I’m Really Scared -
Chapter 217: What the Hell is This?!
"Something's wrong! Someone has broken into Warehouse No. 3!"
A courier rushed into the office in a hurry.
Inside the office, two people were seated: an elderly man in a security uniform and a bald middle-aged man in a suit.
If Manager Zhang Xinglong were here, he would surely recognize these two individuals.
This was the Southwest branch of "Free Logistics." The bald middle-aged man was Qin Yong, Zhang Xinglong's peer and the head of this branch. The elderly man in the security uniform was the B-level elemental Esper, "Water Coffin," Fang Lu, whom Zhang Xinglong had been eager to transfer.
This guy was nearly skeletal, looking as if he was at death's door. His face was covered with age spots and wrinkles, with yellowish, cloudy eyes, loose bags under his eyes, and dark skin, making him look like a walking corpse.
He sat silently in the chair, eyes vacant.
To anyone, he looked as if he already had one foot in the grave, at an age where he should be lying on a hospital bed with a breathing machine.
"What happened?" Qin Yong stood up abruptly. "Isn't Warehouse No. 3 surrounded by alarms and surveillance? How could anyone get in?"
The alarms he mentioned were not ordinary alarms. All the surveillance and alarms were connected to a heavy weapons system that would immediately start shooting if triggered, unless someone entered along a specific path. These paths acted as de facto passwords, changing daily, known only to the warehouse staff.
"Could there be an inside man?!"
Qin Yong squinted at the reporting employee, who broke out in a cold sweat and hurriedly said, "No, no, Warehouse No. 3 is scheduled for transfer tomorrow. Today, during the handover, there was no personnel on guard, and the outer alarm system was fully sealed. But... but the person appeared out of nowhere inside the warning zone!"
"A spatial ability user?" Qin Yong's face darkened. "Another pest eyeing this shipment? Or did the seller leak information..."
He turned to the computer, pulling up the surveillance footage. The screen showed the warehouse area, where a figure wearing a clown mask and holding a long knife was cautiously moving forward, with a shadow ahead of him scouting the path.
But whether it was the figure or the shadow, both followed a specific path.
A path that perfectly avoided all alarm-triggering spots.
It was hard to believe they didn't have prior knowledge!
Qin Yong's face darkened, and he slammed the table, "Sending people over now is too late. If it's a spatial Esper, they could transfer all the goods instantly. This shipment is a loss for us..."
This shipment in Warehouse No. 3 was very special; it wasn't a Panspirit Object but a kind of spirit creature.
This spirit creature, named "Yarn," looked like a tangled ball of yarn, with each strand covered in tiny teeth. It had a peculiar trait called "Augmented."
When this creature encountered other living multicellular organisms, regardless of the type, it would replicate itself.
However, this replication only occurred once per organism.
Thus, the staff in Warehouse No. 3 was kept to a minimum, relying on the weapon system for security, strictly disinfecting, and avoiding presence in the warehouse to prevent further replication.
As long as its contact with living beings was controlled, the creature's own power was not a threat, allowing it to be captured and sold.
This self-replicating ability piqued the interest of many. If auctioned on the black market, it could fetch a fortune.
"Wait, Manager!" The employee stammered, "He doesn't seem to be here to steal the goods!"
Then what else could he be here for?
Qin Yong had just formed this question in his mind when he saw the shadow on the monitor rush straight into the storage area without a pause, then lead a "Yarn" out and cut it...
Oh right, these creatures had a strong imitation tendency, following and mimicking actions that interested them.
For this reason, they had placed an immobile toy in the warehouse to keep these creatures quiet.
But now, everything was disrupted by this intruder.
Qin Yong fell silent.
He watched the masked youth on the screen turn and run, followed by the "Yarns" trying to rush out. The halved "Yarn" on the ground grew another "Yarn" from its fallen "head."
Replication!
Fortunately, the original body died, and the "Yarn" created by contact with the masked man replaced the original, not increasing the number.
Things were still under control at this point.
Inside the warehouse, there were safety measures. Qin Yong could initiate the incineration process from the button beside the computer to ensure the "Yarns" didn't escape...
"Boom!"
The masked youth in the surveillance extended his hand downward, and the entire warehouse collapsed!
The installed circuits were destroyed along with it...
Qin Yong's outstretched hand froze in midair, his eyes glazed over, "Damn it!"
Fang Lu, who had been watching silently, suddenly leaned in, staring at the screen, "Gravity manipulation, telekinesis, or pure destruction?"
He seemed to come alive, his once lifeless eyes filled with an eerie light.
Qin Yong took a deep breath, touching his bald head, "He didn't touch the building itself, so it's unlikely to be destruction. Telekinesis or gravity... but to achieve this with telekinesis would require an A-level power. Doesn't look like it. Must be gravity."
Fang Lu murmured, "Gravity... Such a rare ability. It's been years since a gravity Esper appeared. Who is this guy?"
Watching the "Yarns" chasing the masked youth on the monitor, Qin Yong felt his career was at stake. He immediately ordered all unrelated staff along the route to evacuate.
"Who? I want to know too!" Qin Yong gritted his teeth, "Let me find out who caused this trouble... Damn, is he coming our way?!"
Qin Yong gasped, seeing the masked youth navigate the "Free Logistics" branch map as if familiar with it.
This was truly—What the hell is this?!
Fang Lu squinted, his hoarse, old voice slow and deliberate, "Bring over the staff who previously handled the 'Yarn.' Let me see just how strong gravity manipulation can be."
