- - Lunan Kingdom Remnants POV - -

Baron Roderick had returned from his journey abroad to the former Lunan territories one of which was Julius’s by right granted to him by the previous king but the other 2 he took authority of by his own merit.

The baron returned to the new seat of Lunanese power, the Major city of the deep south, chosen specifically as it was the one most far away from the new borders with Visigoth without running so far away as to take up residence in Bridget.

The newly coronated queen was Hayna daughter of a high noble whose house had previously fallen into ruin, but after the fall of the capital, the death of the king, and the rest of the noble line, she was the one who took up the call, rallied what remained of their armies, and people.

When in actuality this was only possible thanks to Visigoth caring not for the conquest of Lunan which was simple but instead pressing to take down the true threat which was Julius himself.

Hayna had prevented the spread of this news within the South of course, to allow the spread would prevent her personal rise to power, and see the whole of the South turning to Julius for leadership instead.

The Baron was summoned the minute he returned.

After entering the makeshift throne room the man knelt down before the Queen, she was not dressed like one would expect a queen to be dressed, she was wearing what would be closer seen as the male military general’s uniform within the kingdom of Lunan the queen appearance no longer looked like her haggard self, she seemed full of life.

"Your majesty. I have returned from the upstart lands, they have decided to reject your offer, instead proclaiming themselves to be a separated Grand Duchy, and..." <Baron Roderick>

"What? Speak what else is there" <Queen Hayna>

The queen’s tone was incensed by the news already revealed thus far.

"Well the Lord accepted our declaration of war upon his state." <Baron Roderick>

"What!? What declaration of war?" <Queen Hayna>

"Well... that is..." <Baron Roderick>

"Spit it out!" <Queen Hayna>

"The lord took our demands against his lands and people to be aggressive, and well after certain statements made against her majesty, or rather the crown things were said which led to our present state." <Baron Roderick>

"You fool!" <Queen Hayna>

With a wave, her royal guard advanced and seized the baron, before taking him away and imprisoning him in the dungeon.

Gods above, we’ve hardly started recovering and now that bastard come to claim what is mine.

Roderick should have been brighter, the rumours though suppressed still speak of Julius’s military genius, many times over that of even my own!

The war with Visigoth was beyond costly, we lost half of our kingdom, along with a good 1/4 of the army, and then there were a good majority of deserters after that.

The Lunan kingdom presently has only 40,000 as an armed force, and we could call up levies but the people’s mood is certainly not one that would openly accept conscription at this point.

As the queen was mulling this newly arrived new over in her head, the door to her throne room flung wide open.

"Your Majesty!" <Runner>

In came a commoner wearing poor clothes, her guards were jolted and rushed to apprehend the man.

"Enemies!!" <Runner>

At this screamed out word, the queen stopped his arrest, the man was released and prompted dropped to his knees

"I come with news! Our territory and that of the former kingdom of Bridget have been invaded!" <Runner>

"What!?" <Queen Serena>

Her shock was great, only just moments before she was informed that were at war, and now she learns that an invasion had begun.

Dammit Julius Aquitania!!

You planned this, you would have declared war on us regardless, and you just used the Baron to cause him to provoke you!

To be able to invade so soon after his return this would be the only explanation.

The queen sadly did not know that the Baron did not ride back at top speed to deliver the news, choosing to ride for only a modest number of hours a day before taking a rest.

So by wasting this time it allowed Julius’s forces to assemble and march crossing over the borders without meeting resistance.

"Summon the commanders at once!" <Queen Hayna>

The queen rose from her makeshift throne, her face was fuming with anger.

If that brat thinks he can take what is mine after I worked so hard to get it he’s sorely mistaken.

With my revenge against the duke completed it is my duty as the last scion of my father’s house to bring about the greatest outcome so that he will not weep tears of blood in the afterlife.

The Lunan kingdom began to mobilize as much as it could, under the Queen’s personal directive, all slaves within the capital were acquired and conscripted as emergency forces for the war, while a levy was lain on the villages and capital itself to build up as large a force as possible.

Days passed while this was happening and daily news arrived that further incensed the queen’s mood, many pieces of art and pottery was smashed during her rampages, and it came to be known that cities and towns were willingly surrendering to the advancing forces without offering up resistance.

And riders had come even to the capital proclaiming that the Grand Duke was merciful declaring no looting, or killings would take place if they opened their gates upon his arrival.

The numbers of levies arriving was far less than to be expected and it was certain in the queens mind that the reason was because her own people were betraying her, choosing to throw their lot in with the scum of a lord who simply was lucky in all his fights against Visigoth rather than their chosen queen who’d served the nation all her life with honor.

This will not be the end of Lunan!

This will not be the end of my family!

This will not be the end of me!

As her madness deepened her mind went to darker places where plans one aught not think of began to take root.
