed open and Kade stood at the entrance, his gaze fixed on Rae.

"Kade," Rae gasped, sending Kade into a run.

Rae ran toward him and her mate caught her, wrapping his arms around her, and holding her tight as he pressed a kiss on her lips.

Romeo watched as all the anger and frustration that had been building up over the past months faded and Kade was simply happy to have Rae in his arms again.

"Why did you run, my spitfire?" Kade asked. "Why did you leave me? Did I do something? Was I lacking? Wasn’t I enough?"

"Oh Kade, my brave warrior," Rae said as he kissed his nose. "You’ve always been enough. I just needed to find myself and learn who I was beyond the borders of our pack. I’m sorry I made you feel that way."

"Rae, you’re enough, you’ve always been enough," Kade said as he peppered Rae’s face with kisses.

Romeo sighed and cleared his throat, drawing the pair’s attention to him.

"In case you’ve forgotten, my mate, your luna is still missing," Romeo told them. "As happy as I am that you’ve reunited, I need to find her, we need to save her."

Rae nodded as she pulled away from Kade but held his hand, pulling him with her.

"I’ve put all of my resources into finding Helena," Victor said. "We have both the Sunfire Packs and our allies nearby searching for her. It’s just not your packs that have come to love her but ours as well."

Romeo gave him a nod of thanks.

"But before we can unleash you to the world in search of her, you have to understand, Rome, there is more at stake now," Rae said.

"More at stake?" Romeo asked, tilting his head to the side.

"There is someone upstairs that you have to meet," Rae continued. "As a matter of fact, he’s one of the reasons Helena left our pack and honestly we only got here in time to meet him."

Romeo let out a growl.

Was it Alphonse?

Did she really come to Sunfire to be with that wolf despite having found her mate?

To Romeo’s surprise, Rae begins to laugh.

Both he and Kade gave her a confused look while Daniel sighed and shook his head.

"You’re torturing him," Daniel scolded Rae.

"I had to," Rae shrugged before she let go of Kade’s hand and cupped her brother’s face. "When Helena left, she was pregnant. The reason I was at the hospital with Victor in those photos was because we had to rush her to the hospital to give birth. Rome, you have a son."

"I have a son?" Romeo asked as he felt the world disappear around him.

"Do you want to meet him?" Rae asked.

Romeo was at a loss for words, all he could do was nod.

"I won’t damage her, I swore an oath," the woman huffed. "Tell that pup to trust me and our oath."

The man scoffed at her words but didn’t make a move to leave.

"I just walked in here with your hand raised, I know you want to hit her," the man said.

"Won’t be enough to damage her," the woman answered.

"I won’t risk it, Falon," a very familiar voice said as another person joined them. "I can smell your anger."

Helena wanted to look up, she wanted to confirm with her own eyes that the voice she was hearing belonged to someone she’d trusted with so much over the years.

"I think you like her," Falon, the witch, said mockingly. "I’ve seen the way you look at her. I know you want her for yourself. Did you know there’s an ancient spell that could dull the mate bond? I could cast it for you, Alpha. I could make sure that you could have her for yourself. Imagine those pretty pouty lips wrapped around your—"

"Don’t you dare finish that statement!" the man growled.

Helena couldn’t believe her ears.

The man that the voice belonged to wasn’t an Alpha. She’d known him for so long, he’d never mentioned anything about being an Alpha to a pack, also she would have sensed it.

"We both know what you have planned after this," Falon hissed. "After you kill her mate."

"That’s none of your business," the man growled.

"Oh, but it is Alpha," Falon said, her tone dripping with poison. "She needs to die. The Grand Warlock’s line needs to end with her."

Helena’s heart stopped at the realization that he hadn’t told Falon that the last time he’d seen her she was pregnant, that the Grand Warlock’s line was not going to end with her.

"You’re testing my patience," he hissed at Falon.

"You need me just as much as I need you," Falon pointed out. "You want justice, I’m giving it to you, but give me what I want. Her fucking head on a silver platter."

"Out!" the man roared, this time Helena sensed a little Alpha aura laced with his voice.

It was weak, but there was no doubt he came from an Alpha lineage.

Helena wondered if Falon would retaliate, but to her surprise, she heard Falon’s grumbling as she left the room, slamming the door behind her.

The man sighed as he approached Helena. Helena couldn’t help but hold her breath as he inched near.

"Why did you have to be his Mate, Helena?" Alphonse’s familiar voice said as his scent reached her nose. "If I kill him will you become mine? By the Goddess I hope you do, cause that the only way to protect you from Falon."
