Chapter 99: Southern Region.
Three days later.
Southern Region. Purple Stone City.
Inside a massive mansion, Mo Jian sat behind a massive wooden table. He wore a serious expression as he wrote.
Creak!
The door was pushed open and Zhao Tian came in with an unsightly expression.
"Young Master..." His voice trailed off.
"Rejected?" Mo Jian asked, raising his head.
Zhao Tian nodded. "Why don’t we try to meet the city lord?" he suggested.
They had arrived at Purple Stone City two days ago and had been trying to find a foothold.
Unfortunately, every business in the city was controlled by powerful clans.
To get a store at the center of the city, you needed permission not from the city lord but from the Mo clan.
The Mo clan was one of the hegemons in the city, and they had been trying to arrange a meeting with them.
But to their dismay, they were snubbed, not given any chance at all.
"Forget it." Mo Jian shook his head. "Do you think the city lord has control over the city? If he did, why are so many clans vying for power, controlling all the notable businesses?"
When Zhao Tian heard this, he opened his mouth but failed to speak.
Indeed, if the city lord had control over the city, the city wouldn’t be divided into many factions vying for power.
Just as they were discussing, the door was pushed open and a middle-aged woman entered.
"Young Master, I’ve arranged the meeting," the middle-aged woman reported.
She was an elder from the Xu clan. Elder Xu Bin.
"Thank you, Elder Bin. When is the meeting?" Mo Jian smiled.
"Tonight at the Western District."
"Alright. Start making preparations," Mo Jian commanded.
Zhao Tian and Elder Xu Bin nodded and left the room.
Although they failed to receive an audience from the Mo clan and other clans.
There was still an alternative method.
Since he had decided to pursue the path of business, he would do anything to achieve his goal.
[New Mission]
[Objective (1): Increase your influence in the Purple Stone City.]
[Objective (2): Control a portion of the market.]
[Objective (3): Earn one million middle-grade Spirit Stones]
[Objective (4): Destroy the Mo clan to solidify your influence in the city.]
[Time: 7 days.]
[Reward: ??]
[Penalty: ??]
’Huh!’
A slight gasp escaped from Mo Jian’s mouth. It had been over two months since he received a system mission.
Looking at the series of notifications stunned him for a moment.
Since he activated the system, this was the first time he had received such a large mission.
Apart from that, this was the first time the system gave him a mission to destroy another clan.
"This is going to be difficult," he muttered, creasing his brow.
The first two objectives were quite easy to achieve, but the last two wouldn’t be quite easy.
Earning one million middle-grade Spirit Stones in a week wouldn’t be easy when they had just arrived in the Southern Region.
As for the destruction of the Mo clan, he did not think about it for now.
Right now, he needed to prepare for the meeting tonight.
....
Under the veil of darkness, a carriage slowly moved toward the Western District.
The Western District was one of the major parts of the outer city. It was known for its lawless action. It was the den of thieves.
Brothels and gambling dens filled the street.
Even though it was already dark, the district was still bustling with life.
Looking at the carriage, everyone in the district had a sharp glint in their eyes.
Carriages were an uncommon sight in the Western District.
Only those from the inner city would use it in such a lawless area.
Seated inside the carriage, Mo Jian and Zhao Tian looked at the street with a fascinated gaze.
In the Western Region, they had no such area. Even though there were brothels and gambling houses, it was not as busy as this.
Slowly, the carriage stopped at the extreme end of the district before an ordinary two-story building.
"Young Master, we’ve arrived," Elder Xu Bin’s voice came from outside.
Mo Jian and Zhao Tian came out of the carriage. Mo Jian did not show any change in his expression while Zhao Tian could not hide his curiosity.
Everywhere was quiet; only a handful of people were walking by.
"This way..."
Elder Xu Bin led the way into the two-story building. When they entered, she flashed a badge at the old man at the door.
When the old man saw the badge, he creased his brow for a moment. "The boss is waiting for you."
She nodded and beckoned Mo Jian and Zhao Tian to follow her.
On the second floor, she knocked lightly on the door.
"You can enter." A thick voice came from the other side of the door.
Creak!
The door was pushed open and the three entered.
Seated on a large cushion was a middle-aged man eating fruits.
He did not raise his head as he continued to eat.
"Please take your seat." He pointed to the empty spot across from him.
Elder Xu Bin and Zhao Tian did not sit; only Mo Jian took a seat.
When Mo Jian sat down, he did not rush to speak as he crossed one leg over the other while waiting for the middle-aged man.
"You’re such a patient young man." The middle-aged man chuckled as he stopped eating.
He cleaned his hands and mouth and asked,
"For you to have the famous Xu Clan elder work for you, you must be from a powerful clan. What can this Kun do for you?" he asked, getting straight to the point.
Mo Jian remained calm while maintaining his posture. "I heard you control the black market. What will it take for me to have a store in the black market?"
When Kun heard this, he knitted his brow. As the leader of the underworld, he had deals with many shady businesses.
Therefore, when he saw Elder Bin requesting his favor, he knew they wanted to take a foothold in the outer ring.
But he never expected it was not the Xu Clan that wanted to start a business in the outer city but a strange young man.
And not only that, he wanted to start it in the black market.
Kun did not speak for a moment. He stared at Mo Jian for a while before turning to look at Elder Xu Bin.
"Young man, for my past relationship with the Xu Clan, I’ll advise you not to venture into that line of business. If you want to start a business in the Western District, I can give out any store on the surface."
"Thank you, Elder Kun..."
"I’m not an elder. You can call me Boss Kun," he interrupted without any change in his expression.
Mo Jian nodded. "Thank you, Boss Kun, but I’ve made up my mind. Please, help us."
"Alright! I won’t meddle in your business again." He did not care if he died or not. He was reminding him just because of the Xu Clan.
"I can give you a normal-sized store for one hundred thousand Spirit Stones a year."
"I don’t want a normal-sized store. I want to buy a medium-sized store," Mo Jian responded. "I believe this is possible with Boss Kun."
"Indeed. It is possible. Give me one million lower-grade Spirit Stones and a medium-sized store will be yours," he said with a provoking smile.
’Let’s see if you amount to that.’
"No problem." Mo Jian nodded, still with his usual expression. "Boss Kun, please provide the store deed and I’ll get the money."
’Huh!’
He widened his eyes in shock. He had expected Mo Jian to reject such a high price.
This was not like the normal store that was available to everyone. It was the black market, and only a handful of people visited it.
Who in his right mind would spend such a huge amount to buy a measly medium-sized store?
Looking at the stunned expression on Boss Kun’s face, Zhao
Tian and Elder Xu Bin could only sigh in their minds.
Mo Jian was the wealthiest person in the Western Region. No one came close to him.
What is one million lower-grade Spirit Stones to him?
This was the amount he dashed to people on a regular basis.
Selling one Noble Grade Spirit Link would make ten times the amount of this store.
So, how could he compare himself to Mo Jian?
A mere local gangster.
Zhao Tian clicked his tongue and lost interest in the negotiation. His horizon had broadened beyond a measly one million lower-grade Spirit Stones.
Boss Kun recovered from his shock and laughed.
"Hahaha. I love your courage and decisiveness." He clapped his hands twice.
Creak!
The door was pushed open and a man brought a scroll. He gave Boss Kun the scroll and left without uttering a word.
"This is the deed of the store," Boss Kun said with a bright smile.
Mo Jian received the scroll and unfolded it. Indeed, it was a deed of a store in the Western District.
Without speaking, he turned and looked at Zhao Tian. Immediately, Zhao Tian left the room.
Seeing this, a sharp glint appeared on Boss Kun’s face. ’Where did this fat sheep come from?’
’Hahaha. If I can get his wealth, I can elevate my standing in the city,’ he thought, unable to contain his greed.
A few minutes later, Zhao Tian came back with three men carrying a massive box.
Looking at the massive box, Boss Kun could not contain his excitement as he rushed to check the boxes.
’Huh!’ His eyes shone brightly looking at the shiny small stones.
’Hahaha.’ He laughed heartily in his mind.
"Boss Kun, it is nice doing business with you," Mo Jian said and stood up.
"My pleasure..." he responded, but his eyes were still fixated on the shiny Spirit Stones.
Just as Mo Jian and his people departed, an old man appeared from the shadows.
"Kill them and bring back my money," he commanded.
