Chapter 90: The Furious Elder Bai
Chapter 90: The Furious Elder Bai
The following day, the Thousand Wealth Chamber made an announcement. Now, in the Western Region, the chamber was one of the dominant forces.
Therefore, every action caused a wave. Quickly, the announcement became the talk of the town and cities.
"Have you heard about the Thousand Wealth Chamber announcement?"
Seated in a tavern, a group of friends gossiped with a light smile on their faces.
"Of course, everyone has heard about the announcement."
"Are you not curious about their new product?"
"Who is not curious? You know, everything that the chamber releases is not something that could be found in our region."
"Ah! I hope their new product won’t be as expensive as the Spirit Link and the Cloudsoar Retreat ticket."
"Who knows? We just have to wait till tomorrow to find out."
While the conversation was going on, all the major clans in the region were desperately trying to find out what the Thousand Wealth Chamber was going to unveil tomorrow.
Most importantly, the Bai Clan. After their misfortune in the Southern Region.
They had been pressed with money, and this was one of the reasons they easily sold their mines to the chamber.
"Clan Master, what should we do?" an elder asked, staring at the Bai Clan Master.
"There is nothing we can do. Right now, our top priorities should be how we’re going to stay afloat in our current crises." the Bai Clan Master responded with a deep sigh.
They poured all their fortune into the Southern Region business. Unfortunately, it did not go as they planned.
All the elders in the grand hall wore a solemn expression. They knew their current situation was dire.
"Is there any news from the border?" the First Elder asked.
"Not yet..." another elder in charge of intelligence responded.
Apart from their loss, they needed to keep the enemies at bay from stepping into their land.
Else, they would be the region’s sole enemy.
"That should be our main priority right now. Those from the Southern Region would not bat an eye if they wanted to kill us. Therefore, we must make sure they do not step into our territory."
"I’ve already made the necessary preparations. At worst, we would notify the Dust Valley Sect." the Clan Master responded.
Things had already reached this level. Keeping it a secret would not matter any longer.
"Agreed." the First Elder nodded. "Send some people to check out what the chamber is going to release tomorrow. Our luck might change from it."
As a merchant family before they branched into martial arts, each of them was adept at business.
From the Spirit Link sales, they had made a lot of wealth, and if not for their greediness, their clan’s wealth could sustain for the next decades.
While the Bai Clan were trying to paddle through their crises, the Fang Clan and the Lei Clan were preparing for tomorrow.
As long as there was a way to make money from the new product, they wouldn’t hesitate to partner with the chamber once again.
Likewise, in the Dust Valley Sect, the disciples and elders were all curious about the Thousand Wealth Chamber announcement.
Many elders and disciples visited the Refining Hall, but they were not allowed to enter.
Quickly, news began to spread that the Refining Hall was hiding something important.
In a matter of hours, the news had gone viral. Even the core elders and disciples heard of the news.
Under such pressure, the Refining Hall was summoned to the grand hall together with all the elders to clear the air.
"Elder Luo Zhen, what are you hiding? Why are you not letting the elders and disciples into the hall?" the Contribution Hall elder asked.
"Apart from that, for the past couple of months, the Refining Hall and the Talisman Hall have been lagging behind in their contribution." the Internal Affairs Hall elder added from the side.
Under the various accusations, both Elder Bai Delan and Elder Luo Zhen did not show any changes in expression.
To be precise, Elder Bai Delan closed his eyes as if he was lost in thought, whispering some inaudible words.
"What am I missing?" he mused and frowned. "Since I’ve calculated the gravity on all objects, the problem is not there. Perhaps it is in the runes."
He continued murmuring as he pulled his beard very hard, but he seemed not to have noticed.
Meanwhile, all the elders looked at him in shock.
Even the Sect Master was stunned, looking at Elder Bai Delan. However, both Elder Luo Zhen and Elder Li Huang were not surprised by this.
Since the last exhibition, Elder Bai Delan had become a different person. He could go for days without sleeping, focusing on his research while murmuring to himself.
Although they were not much different from each other, they did not shut off from the world.
"Elder Bai!" an elder called.
"What! Why are you disturbing me? Do you want some beating?" Elder Bai Delan snapped. He opened his eyes and glared at the elder.
’Hmm!’
All the elders were stunned. They looked at him as if they were looking at an entirely different elder. This was unlike the stable, calm elder they knew.
"Elder Bai, are you alright?" Supreme Elder Sun asked calmly.
He was the only Supreme Elder in the hall. As for Elder Zhao, he had gone into seclusion.
Turning his head to look at the Supreme Elder, Elder Bai Delan did not show any changes in his expression.
"I’m in the middle of my research. Why is everyone bothering me? If there is nothing important to discuss, I’ll take my leave." he said as a matter of fact.
"Elder Bai, we don’t mean to stop you from your research. You have been failing in your duties, and we want to know why." the Sect Master asked calmly, unbothered by his rude behaviour.
"Just because we don’t allow some useless good-for-nothing to enter the Refining Hall, a meeting was called. Is the sect that idle that you’re free to gossip?" he fired back.
"Elder Bai, be mindful of your speech. You’re speaking to the Sect Master." the Punishment Hall elder warned.
"Why should I mind my speech?" he sneered. "Our sect will be going for the summit in the next few months. That’s enough to occupy your time. But no, you’d rather gossip about a hall that is none of your business."
"As for not contributing to the hall—Hehehehe." His disdainful laughter echoed in the hall. "Don’t get me started."
"Do you want us to continue on our old path, submitting the same old talisman without improving ourselves? Is that what you call contributing to the sect?"
"I’ve been stuck at the peak of Tier-1 Rune Master for decades. What did you or anyone do about it?" His gaze wandered, moving from one elder to the others.
"Now that I’ve decided to focus on myself, you dare complain?"
Everyone in the hall could see his rage visible on his face. This was the first time they saw him this angry.
How precious was his research for him to be this riled up?
"Elder Bai, calm down." the Sect Master said calmly.
Elder Bai turned and looked at the Sect Master for a moment before he controlled his raging fury. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
This time around, no one dared utter a word.
The Sect Master furrowed lightly. ’Elder Bai is on the brink of breaking through to the Golden Core Realm.’
He was stunned to the core. This was the first time he saw something like that. He had not even heard of it before.
He wouldn’t be shocked if Elder Bai progressed like everyone else through cultivation techniques. However, his case was different.
It was like he was surrounded by runes, and each rune was connecting to the world, elevating his cultivation.
’It seems whatever he is researching is the reason for his progress.’ he thought, and a look of realization appeared on his face.
Without changing his expression, he commanded, "No one should disturb Elder Bai in his research. As for the Refining Hall, they are free to do anything they want as long as it is not affecting the hall."
When the elders heard this, they were shocked. Why would the Sect Master change his stance? They exchanged subtle glances but kept quiet.
Just then, Elder Luo Zhen cleared his throat. "Just because we did not meet our monthly quotas does not mean we’re idle or that we’re contributing less to the sect."
"For runes, when Elder Bai is done with his research, there will be an abundance of Superior Tier-1 Talismans. Since you’re all impatient..."
He opened his spatial pouch and took out a long broadsword. The sword hilt was silver, and its scabbard was darkish brown.
Seeing the sword, it caught everyone’s attention.
"Can anyone produce their best weapon?" Elder Luo Zhen asked casually.
All the elders were curious, and they looked at each other.
"Elder Luo, I’ve a shield that I found from traveling outside the region." the External Affairs Hall elder said and took out the shield.
"Apart from a Golden Core attack that might break through the shield, anyone in the Core Refining Realm can forget about breaking it." he added confidently.
"Good. I’ll use the strength of Early Core Refining Realm Stage-1 while you defend with all your might. Is that clear?"
"Are you looking down on me, Elder Luo?" his face darkened.
"Enough of your nonsense. Just follow what I say."
The External Affairs elder looked at the Sect Master and nodded at him.
"Fine!" he responded, but his face was etched with anger.
Without standing up from his seat, he unsheathed the sword from its scabbard. The moment the sword left its scabbard, a terrifying sharpness filled the hall.
’This...!’
All the elders widened their eyes in disbelief.
Without waiting for the elder to recover from his shock, Elder Luo Zhen swung the sword.
Whoosh!
All the Core Refining elders could not perceive how the sword moved, but the Sect Master and the External Affairs Hall elder could feel the might in the attack.
The External Affairs Hall elder trembled, his spine drenched in cold sweat. To him, the world had disappeared, leaving only the sword that was going to hack him asunder.
’I’m doomed. Why did I step out?’ he cried in his heart, regretting his action.
