Chapter 68: Plans

"Son, what do you think of the summit?" the Sect Master asked, staring at his enigmatic son.

Seated beside him was his wife, who was also staring at their son.

Mo Jian played with the invitation scroll, his expression unreadable. "Since I’ve never been to the outside world, I can’t make the right judgment...."

He paused to arrange his thoughts. "But what I know is that strength is king, and that, we don’t have. Thus, we only have one option left."

His parents didn’t interrupt him as they listened.

The current Mo Jian was not someone anyone could compare with. In the whole Western Region, if he claimed to be the second richest person, no one would dare claim to be the first.

As a sect, they didn’t even compare to him.

Mo Jian didn’t look at his parents as he continued. "We need to be smart. Extremely smart. With the Spirit Link alone, that’s enough to turn this place into a fierce battleground."

His parents nodded in agreement.

"Therefore, we must delay the Spirit Link from appearing in the outside world for as long as possible. Although we can’t stop it, we can delay it while making the necessary plans."

"Besides, only the lower-grade Spirit Link can function outside the Western Region. As for the high-grade, it won’t work."

"This gives us a lot of room to maneuver."

"Apart from that, we need a temporary ally with strong deterrence." He paused and rubbed his temple. "We’re just too weak..." he muttered.

His parents exchanged subtle glances and agreed with him. They were currently too weak. If they were given another couple of years with the concentration of their new cultivation ground...

They could easily catch up to many major forces. Unfortunately...

"So we can only depend on our allies..." his father said in a low voice.

Depending on an ally had more shortcomings than advantages. Who could say if the ally wouldn’t turn on them once they saw their wealth?

"Hmm... Not like that..." Mo Jian shook his head.

Their situation was delicate and sensitive. Most importantly—his situation. With all his establishments, he knew he had to tread carefully or else he risked losing everything.

But before that could happen, he would fight to the best of his abilities. And who would win or lose was yet to be determined.

"Father, there are six months before the summit, right?" he asked.

"Yes," his father nodded.

"Then, we need to arrive in the Central Region three months earlier."

"Why?" his mother questioned.

With how dangerous the Central Region was, arriving early meant they would face a lot of danger.

"To take control..." His voice was full of confidence. "To avoid the suppression of the powerful clans and sects, we need to infiltrate deeper into their world. Before they realize what’s going on, we’ll already have enough bargaining chips."

"How are you going to achieve that?" his father asked with a puzzled expression.

To infiltrate their world was easier said than done.

"Father, what are the three things men can’t do without?" he asked with a mysterious smile.

His father was stunned, filled with confusion. His wife looked at him, waiting to hear his response.

Seeing the gaze of his son and wife, he became serious and thought for a moment before responding. "Perhaps, strong weapons and powerful techniques. As for the last one, I don’t know."

When Mo Jian heard his father, a black line appeared on his face. What sort of bullshit?

What do you mean by powerful weapons and techniques?

He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. His father’s thinking was too straightforward, too clear-cut, without any worldly nuance.

"Am I wrong?" his father asked, looking at his son’s expression.

Even his mother wore a look of confusion.

"I think your response was too simple," she added after thinking for a moment.

"Really?!"

Shaking his head, Mo Jian knew his father would never get it, even if given hundreds of years.

"Father, you’re wrong. The three things most men can’t do without are: women, alcohol, and money."

His parents widened their eyes in disbelief. Neither of them had thought in that direction at all. Indeed, most men couldn’t do without these three things.

Every man loved beautiful women—no exceptions. As for money and alcohol, that didn’t even need to be debated.

"Son, you’re right. My thoughts are too shallow," his father admitted.

"Father, your thoughts aren’t too shallow. It’s just the way you view life and your life’s pursuit."

"Our son is right. If not for me, would you have settled down and had a son? Humph! All you think about is cultivation," his wife snorted.

Mo Jian’s father wore a bittersweet smile. Was he wrong to focus on getting stronger quickly?

"Wife, you know I’ve changed," he said, caressing her hand.

"You better be..." she snorted, and the fake anger on her face vanished.

"So, son, how’re you going to do it?" she asked seriously.

Mo Jian wasn’t surprised by his parents’ lovey-dovey actions. He knew how much these two loved each other.

"I’ve already got a plan." His voice was filled with confidence. "One of you just needs to break through to the Golden Core realm before the summit."

"What!" his parents shouted in unison.

Mo Jian didn’t care about their expressions as he stood up. "You don’t expect me to do all the hard work while you enjoy each other’s embrace, do you?"

When he reached the exit, he stopped and looked at his parents. "Even with the two of you reaching Golden Core, that’s not enough. We need a third Golden Core expert."

"You’re right. I’ve thought about this, but without a cultivation technique, there’s no way," his father said seriously. "Should I share—"

"No," Mo Jian interrupted. He already knew what his father was going to say. "Don’t worry, I’ll try to find a general technique that the sect can use to help promote the elders to the Golden Core realm."

When his parents heard this, they were stunned for a moment before their expressions returned to normal. But deep down, they were astonished by the rich inheritance he was lucky to have.

After Mo Jian’s departure, his father looked at his wife and said seriously, "We need to increase our strength, and the disciples’ cultivation levels are too low."

"You’re right. After this month, I’ll return to seclusion and try to break through to the next stage."

"Good. I’ll work on the disciples."

Although they joked with each other, they wouldn’t allow their son to bear the burden alone.

It was the responsibility of the sect—and the sect would bear it.
