Chapter 46: A Shift In Power, One Replaces the Other!
The council chamber loomed with sterile modernity, its towering glass walls shrouded by metallic blinds that sliced the sunlight into narrow beams. At the room’s heart stood a circular table, its crimson surface worn and etched with fading symbols of unity.
"See? It’s been thirty years, your ideals have long been outdated," many sat at a round table. A man, who seemed to be in his late thirties, his wrinkles now coming to age and his black hair combed over the spots of his shame.
Many guards lined the pristine walls, their gazes often drifting to the closed blinds that covered the overarching window on one side of the room. Dominating the far wall was a holographic screen, glitching as it replayed Takashi’s fight
"They could never stand up to the anomalies of the current times, I’m afraid," he spat, waving his arm dismissively. On the other end sat an old man, his gaze stern over furrowed gray bushy brows. His long hair was done in a rat tail behind him.
"I’m sorry, Vorian, but your time has all but passed in this government." The balding man turned to the others that surrounded the table, watching them nod in agreement. "Your reign over this universe is over, we’ll take over from here."
"What you’re doing isn’t right!" Vorian lectured, his voice booming across the room as he spoke. "You think you can get away with this, Vaeil..."
Vaeil laughed a boisterous roar, tears pricking the corners of his eyes, his head back, the sun from the window causing the bald spot on his head to shine. He wiped his gaze when he finally calmed, a soft chuckle still lingering past his lips as he took on a more serious gaze.
"My rise to power was legitimate and planned," Vaeil muttered, his gaze narrowing as Vorian continued to oppose him. "There’s nothing for you here."
There was a moment of silence that devoured the room as they stared at each other, no words shared across the table before Vorian’s chair screeched against the floor. The man finally got to his feet, his hand on the edge of the chair as he turned to leave.
"Very well," he muttered, his eyes turning back to Vaeil, who stared at him intently, watching as he made his leave. "I hope you’re prepared."
"For whatever storms may cross you..."
With that, he left, closing the door behind him with a loud thud. Everyone remained silent in the room, a feeling of uncertainty hanging over each of them.
"Sir... you don’t think—" One of them rose to speak, but his voice hung, watching as Vaeil did nothing but laugh to himself, shaking his head lightly as his hand rested against his face.
"I’m not worried, that old fool can’t do anything," he argued, his voice laced with mockery. "A man without conviction is no threat to me."
He got up from his chair, stepping close as his hands wandered to the blinds, moving them aside to get a glimpse of the outside, his eyes trailing Vorian as he left, filled with disdain but a mix of amusement. "Let him bring whomever he pleases."

"Easy... Easy—" Belk muttered, watching as Vagnis slowly turned the metal pipe, his hands carefully molding molten glass as it came out of the ironmill. He watched as the molten glass moved like butter, sloshing around his tool.
"Now!" The scientist roared, watching as Vagnis blew into the metal pipe carefully. Sylvi and Belk watched in awe as the glass expanded and contracted, watching intently as if to bore through the very glass itself.
Vagnis struggled to keep a steady breath, his hands tightening more and more around the pipe as if to keep it steady, his face beet red, eyes closed in focus.
"Yes! Hold it! Right there!" Belk snapped, causing the boy to flinch a little, making it move slightly. Sylvi ran off to get another rod, while Belk stood there and admired it, his grin plastered on his face as always.
"Glass blowing, huh? This isn’t so bad," he chuckled, crouching just to get as close a look as possible at the glowing orb. "Good thing Celi felt bad for us, or we would’ve been struggling to shape glass for a millennia!"
"How does a wolf even know how to shape glass?" Sylvi asked, walking back with another metal pipe stuffed between her arms, leaving them free to hold a small cup of water and the other holding makeshift tweezers and a file.
"Glass," Belk corrected, taking the rod from the child, Sylvi watching as he stood up, stretching a small piece of the glass with his metal pipe. "Also, I have no idea. Maybe Astra taught her."
He fell into a cold sweat as he continued the delicate procedure, one of his hands outstretched to grab the file from Sylvi. "Besides, I heard her talking about humans taming wild beasts anyway. Maybe it’s a special ability of their race or something."
Vagnis gasped for air finally, his face drenched with effort and sheen. "Yeah, they have been rather tame since she came," his words were filled with pauses, the poor scout gasping for air. His gaze dropped to the Neo wolves that hung around the other Alevarians, carrying on their daily lives without an ounce of hostility.
"Well, we should be thankful. We don’t have to hide up in the trees when out here anymore," Belk grunted as he scored the metal pipe within his grasp, making sure it was filed down enough to make a clean cut.
"Sylvi, water," he commanded softly. Sylvi nodded and let the water run where his pole and the molten glass connected, allowing the glass to contract. Belk swiftly severed it with the file, separating the pipe from the newly made opening, forming the mouth of the creation they were crafting.
"But what about this new threat though?" Vagnis asked, rather concerned for what lay beyond that dense forest, the calmness of the sky and the soft songs of the birds beyond that point oddly taunting.
"This is what this is for," Belk explained, taking the tweezers from Sylvi’s hand, molding the tube of the glass, making it even longer and more refined.
"With this, we can get into alchemy," he smirked, the mere idea of a newly found science exciting him to his very core.
"Alchemy?" Both Vagnis and Sylvi pondered, their gazes meeting in mutual confusion.
"Yeah, Celi told me about it," Belk explained. "Apparently, it’s the foundation of most things nowadays, of chemistry itself!"
"Yeah, the art of transformation, the study of turning metal to gold!" He could feel the fire resurfacing within him at those very words, ready to burst through this task and get to the next. His gaze was intense with focus and curiosity. "Just the mere thought of it..."
"It just gets me excited every time!"
