Chapter 51: Challenging Mo Jian
Chapter 51: Challenging Mo Jian
"Have you heard?"
"Heard what?"
"I heard Mo Jian will be the team captain for this year’s tournament."
"What?! How is that possible?!"
The news of Mo Jian becoming the team captain for this year’s annual tournament shook the Dust Valley Sect to its core.
Instantly, many disciples were enraged and went to see the elders, but their response only infuriated them further.
"Chief, I heard that trash will be the captain for this year’s tournament," Yuan Yimu said in a low voice.
"What?! Impossible!" Deng Jie widened his eyes, and the teacup in his hand slipped, shattering into pieces.
"How could the elders do this?" His voice rose an octave as he gnashed his teeth. "They are looking down on us! How could they make that trash our team captain?"
"I can’t accept this!" he shouted, striding out of his courtyard.
"Today, I’ll show the elders that this trash is nothing but trash."
Meanwhile, the core disciples were equally furious.
"Junior Sister, can you accept this?" An ordinary-looking girl turned to Zou Mei.
Everyone knew the history between Mo Jian and her.
Zou Mei, however, merely glanced in the direction of the inner court.
Watching her silent reaction, the girl frowned slightly. "Are you not going to challenge him? Or have you forgotten his shameless actions toward you?"
Zou Mei turned her head to look at her Senior sister. "How is that your business? If you don’t accept the elders’ decision, why don’t you go and challenge him yourself?"
With that, she walked away in annoyance.
How could she not understand what her senior sister was trying to do? She might be young, but she wasn’t a fool.
Watching Zou Mei’s retreating figure, the senior sister’s jaw dropped, leaving her frozen in place.
"Hmph! Without your talent, you’re nothing. Tsk!" She stomped her foot and left in anger.
The peaceful core region soon became bustling with activity as many core disciples abandoned their cultivation.
The annual tournament was a rare chance to showcase their prowess to the world.
How could they accept being led by such a useless kid?
What would others think of them?
They couldn’t accept this and were determined to challenge him.
In the inner courtyard, a tense atmosphere permeated the air.
The inner disciples trembled at the sight of the numerous core disciples appearing all at once.
None of them concealed their auras, and the overwhelming pressure of their Foundation Realm cultivation filled the surroundings.
Against Foundation Realm disciples, what could mere mortal disciples amount to?
They were nothing but ants.
Noticing the core disciples all heading in the same direction, the inner disciples trailed behind them.
How could they miss the spectacle that was about to unfold?
Compared to the chaos happening outside, the Refining Hall remained quiet.
The refining disciples were too busy to care about the news.
Since the Refining Hall had joined the Thousand Wealth Chamber in creating Platinum-Grade and Noble-Grade Spirit Links,
they had no time to be idle.
Every day, they had to produce thousands of Spirit Links.
Inside the hall master’s room, two elders and a young man sat around a wooden table, studying a detailed drawing.
"Young Master, this is the most complicated blueprint I’ve ever seen," Elder Luo Zhen exclaimed in shock.
As the Refining Hall Master, he had crafted many intricate artifacts, but this...
Just looking at the complexity of the drawing made his head spin.
Seated beside him, Elder Bai Delan, the runes and talisman master, was equally stunned.
He would have argued with Mo Jian that this was not an artifact design, but Mo Jian had proven himself time and time again.
Thus, he did not doubt him.
Yet, he could not fathom how this intricate blueprint could be an artifact.
Mo Jian glanced at the two elders and smiled. "Elders, this is called a schematic. Before creating a major artifact,
one must first draft a schematic."
"So what is this schematic all about?" Elder Luo Zhen asked curiously.
Elder Bai Delan’s eyes brightened with interest.
Mo Jian did not respond immediately and instead asked, "Elders, have you ever wondered why it’s possible to use a few simple lines to create a powerful artifact or talisman?"
"Hmm?"
The two elders exchanged confused glances.
Mo Jian did not keep them waiting for long and continued, "Everyone knows about Spiritual Energy, which encompasses everything. But what if I told you that there are other forms of energy we can harness?"
"Really?!" The two elders leaned forward, eyes filled with disbelief.
"Yes... There—"
Before Mo Jian could finish, a frantic knock came from the door.
The two elders immediately sprang to their feet, furious at the interruption.
"Luo Zhen, how are you training your disciples? How dare they disturb us?!" Elder Bai Delan reprimanded his friend without concern for his dignity.
Elder Luo Zhen gritted his teeth in annoyance and flung open the door.
"Did I not warn you not to disturb us unless it was important?" Elder Luo Zhen bellowed.
The young disciple at the door froze, his face turning pale under the elder’s wrath.
"You’d better have a valid reason for this interruption, or you’ll spend the rest of the year working in the mines!"
"Huh?!"
The nearby disciples shivered at the hall master’s fury and quickly scurried away to avoid being implicated.
"E-Elder...."
"Speak!" Elder Luo Zhen snapped.
"Ah... Y-Yes... Yes... There are many core disciples outside causing a disturbance, demanding to see the Young Master," the disciple stammered, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
"Why would the core disciples disturb my hall?" Elder Luo Zhen frowned in confusion.
"I assume they’ve heard the news and want to challenge Mo Jian," Elder Bai Delan said from behind.
"So what?" Elder Luo Zhen scoffed.
To him, Mo Jian was far more important than their petty squabbles and inflated egos.
"Elders, let me meet them. Otherwise, we won’t be able to enjoy our discussion," Mo Jian said calmly.
The elders exchanged glances before nodding.
Mo Jian left the room.
Outside, nearly fifty core disciples had gathered, with many inner disciples lingering nearby, eager to witness the confrontation.
"Look! He’s coming out!" a voice shouted.
Instantly, all eyes turned to Mo Jian as he stepped out of the hall.
"Mo Jian! I challenge you to a duel!" Deng Jie roared, not waiting for the others.
