Chapter 70: Inspiration
Chapter 70: Inspiration
Mo Jian left the Xu clan with a light smile on his face. Everything had gone according to plan. Now, all he needed to do was wait.
In a week’s time, the Xu clan would send some of their men to scout the Southern Region.
Going to the Central Region, they would have to pass through the Southern Region before they could arrive at the Central Region.
Thus, they needed to scout for any major threat before they began the journey. And who’s better for the job than a clan that was once part of the Southern Region?
Better, they came from a lineage of assassins. Their action would be discreet for his mission.
To set up the Transmission Relay Hub Array for the Spirit Link, Mo Jian needed to be careful. He needed to plan carefully.
For them to succeed in the Assembly Summit that would happen in the next six months.
Everything would depend on how they set up the Transmission Relay Hub Array.
Seated in his carriage, lost in thought, the carriage passed through the busy street with peddlers and hawkers shouting for customers to notice their wares.
Just then, from the corner of his eye, he saw two dirty kids, dressed in rags, throwing what looked like stones to each other.
Their faces were covered in pure joy, not minding their current situation.
"Stop!" he said abruptly.
Instantly, the coachman stopped the carriage with his face filled with confusion. Beside him, the sturdy guard was also confused, but he reacted quickly and rushed to Mo Jian’s carriage.
"Young Master, is there something wrong?"
"No, I’m alright." Mo Jian had his gaze on the two kids still playing.
"Do you see them?" He pointed at the two dirty kids.
Filled with confusion, the sturdy guard followed his finger’s direction and saw the kids in rags throwing something.
’What is so special about two dirty kids?’ His confusion deepened.
"Call them."
’Hmm?’
The guard looked at Mo Jian with wide eyes. This was the first time he saw him act this way. ’What’s going on? Did the Xu clan do something to the Young Master?’
Even though his head was full of confusion, he still followed the command.
When the two kids saw the sturdy guard with an expressionless face, they stopped their play and looked at him with apprehension.
Fear marred their faces as they were ready to escape.
"I mean no harm. My Young Master wants to speak with you. Follow me," the guard said with his best available smile.
The kids looked at one another, then they looked at the guard before turning to look at the luxurious carriage.
"Wow!" Their eyes widened in amazement.
This was the first time they had seen such a beautiful carriage in their lives.
As kids that grew up in the slum, the most beautiful things they ever saw were the buns sold at the famous restaurant in the city.
"Come with me, my Young Master won’t harm you."
The two kids nodded and looked at each other, fidgeting, dragging their feet while following him.
When they arrived beside the carriage and saw Mo Jian’s handsome face, they couldn’t hide their shock.
"Y-Young Master are you an immortal?" the youngest of the two kids asked with pure eyes.
Mo Jian smiled.
"No. I’m not," he shook his head.
"But you look like one."
"Hahaha." He laughed softly. "Have you ever seen an immortal?"
The kid was quiet for a moment before he replied. "My sister told me stories of how beautiful immortals are. So, you must be an immortal."
"Oh, you have a sister? Where is she? What about your parents?"
This time, the older one responded. "We don’t have parents. It is only our big sister that takes care of us."
Mo Jian was not surprised. The lives of those living in the slum were tragic to say the least.
"Sorry about that. Where is your sister? I want to meet her."
The kids were quiet for a moment before the older one spoke. "Our sister works at the restaurant in the center of the city. She only comes back by midnight."
"That won’t be any problem," Mo Jian looked at his guard and said. "Bring their sister to me."
"Yes, Young Master."
"Take him to your sister, and he will bring her here. Don’t worry, everything will be fine." Mo Jian said with a reassuring smile.
The kids nodded and led the guard away to their sister’s workplace.
Ten minutes later, the group returned with a tall, average-looking girl. She was between the ages of 18 and 20 years.
Looking at the luxurious carriage, she was nervous, shooting a piercing gaze at her two younger siblings.
From her experience, anyone using such an expensive carriage was anything but good. She had a fair share of the arrogant young masters in the city.
The two kids wore an aggrieved expression. They did nothing wrong, why was their sister giving such a cold gaze?
"Young Master, I’m sorry for whatever my younger brothers did to you. I promise to pay you back," she said and bowed deeply when she arrived before Mo Jian.
Her voice was filled with fear and nervousness.
"Big sister, we did nothing wrong," the younger kid said, trying to correct his sister.
"Shut up! Who asked you to talk?" she snapped and glared at him.
The two kids trembled under her cold, piercing gaze.
Watching the scene, Mo Jian could only smile lightly. "You must be their older sister?"
"Yes, Young Master," she responded with her bow.
"Your brothers did nothing wrong. So, don’t scare them with your gaze." His voice was calm, without any hint of annoyance or fury.
’Hmm?’
She was stunned and could not believe her ears. She raised her head to check if Mo Jian was pretending, only to see him smiling lightly.
’What a handsome man,’ she exclaimed in her heart.
"I’ve waited enough time already. So let me get straight to the point." Mo Jian’s voice changed with slight seriousness.
"Your brothers helped me realize something important. So, I want to reward them, but I fear they might be targeted. So that’s why I called you."
He took a small pouch from his spatial pouch and gave it to her.
"This should help your family. Come to the Dust Valley City Thousand Wealth Chamber. I have a better job for you," he said.
Receiving the small pouch felt heavy in her hand. Her head was dizzy, unsure if she was dreaming. When she came back to her senses, the carriage had long gone.
"Big sister, what is inside the pouch?" the younger kid asked curiously.
’Ah yes, let me check what is inside the pouch.’
Slowly, she opened the pouch and saw small shiny stones. Merely looking, the stones would number close to one thousand.
"Kill me!" she muttered in a daze.
Meanwhile, Mo Jian had long forgotten about the short episode, as he was already planning the next big thing in the Western Region.
This time, it would be an invention, but a game.
This game, everyone could participate in it.
This would serve as a bridge to connect both the cultivators and the mortals alike.
What better than the game of sport?
