Chapter 213: Middle Of Day 2 (2)

* * Julius POV * *

- - Going back to the emergence of the Ambushing Legions - -

The battle was hard fought, thousands of men continued to push against one another trying to breech the heavy shield walls, or even just hit the men behind it with their long spears.

The Greecians were dying by the hundreds every few minutes thanks to the tactics being used by Julius and the Spartan high command, however as the battle wore on the fact that the Greecians had far larger numbers meant even if their forces fell in battle fresher troops could just step over the bodies of their brothers and take their place, exhaustion was clearing beginning to set in on the Spartans and the casualties began to mount as trying to endlessly hold up the heavy iron shields and spears took a serious toll on your arms, all the while your squatting down in a braced position to push or be pushed without falling over.

Julius’s praetorians were fare better however due to their limited numbers they still faced the same problems.

Using the hoplite tactics mixed with their Legionnaire training they circled back to allow the men to rest, but with only 1,000 men and the sheer size of the enemy against them, the stretched lines meant that even with this strategy the men would only get a few moments to catch their breath before they’d once again find themselves back on the front line.

Julius himself participated at the front for 30 minute spurts himself, only doing so when his perk blade was available and his safety almost all but guaranteed however once the skill went into cool down he’d join the men in filtering back and instead once more taking up his position as the commander to watch over the battle.

His signal to the commanders of his other forces had been given a while ago now but from their position on the field it was impossible to know whether the ambush attack had begun.

As this battlefield was flat land, Julius has a slightly better overview from atop horse back at the rear of the lines but even then his field of view did not stretch past the sea of greecians.

Time continued to pass and the Praetorians finally began to crack as their death toll began to mount.

However it was at this time, Julius could bolster their morale, for after taking another break to reset his cooldown, he checked on the [World Map] and could see that the encirclement had already begun.

"Do not give in to Fear! For our brothers are with us! The Spartans are with us! This battle is almost over one final push!!" <Julius>

To all those around him his words were confusing.

The Surviving praetorians were the only party present who understood and with renewed vigor realigned their lines and with a second wind continued to hack and slash their way into the Greecians.

The Spartans not understanding but knowing something good had happened likewise was bolstered and that energy moved throughout their lines.

As for the Greecians their command structure began to break down.

Rumors had begun to flow through their lines about having been ambushed, or even surrounded.

This ripple began to fracture the once cohesive formations and their enemies were not about to let them go for their lapse in judgement.

"Men! On Three... As One!" <Julius>

His surviving men knowing their commanders plan, awaiting his count down.

"One... Two..." <Julius>

The praetorians gripped their shields tightly waiting for their call to action, across from them the Greecians began to get worried, for something was about to happen but what?

"Three!" <Julius>

At his call the front three lines of his men almost in an instant formed up a front aligned testudo formation, a quite literal shield wall.

Meanwhile behind them Julius was standing now on a shield platform being held a lot by his own men as he towered above his enemy.

"The men before me trample the hearth and incite chaos, for the betterment of the world their lives shall be offered up in the name of the goddess [Vesta’s Flame]" <Julius>

His spoken words could not be heard over the call and cry’s of battle however from atop his platform Julius began his preparations.

Having drawn a pair of blades, the Heavenly Demon Rain black blade in his dominant hand while i high purity steel sword was clutched in his off-hand.

With both his sword held in his outstretched arms he gathered his mana arts summoning the flames of Vesta using his skill until the golden flames had coated both of his blades.

Then similar to Yuri’s own fighting style their God-King began to perform what appeared to be a sword dance, all eyes were drawn to him, but Julius could care less, as his blades twirled through the air, leaving after-images and flaming trails in their wake.

As the speed increased further his intent became known.

At each apex movement a flying slash was unleashed, causing a massive flaming wave to be unleashed before it came crashing down upon the heads of the Greecians who could only stare mouths agape as the power of the gods themselves descended upon them.

Chaos descended and the battle formation of the enemy collapsed as everyone who could see the shimmering figured wreathed in flames in the distance wanted nothing more than to get away from that figure.

Julius was locked in his routine, casting wave after wave into the crowd his own forces not advancing instead reveling in the fact that they had a moment to breath with their only job being to maintain positions and protect their lord.

As his maneuvers finally began to come to an end after dozens of flying slashed had been unleashed Julius staggered a little having used up all his energy and even managed to induce a bout of dizziness.

But as he stared out he could plainly see the object was achieved.

The bulk of the Greecian force that remained alive had cast down their weapons and was kneeling down among the dead having chosen to surrender rather than face further annihilation.
