Chapter 44: New Ally?

"Everyone evacuate, immediately!" Takashi demanded, his mech booting up once more in the swirl of the chaos, his grip tightening around the controls. Everyone ran away, pushing past whatever got in their way. Their cries filled the air with panic as the creature continued to tower over them.

"Elliot! Are you alright?!" Fiona rushed over to her friend’s aid, the hatch opening to show the unconscious boy in his chair, his breathing was stable, crimson running down his temple just shy of his lips. "Shit..."

The hum of Fiona’s thrusters stretched across the field, the mech launching towards the creature, her mechanic arm outstretched before the titan as she started to rapid fire, the swift bullets of blue light bouncing off the creature’s body, leaving nothing but smoke in its wake without a scratch on it.

"Takashi! We have a situation!" Fiona shouted over his HUD, temporarily blocking his vision to the threat before him, its arm swatting his mech back to the ground, its metal scratched as it went through multiple buildings, smoke and debris shooting up to the sky.

"Just take him and go!" Takashi grunted, his mechanic arm gripping the shattered concrete as hard as he could for leverage. Fiona gritted her teeth, her eyes snapping back to the unconscious boy that remained by her side.

Without wasting a second thought, she dragged the boy out somewhere safe in the open. Resting his back against a flat slab of a building, his head slightly tilted as he continued his slumber.

"Hold on for me..." She muttered, running back to his mech and turning on the system.

Takashi’s mech could hardly stand, its joints sparking a concerning amount, his limbs spasming at the slightest input.

"Damn it–" he cussed to himself, his eyes snapping at the giant Vaeltheir that made its way to him, each step shaking the earth he stood upon. His mind was reeling for solutions, his grip tightening to the point of drawing blood from his own fingers.

Swiftly he grabbed the gun on his holster, his heel kicking the hatch open with as much force as he could, the metal flying off. The suit around him started to tighten, a shock running up the man’s spine, causing him to stumble forward, his breathing heavy as he aimed his gun at the creature, firing as much as possible, though his efforts remained in vain.

"Takashi what’re you doing!?" Fiona cried from the intercom as she saw him standing before the beast as it got closer and closer.

Takashi didn’t respond, his arms were shaking, trying to keep as still as he could as he continued to fire, drawing the creature more and more his way.

Fiona’s thrusters hum loudly, the mech launching towards her partner, but in the moment he heard nothing, his eyes fixated on the Vaeltheir, even as its foot hovered above him, blocking out the sun.

His gun drew blank, sweat dripping from his brow from his efforts. He stared down at his gun, his eyes widened in horror. The man falling to his knees in defeat, his head now to the sky, staring at the Vaeltheir’s foot as it came down, the winds rushing up its sole as if trying to get out of the way.

"TAKASHI!!!" Fiona cried, the mech inches away before a huge collision echoed throughout the battlefield, the sudden gush of wind pushing even the mech back. Fiona shot back, stumbling into the ground.

Her head slammed against the control desk during the tussle, blood trickling down her forehead as it finally came to a halt. She could hear the strain of the mech ringing in her ear, no matter how hard she tried to move it just couldn’t.

"Not again, not again, not again, not again!" She cried, her hands balled into fists, hitting the controls as hard as she could. Through narrowed eyes her tears fell, holding back choked gasps as the dust began to settle.

"Takashi..." Her bloodied scalp rested against the shattered controls as she continued to whimper, already accepting her fate, only waiting for the beast to turn its attention to her.

The titan groaned in pain, its voice stretching across the area. Fiona’s head snapped up to see what’s going on, the smoke finally cleared to see a guy with a katana on his back, kneeling in front of Takashi under the leg of the titan. Its foot long severed from its leg as the blood dripped over both of them.

"You ok there, little guy?" A man snarked, his hand reaching to brush the drops of blood from his brown hair, his condescending grey gaze looking down on the man he had saved.

"What are you doing here, you shouldn’t be—" Takashi could hardly finish his sentence as the man stood up fully, completely ignoring his warning, the Vaelthier stepping back as it continued to groan in agony—now even fear.

"Spare me–" He muttered, turning back to the titan behind him.

"We thought we’d cut you some slack, since you’re waking up from the blip and all—" He huffed, turning the tip of his blade on his shoulder. Everyone watched on as the sun hit the tip of the blade, shimmering light through the beast’s thick blood.

"But I think we’ve waited long enough—It’s clear that the old IP Police force, is no longer needed," Takashi’s eyes widened as he got a good look at the man’s uniform; his suit was similar to his, though different—pentagon platings lined every inch and fiber, a supporting spine on his back that made his silhouette almost beastly. "Why don’t you go crawl back to the void, or wherever you three crawled out of?"

Without saying another word, the man walked ahead, each step echoing through the silence until he stood before the creature.

"Before you try to attack me, you should know," The man stared up at the creature with hollow dead eyes—eyes that bore no intrigue or interest. "I’m really strong, so you might as well surrender here."

The creature cried in defiance, swinging its arm as hard as it could to crush the man under its weight, the arm pushing against the wind’s resistance, causing gusts upon gusts of wind to fly around wildly, thrashing through the target’s bangs as he glared directly at its arm.

"Well, that’s the path you chose," He muttered to himself, pointing the sword to the floor as it got closer and closer. As it remained inches away, he turned his blade upon its side, then...

Darkness.
