Chapter 66: 56 sleeping together with the future king and queen

Seeing Le Cheng perform such a grand gesture, the stalwart Imperial Forbidden Army Commander Gawain reeled back in shock, his body jolting backward as if facing a great enemy. He stared at Le Cheng with both horror and confusion, utterly perplexed by what he had said to trigger such an epiphany. Could it be that he had unwittingly uttered some profound philosophical wisdom?

Moreover, how did he know I have an adorable seven-year-old daughter who is neither married nor betrothed?

Gawain stiffly turned his head and his inquiring gaze landed on Caster.

"Caster, this is..."

"Uncle Gawain, his name is Le Cheng, he is a friend of mine."

"Friend?" Gawain paused, "I wasn’t aware you had such a friend?"

Originally, Caster was just a young lodger in Arthur Territory, who, with his decent skills and somewhat clever mind, had come under the employ of a noble family as a squire. If he had been sharper, and had won the old lord’s favor, he might have even become a true Knight, experiencing the most glorious moment of his life.

This was the peak most commoners could reach.

However, when the Catastrophe Messenger brought a token from the Emperor and identified Caster’s royal bloodline, his fate underwent a drastic transformation.

Out of duty, Gawain had to bring Caster back to the Imperial Capital to participate in the King Selection Ceremony. Still, he knew this change might not be fortunate for Caster and could even bring misfortune. Thus, though he did not overtly dote on Caster, he always kept an eye out, ensuring that no mishap befell this potential king selector.

And monitoring Caster’s associations was equally critical, as friends from unknown origins were highly suspicious.

"I..." Caster, mouth agape, struggled to respond. He knew if his answer didn’t satisfy Gawain, Le Cheng would end up in an awkward position. Despite their brief interaction, he felt a genuine friendship with Le Cheng.

That sense of closeness and trust, even he couldn’t comprehend why it felt so natural.

Just as Caster was at a loss, Le Cheng spoke up first, "From the day I was born, I’ve been Caster’s one true friend, and we even used to fish naked in the river together. Do you think I’d randomly tell this to anyone else? But since you are my father-in-law, I’ll grudgingly share this just for you."

"Who’s your father-in-law!"

Gawain couldn’t stand this title, glaring fiercely, then turned back to Caster.

"Yes, yes, I’ve known Le Cheng since we were children, and he had to leave Arthur Territory because of some reasons. I never expected we would be on the same train and reunite like this... right, Guinevere?"

Caster quickly nodded, and after finishing speaking, he turned to Guinevere for confirmation, avoiding Gawain’s eyes, feeling guilty for deceiving the upright knight who had taken good care of him.

"Yes, absolutely, we used to be so close that we even slept together..." Guinevere, the mastermind behind deceiving the whole world, had no trouble misleading Gawain with just her words, effortlessly spinning stories of their past adventures, feigning sincerity so well that no one could see through her lies.

Even Gawain, capable as he was, couldn’t see through a woman who lied with such conviction, and he took her words as truth.

Though still not entirely sure of Le Cheng’s harmlessness, the reunion of childhood friends warranted no obstruction from Gawain. After all, the world being so vast, and life so fragile, one must cherish the present as future meetings are uncertain.

Thus, Gawain nodded, initially having brought sweet potatoes for them, but after asking Caster and learning that Le Cheng had already fed them, he pretended as if nothing happened, gave a few words of advice, and left.

As the room door closed again, Le Cheng stretched lazily.

"Well, now that we’ve eaten our fill and Gawain has left, let’s go to sleep early... Wait, why is there only one bed? But, three people can squeeze in; it should still be manageable."

Both were oblivious to the issue, but upon hearing those last words, their expressions changed, Guinevere incredulously staring at Le Cheng, "Wait, you’re not planning to sleep with us, are you?"

"What are you saying?" Le Cheng rolled his eyes at her, "You ate my food and drank my drinks, and now that you’re full, you want to kick me out to sleep in the icy wilderness outside—is that reasonable? Is that what people do? Have you no conscience?"

"But don’t you have your own room? I never asked you to sleep in the icy wilderness."

"My shabby place isn’t only crowded but also drafty, while here, it’s warm and comfortable, plus there are two adorable warmers. If it were you, which would you choose?"

Le Cheng spoke so compellingly that Guinevere was left speechless.

Then, Le Cheng added, "How about this, since Guinevere is a girl, let’s accommodate her and let her sleep on the innermost side, the good brother on the outside, and I’ll sleep in the middle to protect you both."

Hearing this, Guinevere became outraged, hands on hips, and directly rebuked, "You, a grown man, have the audacity to make Caster sleep on the outside, have you no shame? If anyone’s going to sleep outside, it should be you!"

"Guinevere, you..."

"Uh..."

"Okay, if you say so, I’ll sleep outside."

Seeing Le Cheng looking like he had succeeded in his scheme, Guinevere opened her mouth wide, eyes staring, completely dumbfounded.

Le Cheng, however, was quite pleased with himself. Sure enough, just like Rand had said, when you want to open a window and everyone is against it, propose to tear the roof off, and they’ll agree to let you open the window.

Before either of them could react, Le Cheng had already pushed them onto the bed.

"Ah, are... are we really going to sleep together?"

"You already said so..."

"Don’t be shy, we used to sleep together when we were kids, and we can still do it now that we’re grown up, just like reliving childhood."

"I said that just to fool Uncle Gawain!"

"It doesn’t matter, I already believed it."

"..."

...

On the other side, Gawain returned to his residence and asked his accompanying knights for more details.

"Ah, indeed, that thing happened, that man even excitedly held Caster’s hand, said something that seemed very intimate, but I was too far away to hear clearly."

"What was Caster’s reaction?"

"She seemed pretty happy too... Oh, that man wanted to follow them, but Rand stopped him. Guinevere was waving her hand and warmly bidding him farewell, mentioning something about ’fish’ or the like..."

The knights didn’t remember the scene very clearly, but their overall recollection should be about right.

Gawain nodded; he was slowly understanding everything.

It seemed that man was not a problem.

He just needed to be a bit more cautious later on to ensure that Le Cheng was not a spy sent by another Prince.

Meanwhile, in the cottage.

If it were before today, neither Caster nor Guinevere would believe that they would end up sharing a bed with a man they had met less than a day ago. Yet, after the initial resistance, they surprisingly felt no discomfort.

Of course, it also helped that all three were clothed, which greatly reduced the awkwardness.

The only complaint was that the bed was too small.

"Ouch, don’t keep squeezing in, I’m almost being squashed into a pancake."

"But I don’t want to either, it’s Mr. Le Cheng... Mr. Le Cheng, there seems to be something... something poking me..."

"That’s just a normal physiological reaction, don’t mind it."

"Can you not place your hand... on my waist?"

"You have to get used to this as well since you’ll be a king in the future. It’s unavoidable to get injured on the battlefield, and you’ll inevitably have physical contact with your subordinates. So, if you get used to this kind of touch now, you won’t show weaknesses later on."

"I, I see... thanks for the lesson."

Le Cheng was actually not very comfortable since the bed was really small, but he soon realized that with both Caster and Guinevere being quite petite, he could just stretch out his arm and embrace both of them, which made things much more comfortable.

At first, Guinevere would slap his hand away, but after realizing it was futile, she gradually gave up.

Especially when sleepiness and a bit of cold hit her, she even voluntarily grabbed Le Cheng’s hand and covered her entire chest with it.

The warm and comfortable feeling quickly sent her into dreamland.
