Chapter 101: The Qing Clan
Chapter 101: The Qing Clan
In the inner city, a boy wore a radiant smile as he rushed to his clan’s mansion.
’Hahaha. This is amazing!’ he exclaimed in his mind.
Just as he entered, lost in his excitement, a sharp voice echoed in his ears.
"Qing Yu, where are you coming from?" a middle-aged woman demanded in a cold tone.
’Hmm?!’
Qing Yu froze; fear crept up his face. Slowly, he turned his head and looked at his mother.
"M-Mother..." he stammered, his back drenched in cold sweat.
What was his mother doing here? By this time, his mother would be sleeping or cultivating.
This is bad!
In the Qing clan, the person he feared the most was his mother. He would rather be caught by his father than his mother.
I’m doomed!
"Can’t you speak? I’m talking to you!" his mother demanded, her anger rising.
Qing Yu trembled and took a deep breath. He knew if he did not respond immediately, this would make her more furious.
And his mother’s anger was not something he could bear.
"M-Mother... I went to the outer city for..."
"You did what?!" she cut him off, glaring sharply at her son. "Have you not been warned not to go to the outer city?!"
"You neglected your cultivation and chose to spend your time in those rotten places. Hmm?"
"I see you’ve grown wings now that you’ve broken through to the Foundation Realm." She sneered, but the anger in her eyes did not reduce, but increased.
"M-Mother, it is not like that... I’ve been cultivating all this while and I needed a break. I did not neglect my cultivation...."
"Hahaha. You needed a break and went to the outer city. Fine." She nodded. "If it is a break you want, I’ll give it to you."
"For the next one year, you’re banned from stepping out of the mansion."
"Mother!" Qing Yu cried.
This is going to kill him. How could he remain inside for a whole year without going out once?
"Humph!! I’ve said my piece. If you want to come out, you only have one option—break through to the third stage." She clicked her tongue and prepared to depart.
How could she not know how lazy her son was? She had been waiting for this opportunity to teach this rascal a lesson, and now, she had it.
For Qing Yu, it was like a death sentence. How could he break through to the third stage from the first stage in one year?
That’s impossible. Even for the most talented person in the city, it is impossible to break through two stages in one year.
However, looking at his mother, he knew she was damn serious.
"Mother... Can you give me a chance to explain why I went to the outer city?" he said and rushed after his mother.
His mother looked at her son, chuckling inwardly. If you think you can bribe me with anything you got from those damned places...
Boy, you’re naive.
Qing Yu did not know the thoughts of his mother. Right now, his thought was how to please his mother.
Arriving beside his mother, Qing Yu flashed her his best smile. "Mother, I’ve discovered something important. With it, we don’t have to use oil lamps or expensive light stones."
He looked at his mother’s face but did not see any change in her stoic face.
"The artifact is limited, and a person can only buy one. That is why I rushed back to the clan to tell Father," he added, still looking at her face.
"Really? What is this artifact? If you dare speak nonsense, I’ll break your leg," she threatened.
"Mother, why would I lie to you? Let’s go to your room and I’ll show you."
With his mother’s curiosity piqued, he knew she had taken the bait. It’s not even a bait per se.
Looking at the son and mother duo, the guards shook their heads. This was the first time the mother and son had performed such a charade.
Madam Qing might seem to be strict with her son, but that was just a facade. She loved her son dearly that she couldn’t sleep without seeing him.
And what happened tonight proved it.
Inside Madam Qing’s room, she stared at her son without blinking. "Where is the artifact you speak of?"
Without uttering a word, Qing Yu brought out the Moon Orb from his spatial storage.
"Mother, this is the artifact. With it, we can light up our mansion, making it bright like day," Qing Yu said seriously.
"Show me?" she asked skeptically.
All this talk was nothing without witnessing the effect of the artifact. However, merely looking at the artifact, she perceived it was not ordinary.
"Of course, Mother, I’ll show you."
Following the instructions from the sales representative from the Thousand Wealth Chamber,
he opened a secret chamber and placed a single lower-grade spirit stone.
Closing the secret chamber, he pressed the small button beside it.
Behold...
The dimly lit room was illuminated immediately, and Madam Qing widened her eyes.
She knew her son. Her son had been duped many times that she had lost count. Today, she expected the same result, and yet...
She looked at the room and found everything brightened up. The light stone hung at the corner was overshadowed.
With this, darkness would be a thing of the past. Most importantly, when traveling at night, this artifact could illuminate their path.
"Mother, what do you think?" Qing Yu asked proudly.
"Let me see." She ignored him and took the Moon Orb from his hand. "What is it called?"
"Moon Orb," he replied. "Mother, do you know you can even control the brightness?"
She raised her brow but did not respond. She examined the Moon Orb carefully, and he couldn’t help but be shocked.
The craftsmanship was something she had never seen before. Everything seemed to be perfectly made, like it was natural.
After looking at it for a few seconds, she stood up abruptly and commanded,
"Follow me."
Quickly, she brought her son to meet her husband.
Deep in the cover of the night, two carriages left the Qing Mansion in a hurry.
After a few minutes, the Qing carriage arrived at the outer city black market.
Qing Yu came down from the carriage in his disguise, while his mother was also covered in a black robe with a lion mask.
Even though they did not fear anyone in the outer city, it was best to be cautious.
Now, the bustling of the black market had reduced greatly, leaving only a few people roaming the streets while a few shops were still open.
Quickly, Qing Yu led the group to the Thousand Wealth Chamber.
However, when they arrived at the Thousand Wealth Chamber...
But to their shock, the chamber was closed.
"What happened?" Madam Qing asked in a low voice.
"I don’t know. I guess they’ve closed for today," Qing Yu was also confused.
Why would such a large store close this early?
Madam Qing was disappointed for a moment before she looked at the guards.
"Stay behind and watch the chamber. Anytime they’re open, send a message to me immediately."
With that, the Qing clansmen left the black market.
As the Qing clansmen departed, they were watched by two men in the distance, hiding in the shadows.
"Do you know who they are?" one of the men asked.
"How would I know?" the other man replied. "Let’s report this to Boss Kun. He will know what to do."
With that, the two men disappeared from their spot.
Meanwhile, on the roof of the Thousand Wealth Chamber, two people sat drinking their wine.
"I guess the boy is from the inner city," one of them said.
"Indeed, he’s from the inner city. The woman is an intermediate Core Refining warrior, while the guards were both Peak of Foundation Realm and Early Core Refining Realm," the other person responded.
It was a female voice.
"Do you see those rats?" she asked, looking in the direction of the two men hiding in the shadows.
"Those? Tsk. Forget them. Our mission is to secure the chamber," her partner, an old man, responded.
They were two Peak Core Refining Realm warriors tasked to protect the store.
...
The following night, the black market was busy as usual, with many thieves trying to sell their spoils of the day.
However, a couple of meters from the Thousand Wealth Chamber, two men looked at the opened chamber.
They had already sent a message to their Madam and were waiting for her.
Looking at the empty chamber, they couldn’t help but be baffled. For the Qing Patriarch’s wife to rush to the chamber, it meant it was not ordinary.
Yet, it was deserted.
Shortly, Madam Qing arrived without arousing the attention of everyone in the store.
Quickly, she made her way into the store.
Her son had already explained the rules of the chamber to her. Thus, she did not make the mistake of speaking.
She deposited the ten thousand lower-grade spirit stones and received the tag.
Inside the narrow passage, she raised her guard, ready for any attack, only to realize it was unnecessary.
She looked at the display items on each of the doors in fascination. Compared to other stores she had been to, this was different.
She saw the Moon Orb but did not enter the door and continued forward.
"Hmm... No-Heat Stove." She stopped for a moment before she continued.
"Hmm... Spirit-Link?" She stopped for a moment before she entered the room.
Inside, there was a shadow of a human, but no matter how she tried, she couldn’t see the appearance of the person.
Before she could speak, a pamphlet was pushed to her. When she read the pamphlet, her expression changed.
’How is this possible?!’ she screamed in her mind.
Even though such a thing had never appeared before, however, since the chamber could produce such an amazing Moon Orb...
She wanted to give it a try.
Thus, she bought the common-grade Spirit-Link.
And just like that, the Spirit-Link was introduced to the Southern Region.
