Is It Wrong To Love My StepBrother Alpha Mate? -

Chapter 111: Training with the Grand Warlock
"Have you seen these?" Kade groaned as he handed Romeo his phone from the front seat making Romeo groan.
He was starting to regret inviting Kade to ride with him, but as the hours passed all Kade would do was grumble about not being around Rae.
"What am I supposed to be looking at?" Romeo asked without even looking at the phone.
"You’re not even looking," Kade grumbled as he reached back and snatched his phone from Romeo. "It’s a photo of your sister with a baby."
Romeo suddenly shot up in his seat.
"A baby?" he asked Kade.
"Yeah," Kade said as he leaned back and pinched the space between his eyes. "She wasn’t pregnant when she left."
"She would have been," Romeo told Kade in an attempt to make his Gamma feel better. "It only takes once."
"And I’d know if I had a child," Kade growled. "I should have felt a connection to the child when I saw the photo, but there was none."
"Maybe it was someone else’s," Romeo told his friend.
"Impossible, the child looked just like you Blackmoons," Kade said in a defeated tone.
"A lot of people look like us," Romeo said.
"Trust me, this child could be yours," Kade said as he tossed his phone to the side.
Romeo let out a sigh as he looked out his window.
"I’m sure Rae has an explanation," Romeo said. He wasn’t sure if he was telling Kade or himself.
"I’m sure," Kade grumbled.
"My sister wouldn’t cheat on her mate," Romeo said, practically growling at the Gamma. "You would have felt it if she did."
Romeo knew that his words were partially for himself as well.
Despite being apart for months, Romeo knew Helena had remained faithful. Mates knew, mates felt it when the other one wasn’t.
"Have you felt a new member of the pack?" Kade asked Romeo.
"Yes," Romeo admitted. "But I don’t think it was Rae’s child. The energy coming from it was too powerful, or maybe it could have been since it’s the child of a Gamma and an Alpha’s daughter."
"It told you, Romeo, I’m certain it’s not mine," Kade grumbled.
Romeo decided not to push the issue.
If the child wasn’t Kade’s and Rae’s then it had to be from one of his Betas.
When he first felt that blip of power a few weeks ago, he asked Neil if he had a secret child somewhere and Neil laughed at him.
He knew Daniel was mated, but the young man hadn’t mentioned his wife being pregnant, then again Romeo had never asked. So it was still a possibility that the newest member of their pack belonged to Daniel.
As for the child, it could have been one of the Sunfire Alphas’s. Rae could have been taking care of the child for one of them or for one of their new friends’s.
They had a few more hours to drive till they reached Sunfire City. They’d arrive a little after the ball started and Romeo hoped that Helena would be there.
Taking the opportunity to rest, Romeo quickly fell asleep and only woke when they arrived in the city.
It was already dark out and the Blood Moon had already risen.
The warrior that was driving them informed the guards at the gate of who they were and they were let in without any issue.
"At least the Sunfire Alpha’s are agreeing to that part of the treaty," Kade said from the front seat as they drove through the gates and past the wall that protects the city from would-be invaders.
"Let’s go straight to the packhouse," Romeo informed the warrior who simply grunted in response.
Romeo watched as they passed towering skyscrapers and people rushing on the sidewalks to get to their destinations.
Romeo had been here a few times over the years, both when he was young and later on when he was training to be Alpha.
He’d gone to Alpha Training with one of the Sunfire Alphas and was shocked to hear that the other had chosen the Warrior Academy instead. Very few Alpha’s chose that route since it lacked some of the lessons they would need as Alpha to a pack.
"This place is amazing!" Kade gasped as they passed through the streets.
"Never been?" the warrior driving them teased.
He was a transplant from Sunfire city, one of those who’d moved after Helena negotiated a treaty between the two packs.
"No," Kade admitted. "Why can’t Blackmoon or Stonehill be like this?"
"I’m sure Helena has her plans," Romeo said as he thought of his mate, the same mate that he would be seeing soon.
"The Luna is a visionary," the warrior said. "I worked with her on the treaty and she’s quite the visionary, and through all that, all she would mention was how the packs would grow with you at the helm."
Romeo smiled at the thought of Helena talking about him to people he didn’t know.
"She truly is amazing," Romeo whispered to himself as they pulled up in front of the Sunfire Packhouse.
"You ready?" Kade asked as they watched people streaming in and out.
Some were couples who clearly just found each other, while some seemed to have been mated already, probably just enjoying the night out.
The Blood Moon Ball wasn’t just for the unmated, it was a chance for everyone to enjoy as well.
"Let’s go get our mates," Romeo announced as he opened his door.
They climbed the stairs and entered through the twenty-foot doors of the pack house, passing wolved who bowed to greet him.
"Would you like to be announced?" Kade asked as they reached the formal entrance to the ballroom where the main gathering was happening.
Romeo shook his head.
"I don’t want to give her the chance to run," he said with a grin as they silently entered the ballroom.
Romeo scanned the room, searching it for his mate and that’s when it landed on her and he felt his heart drop.
She was on the dancefloor with another man and he was holding her tight as if he was afraid to lose her.
Romeo felt like he was drowning while he watched the love of his life, his mate, dance with an unknown man.
He couldn’t quite tell who she was dancing with, but they were close to each other, too close to be just friends.
Helena’s head rested on the man’s shoulder as they swayed to the music.
Romeo balled his hands into fists and he didn’t know whether he should leave or charge onto the dance floor and take his mate.
"Did you see the warlocks?" Romeo heard a she-wolf purr. "Apparently Witches and Warlocks normally don’t have mates, they only have one if a wolf scents them as their mate."
’Witches? Warlocks?’ Romeo asked Ryder.
’They don’t have scents, remember?’ Ryder answered back.
Romeo lifted his nose to the air and began to sniff.
He could smell the scents mingling as well as an absence of it. For some reason, it smelled like there were a lot less people in the room.
"Alpha Romeo," one of the Sunfire Alphas greeted, waving as he approached Romeo. "We were expecting you."
"You were?" Romeo asked, practically growling.
"Quite a Blood Moon Ball, huh?" the Alpha asked.
Romeo nodded and grunted in reply.
"Right, you probably don’t know me," the Alpha chuckled. "I’m a friend of Helena’s and Alpha to the Firelake pack, the name’s Caleb."
The Alpha, Caleb Firelake, offered his hand to shake.
Romeo begrudgingly took it but quickly pulled away.
"The witches and warlocks?" Romeo asked.
"Ah yes, our latest addition to the guest list!" Caleb said proudly. "It’s quite interesting to watch them interact with everyone. They don’t have mates and they don’t know if anyone is mated unless you expressly tell them."
"Oh?" Romeo asked.
"Alpha Caleb, you’re needed," someone called.
"If you’ll excuse me, Alpha Romeo," Caleb said as he left Romeo alone to the mercy of the crowds.
A woman with long dark hair in a dress that barely left anything to the imagination approached Romeo. He backed up a little, but she wouldn’t relent.
"Hey there handsome," she purred as she ran a finger on his chest. "They tell me you’re an Alpha, a very powerful Alpha."
As she batted her eyes at Romeo he felt like he needed to puke.
Having another woman’s hands on him felt dirty.
She smelled the air around them and he got nothing.
’A witch,’ Ryder told him.
Romeo was about to push the Witch away when he noticed Helena’s eyes meet his. He watched as the call expression on her face turned furious.
He tried to push the witch away, but she grabbed his shirt and wrapped an arm around his neck.
"Get off me," Romeo growled.
"But Alpha," the witch purred. "I’m looking for a good night. Do you want to give me a good night?" d e
