I'm Trapped Inside a Prince as the Most Powerful Entity -
Chapter 156: The Investigation Begins
Chapter 156: The Investigation Begins
And Eric did exactly as the [System Window] had instructed him to do.
After his conversation with the System the previous night while he was sitting on the park bench Eric had made up his mind.
He would focus solely on his training.
He would dedicate himself to becoming stronger for his people and for his kingdom of Estoria.
He would leave all the complex dangerous machinations the political games the power plays to the mysterious all-knowing entity that resided within him.
He would let the System handle it.
A short while later Kado Void and the other members of The New Warriors had escorted Eric to the nurse’s office.
It was a small clean building located not far from the dormitories.
True to his word Eric instructed them all to head to their classes.
He told them not to be late. After some initial hesitation they had departed leaving Eric standing alone before the office door. They trusted him to handle the situation.
Eric pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The room was clean and sterile. It smelled of antiseptic herbs and healing potions. It was quiet.
A healing magician an older man with a kind weary face was sitting at a desk. He was reading a thick leather-bound book. He looked up as Eric entered.
"Ah another one," the healer said his voice gentle and a little tired.
"Are you here to see the new boy as well? The one who was brought in last night? If so I can assure you he is fine now. His physical injuries have been healed. He is just a little... shaken up." He let out a small tired sigh.
"This sort of thing," he added more to himself than to Eric "is unfortunately quite common here at the Academy. Especially during the first few weeks."
Eric listened to the healing magician’s words. He then walked over to the bed where Ryan the boy from his group was lying.
He saw that the visible bruises and cuts that had likely covered Ryan’s body after the attack were now completely gone.
It was a testament to the healer’s skill. But Ryan was still lying with his eyes closed. His face was pale. His breathing was shallow. He was not resting peacefully.
Eric stood beside the bed for a moment. He looked down at the injured boy.
Then in the quiet of his own mind he spoke to the entity within. I have done as you asked me to. I am here with Ryan. Now it’s your turn to do your work. It is time for you to take over.
The moment the thought formed in his mind Adam from within his own internal domain took a deep metaphorical breath. His consciousness surged forward. And in an instant he had taken control of Eric’s body.
The change was seamless invisible.
The world for Adam sharpened. His perception became incredibly clear.
Where Eric had seen a peacefully sleeping fully healed boy Adam saw something else entirely. His heightened senses his supernatural perception were far beyond those of any mortal.
He could perceive the lingering traces of the attack on Ryan. He could see that Ryan’s body though outwardly healed on the surface had been subjected to numerous magical attacks.
There were faint residual signatures of different magical energies left inside the boy’s body.
There were subtle internal injuries that the healing magician’s general healing spells had not fully erased.
The healer had not detected them.
Adam could easily tell from the variety and the nature of these magical traces that Ryan had not been attacked by a single individual. There had been multiple assailants.
They had used different kinds of magic on him.
Adam reached out a hand. He placed it gently on Ryan’s shoulder.
The moment his hand made contact Ryan’s eyes flew open.
He sat up with a jolt a small gasp escaping his lips. He looked at Adam at Eric’s face. And a wave of profound fear washed over his own face. He took a deep shuddering breath. He looked very scared.
Adam looked at the terrified boy. His own expression was calm and unreadable. He did not show any emotion.
"I only need to know one thing from you Ryan," he said. His voice was quiet but firm. It held a power that made you listen. "Who were they? Who were the ones who attacked you last night?"
Ryan remained silent for a few long tense seconds. His gaze darted around the quiet nurse’s office. He looked everywhere but at Adam’s face. Finally he spoke his voice a low hesitant whisper.
"I... I don’t know who they were," he said. "They were wearing black clothes and it was very dark... I couldn’t see much. I couldn’t see their faces."
Adam listened to Ryan’s words. But he also observed the boy’s expression. He saw the flicker of guilt in Ryan’s eyes.
He saw the way he refused to make eye contact.
Adam knew with an absolute certainty that Ryan was not telling the whole truth.
He was either lying outright or more likely he was hiding something crucial something important. He was afraid to say who had attacked him.
Before Adam could press him further before he could ask more questions Ryan spoke again. His voice was now filled with a desperate pleading tone. "I’m sorry Eric," he said his voice cracking with fear and regret.
"But... but I can’t be a part of your group anymore. I am too weak. I can’t handle this. I... I’m leaving The New Warriors."
Adam was not surprised by this at all. In fact he had expected it. Fear was a powerful and a very predictable motivator. This boy was scared.
And scared people often made decisions like this. Adam understood. But he still needed to know the truth. This was not over yet.
