Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix
Chapter 1237 - 1237: Base

Before Rain could understand anything else, the time to attack the demons had come. Everyone was ready for the fight, even though only two days had passed since the previous one. Half of Rain's golems began to march in that direction, and the other stayed behind.

Their massive forms were partially obscured by an assortment of mismatched metallic parts that covered their bodies. Each golem seemed like a patchwork creation, with limbs and appendages not originally designed for their sturdy frames. Some wore robot arms as makeshift shields, while others had sections of robotic torsos serving as impromptu armor.

The metallic pieces, salvaged from the defeated enemy robots, were not perfectly aligned with the earth golems' natural structure, creating a peculiar and haphazard appearance. Gears and gadgets jutted out at odd angles, and wires dangled like improvised accessories. Despite the chaotic assembly, the golems moved with a purpose, their determination evident in the resolute march toward the east.

As they advanced, the clattering of metal against the hardened earth echoed through the air. The mismatched parts rattled with each step, creating a symphony of metallic sounds that showed the golems' formidable presence. The once-discarded remnants of the enemy's technology might have found a new purpose as protective layers for Rain's earthbound allies.

"When are they going to reach the enemy's territory?" Terra asked.

"In half an hour," Rain declared. "They shouldn't last more than five minutes, so it is better if you guys arrive before they are annihilated. We will follow afterward to attack the demon king."

Both groups would only have a couple of minutes to get in action, so Rain wasn't going to have much time to talk with Seadrei. He was more serious than ever, so it was impossible to expect that he would reveal anything. At that point in time, Rain considered using Psychometry, but the skill at low levels could only reveal so much. It seemed like a tool that eventually would work on the cores, though.

In any case, the group waited in silence and prepared mentally for the confrontation. Despite that, time passed rather fast, and soon, the others moved before Rain and Seadrei. They nodded one time and then dashed toward the enemy's base.

"Hmm, they are doing better than I had expected," Rain thought.

"Rain… I am not going to say anything else or critisize you, I know that you are working to the bone as usual," Seadrei suddenly said. "However, you should pay more attention to the small details. You said once to me that what can happen will happen. Let's go."

"Hah?" Rain said. "What are you..."

Rain's brow furrowed in utter confusion as Seadrei's sudden statement seemed like a cascade of meaningless phrases. It felt like a bunch of words strung together without a clear connection, leaving Rain utterly perplexed. Seadrei had a tendency to be enigmatic at times, but this felt different. Had the relentless battles and the chaos of their situation finally taken a toll on Seadrei's mind?

Despite his confusion, Rain realized there was no time for deciphering Seadrei's words. The urgency of the impending battle pressed upon them, and Rain couldn't afford to dwell on the apparent randomness of Seadrei's message. The veteran sea folk warrior's abruptness left Rain wondering if he had lost the plot due to the relentless craziness of their circumstances.

Yet, there was no luxury of time for contemplation.

Rain activated his domain and then used the sloth path once more to hide the traces of their presence and magic. Even Seadrei looked bothered by that sudden feeling of sluggishness, but he didn't say anything, and they just flew.

Before long, they saw red explosions of energy and saw the golems and their allies fighting the demons. Just like planned, Sealyn was creating a massive vortex of water around the group and the others were using their mana to change the properties of the massive amount of water. Their humility path was equipped and soon they confirmed the effects of it…

The demons swam through the water vortex and eventually reached the group, but as soon as they charged to attack them, Terra smashed their bodies with punches. Sealyn used lightning magic to toast the demons alive.

Despite the damage they had suffered, the demons soon got up while laughing viciously… but soon they fell on the ground again when the pain wasn't going away, and their wounds weren't healing as fast as they had imagined… before long, the others finished off the demons while Terra and Seara weakened them.

What happened was simple, they combined water magic with the humility path, and the result of it was a large-scale debuff spell that almost cancelled the power of their best weapon, which was their insane regenerative abilities. They had several hearts, after all.

Rain and Seadrei pressed forward, their eyes scanning the horizon for the presence of the enemy's base. They anticipated a sight befitting the demonic nature of their foes – perhaps a sinister, rough-hewn stone city with an aura of chaotic malevolence. However, reality struck them with surprise.

Before they stood, not the foreboding cityscape they had envisioned but a mountainous structure made of a colossal, dark stone. Its surface showed an imposing, rugged texture, giving it an ancient and ominous appearance. The mountain, devoid of any architectural design, seemed like a natural formation hewn from the very essence of malevolence.

Numerous cave-like entrances riddled the sides of the stone mountain, resembling ominous mouths gaping wide. Rain's heightened senses allowed him to detect a surge of mana emanating from within the dark caverns, indicating a concentration of large magical energy.

The unexpected structure posed a challenge, as attacking the base head-on would be difficult due to the sheer volume of mana protecting it. That was definitely on purpose, and Rain wondered the reason for it.
