Chapter 208: 208. Annoyed
They chatted a bit in the group before Lucy and Mark both gone offline. They had to pack up and left, so they didn’t have much time to chat.
Anna looked at the chat group and sighed.
She knew that today is the day Mark and Lucy’s test but because she and Dylan were not allowed to watch, they didn’t come. Now that the two of them had passed the test, it was clear that they wouldn’t be able to see each other for a period of time.
’Well, I’ll just get used to it.’
...
Time passed quietly.
Three weeks had passed but the temperature was getting worse. No one liked to go out at all now because it was hard to go out for more than half an hour without being bathed in sweat.
It was so tiring.
People’s work time changed to before dawn to 9 or 10 and then there was a break until it was 3 PM. Because if they were asked to work between 9 to 3, they wouldn’t be able to stand it. The temperature was so freaking hot that many people were falling due to heatstroke.
Except for those who worked in the area where air conditioner could work hard to reduce the temperature, they refused to work outside. It was not worth it to get heatstroke and fell down just for a few contribution points that couldn’t make up for the water they lost.
For those who had enough contribution points, they chose to stay at their apartment and refused to get out in the slightest bit.
Anna and Dylan were the same.
While Anna spent most of her time in her apartment with her air conditioner on all the time, Dylan still went out from time to time. Anna didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t have the plan to ask.
Aside from hiding in her apartment, Anna still paid a visit to Dylan from time to time to check Kitty. The lazy cat was still as sleepy as ever and there was no change at all.
Anna herself didn’t know what happened to this cat, but thankfully, there was no other strange condition.
Her daily activity was to exercise, taking care of her plants, and also practiced cleaning up the medicine bottles. By now, almost all of the bottles she carried with her had been cleaned up with the method of only putting what she wanted into the space.
It was tiring.
But at the very least, it was worth it.
There were a lot of medicine inside her space that she would be able to use or exchange for contribution points.
It was just that Anna lacked a reason to take them out.
There were still some people who went out to scavenge for things, but their number had been reduced.
Anna didn’t pay much attention to them either.
She also received news from Mark and Lucy that they were adapting well. Aside from the fact that their training were harsh and they got nutritious food, they were doing pretty well and had started to be assigned for missions.
From the two of them, Anna also found out that there were a lot of conflicts outside of the base. Some people stayed to live outside and had found out their own method to live without relying on the bases.
They made their own small group and roamed around.
Some of them become bandits and the military would rectify them if they met. There were a lot of bloodsheds because of this.
It was horrible.
This morning, Anna heard Dylan came out of the apartment and also walked out. The temperature was still a bit hot, but it was more bearable at early morning like this. As long as they didn’t wear such a thick clothing, they would be able to bear this temperature.
"Morning, Dylan."
"Morning, Sister Anna." Dylan nodded at Anna while continue to unlock the door. His movements were very fast as if he was in a hurry.
"There’s an emergency?"
"Someone tried to steal my truck." Dylan’s lips pursed as mockery flashed within his eyes.
Their vehicles were all registered with their new base cards. If there were people who tried to take vehicles that didn’t belong to them, the scanned near the gate would ring and the gate will be closed. No one would be allowed to come out.
Security was one of the few things that have been improved greatly during this period of time, this was one of them. After all, the number of working vehicles were limited, so the cars and their number had to be registered.
Those who entered the car parking area would be noted and there were also security cameras here now.
It seemed that thanks to Dylan telling the news of the gas station back then, there were more than enough fuel in the base for them to do various things. These security cameras would also bring more safety for those who were living in the base.
"They dared?" Anna was surprised.
"Who wouldn’t dare?" Dylan shook his head. "Do you want to come?"
"Well, it’s been a while since there’s any excitement, so let’s go."
Excitement?
Dylan looked at Anna helplessly and shook his head, but he still let Anna came along. After all, she had been holed up in her apartment for a long period of time. Aside from buying some supplies in the supermarket from time to time or visiting Kitty, Dylan had never seen Anna coming out lately.
The temperature was still rising and it was now stable at more than 60 to 70 degree Celsius. It was very uncomfortable to come out.
Everyone felt that they were being cooked alive.
"How’s your plant?" Dylan suddenly asked.
"They’re alive," Anna replied. The plants were all growing well, too well in fact that Anna was surprised. It was only three weeks, but these plants were all about to mature and her living room were filled with plants.
It looked very comfortable too.
