Chapter 49: 39 I was here first... (Today’s catch-up reading is very important, please be sure to catch up on this Chapter, thank you!)
"With you?"
"Yep."
"Leave this place?"
"Yep."
"Why?"
"Because I can help you."
"Why would you want to help me?"
"Pretty girl, gothic style, twin ponytails, beautiful feet, fair skin, the bust has great potential, and those slender legs would look fantastic in black stockings. I like the color of your eyes, but most importantly, you’re not human. In short, I’m quite attracted to you. Do I need any other reasons?"
"..."
Elizabeth was rendered silent in an instant. From the moment she opened her eyes, her life had been either about killing or on her way to kill, but since her consciousness was born from the willpower of the soul, she wasn’t completely ignorant about matters between men and women. However, she had never considered that someone would entertain such thoughts about her. Could it be that her appearance was that attractive to men?
Elizabeth had never paid attention to her looks, as in her view, her sole purpose was to kill.
If Le Cheng wanted to help her out of some sense of justice or for another reason, she could at least understand that. However, his reason being such, and the matter-of-fact tone he used, left her unsure how to respond.
After a long silence, Elizabeth replied with a tone tinged with disdain.
"If you want me to leave with you, at least call me by my correct name first."
"Isn’t your name Crazy 3?"
"It’s Elizabeth!"
Elizabeth gritted her teeth as she pronounced her own name. She knew this guy was doing it on purpose, purposefully getting her name wrong... it was so aggravating.
She turned her head away angrily, deciding to ignore Le Cheng.
No matter what Le Cheng said to her, she acted as if she hadn’t heard him. When she said she’d ignore, she meant it!
Meanwhile, the ghosts were industriously at work. Although the water in the pool was deep, with many ghosts comes great strength. Thanks to their concerted efforts, the water in the pool was quickly drained, and after digging down more than twenty meters, one of the ghosts finally found the coffin Elizabeth had mentioned.
"Mr. Le Cheng..." Clara rushed over to relay this good news to them.
However, when Le Cheng approached and inspected the so-called coffin, his expression revealed a hint of strangeness.
"This is the coffin that leads to the Devil’s lair?"
Elizabeth nodded, "Yes, but I’m not sure if living people can pass through."
"I think it definitely won’t be a problem."
Le Cheng sighed. How could there be a problem? Although the coffin looked a bit ancient due to being buried for a long time, its color and shape were the exact same as the coffin he’d lain in within Infinite Paradise. The only difference was... it had no lid.
Why would a Black Coffin from Infinite Paradise appear in a place like this?
Was it moved here by a player?
No, Le Cheng quickly dismissed this thought. The Black Coffin in Infinite Paradise was akin to a game’s login pod, and even the most powerful player couldn’t possibly move an entire login pod. The only entities capable of such a feat... the Supreme Gods? Or Paradise itself?
At the end of the day, the existence of Infinite Paradise itself harbored certain secrets.
This much was evident from the deputy mission Gaia had entrusted to him. For deputies, the importance of clearing instances was actually secondary; what mattered most was to combat and eliminate the deputies of other deities, which was fundamentally different from ordinary players.
This reminded Le Cheng of a notorious term from the real world — proxy wars.
Two superpowers, each with enormous national strength, once mired in the quagmire of war, could likely drag both sides down and lead to irreparable consequences. Thus, these two countries would each find their own proxies to engage in a different form of competition on foreign lands, showcasing their power without escalating the scale of the war, and effectively wearing down the opponent. From any perspective, it was a profitable deal... as long as they could win.
Clearly, the eight gods on the sides of Order and Chaos were also waging a similar war.
And with his emergence, Gaia had joined the war among the gods, hence the need for him to strike and eliminate the deputies of the other gods.
When he became Gaia’s deputy, Le Cheng had already thought of this possibility, only he didn’t care. And now, seeing the Black Coffin appear in such a place, perhaps... the war between gods had gradually spread to this world.
Oh, Omecilloi!
Seeing Le Cheng staring blankly at the coffin, Elizabeth thought he was stunned by the advanced technology before him, and said, "Actually, I had the same expression as you did when I first saw it. I couldn’t understand the principle behind it at all. After all, entering another space through a coffin is just so unscientific. But don’t worry, its safety is quite high, at least I’ve never had a problem with it before."
"Sis, stop talking," Le Cheng said, speechless, as he patted her shoulder.
This girl is actually discussing science with me?
As if your existence is scientific!
Afterward, they both looked at the coffin, pondering how to use it. The coffin was more than spacious enough for one person, but it was a bit of a stretch for two unless they stacked up like Arhat or...
"You on top or me on top?"
"I refuse!"
Elizabeth immediately refused the Arhat stacking method. Whether she was on top or bottom, it felt wrong.
Le Cheng didn’t insist and nodded with a smile, "Alright, then let’s lie on our sides. I’ll go in first."
Having said that, Le Cheng directly jumped into the coffin, pressing his back against the side of the coffin, his right hand cushioning below, and waved to Elizabeth with his left hand, "Crazy 3, you can come down now; there’s quite a bit of space here."
"...It’s Elizabeth!"
The girl stubbornly insisted on her real name and then jumped in after him. However, as soon as she lay down in the coffin, she felt something was off. Although she had felt it was spacious when she used it alone before, now it seemed very cramped, especially facing Le Cheng’s face. It made her feel irritable and unable to calm down.
Elizabeth didn’t know why she felt this way; perhaps because she had just freed herself from the control of the brain monster, her soul hadn’t fully recovered, leaving her quite weak.
In order to prevent that irritable mood from affecting her, Elizabeth quickly turned over, turning her back to Le Cheng.
Indeed, once she stopped seeing that face, she felt much better.
But then, a cheeky voice came to her ears, "Are you sure you want to turn your back on me? It’s quite dangerous to do so."
Hm?!
Elizabeth instantly became alert. Indeed, as a warrior, it was a taboo to turn your back on the enemy, yet she easily did so. Could it be... in her subconscious, she trusted this guy to this extent?
No, I don’t fully trust him yet!
With that thought, Elizabeth quickly turned back around.
"Right, this is much more convenient," said Le Cheng, whose hand had been cushioning below him, as it naturally wrapped around the girl’s shoulder while his other hand rested on her slender waist.
Elizabeth instinctively frowned, but in such cramped quarters, some physical contact was inevitable, so she didn’t resist too strongly but reprimanded, "Shut up!"
After speaking, the girl immediately closed her eyes.
She felt that as long as she didn’t look at Le Cheng’s face, that irritable feeling seemed not to emerge.
Meanwhile, outside the Black Coffin, Clara watched their intimate behavior, clutching her hands tightly, suddenly feeling a pang of jealousy. I was here first...
