Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix -
Chapter 1325 - 1325: Never simple
Rain quickly turned to focus on the enemy once again, but soon, he felt the ground trembling, and he raised his guard by jumping away. While he was in the air, the enemy fired another beam of blood toward Rain. He blocked it with the ominous sword and was pushed away in the air…
Before long, Rain saw something clustering on the sword… it was a cluster in the shape of a beehive… it was a junction of countless bacteria. At the same time, those things began to eat away the corrupt energy and the mana on the ominous sword… not for long. Elisabetha made her anger burn the ominous energy and miasma and turned the bacteria into dust.
"Insect… you think that you can eat my power?" Elisabetha asked. "Rain, change to the dragon slayer path. I will devour all of these things's attacks. I will make this fucking bitch regret picking a fight with us and destroying my homeplanet and all of the life in it."
Rain didn't hesitate in doing that… even though he was going to pay the price for it by losing a bunch of levels on random skills. Still, it couldn't be helped, and he didn't have time to worry about those minor issues. As soon as Rain equipped that path and its skills, he felt his body getting lighter and the flames of the sword beginning to vibrate more powerfully than before.
Before long, Arel stopped firing that had been at Rain and then looked at the sword with the weird eyes of a fly. She looked pretty curious, and Rain wondered how come they missed Elisabetha when she had that power even before she became a weapon… come to think of it, Rain and the others never found any signs of the first dragons that destroyed Earth until now.
"... Her behavior is very different from the other first dragons," Rain thought. "Considering what she said. The dragon god was able to defeat her… or perhaps, the original creature, and she just borrowed this body to show her power."
The implications of Arel's ability to assume control over the body of a first dragon left Rain in a state of profound confusion.
The adaptability showcased by her species suggested a formidable level of versatility, allowing them to seamlessly integrate into new hosts with alarming efficiency, and it didn't seem like possession of ordinary types of parasite… This revelation prompted Rain to ponder the massive array of potential bodies at their disposal, particularly considering the formidable nature of first dragons.
The unsettling reality dawned upon Rain as he contemplated the challenges that lay ahead. If the adversaries could change bodies with such ease, leveraging the powerful forms of first dragons, their arsenal of potential threats would expand exponentially.
He found himself grappling not only with the immediate dangers presented by Arel but also with the daunting task of deciphering the true extent of their enemies' resources, motives, and the broader scope of their capabilities… there was also a high chance that destroying that body wouldn't kill her at all.
Before Rain could keep analyzing the enemy, Arel began to fly from one side to the other like a real fly. That seemed like a weird movement, but it was an obvious distraction… the bacteria that had hit the ground emerged from the whole and began to move toward Rain insanely fast…
When Rain moved the ominous sword to decimate the monster, Arel moved as well… she began to fire the red beam in all directions. While Rain cut the first worm in half, Rain also saw Arel closing the area with her attacks… before long, the bacteria began to propagate and then close the area around the crater… it turned into a real cage.
The interior was completely red since a small amount of light could pass through the blockade…
At the same time, Rain noticed the wall of bacteria slowly closing in and also eating the vestiges of mana in the air. Although she was supposed to be much stronger, Arel wasn't someone who would underestimate her enemies… her actions were almost like…
"If the walls close in too much, we will be attacked from all directions," Elisabetha said. "Nothing says that the enemy can't just control them all to swarm us all of a sudden."
That was probably what Arel was targeting… that and forcing Rain to get in her range in a hurry in order to force him to make mistakes. Still, even if that was the case, that didn't stop Rain from charging in.
Arel fired another barrage of dark bullets toward Rain, and while he tried to dodge them as much as possible, he still was forced to block some with the sword, and the weapon became even heavier…
Before long, Rain began to spin horizontally like the ominous sword was too heavy for him… in the end, he threw it toward Arel. The rain of dark bullets stopped, and she prepared to grab the weapon; she was very interested in it after all…
The weapon flew while spinning like a shuriken, but when Arel tried to grab it, she suddenly felt the danger and then raised her guard… she summoned a wall of dark energy to protect her head, and then the sound of a powerful rain echoed at the top of her head…
In a calculated response to Arel's defensiveness, Rain deftly applied his telekinetic abilities to increase the ominous sword's spinning motion. Arel, taken aback by the sudden surge in speed, attempted to seize the weapon but was met with an unpleasant consequence. The heightened velocity caused the weapon to slip out of her grasp, resulting in the loss of half of her arms.
Despite the temporary setback, Rain demonstrated both adaptability and strategic acumen as he promptly summoned the weapon back into his control, capitalizing on the situation to regain the upper hand in the ongoing confrontation.
Not for long, though… things are never simple or easy against that kind of enemy.
