I'm In Love With My Bestfriend's Billionaire Fiance! -
Chapter 45: No Middle Ground
Chapter 45: No Middle Ground
(Casey’s POV)
_________
After Jace’s outburst, Ethan sat still, looking from Jace to me, the look of confusion on his face was evident and it was clear he was trying hard to grasp the gravity of what was really going on.
"Okay, let me get this straight," he said after a while. "You both have been fucking."
"Do not say it like that," I snapped at him. "You make it sound so crude."
Jace scoffed, "What? Should he say lovemaking? It’s not like there’s a lot of love involved, is there? Not when orgasm is the only goal we’re chasing."
"Jace!" I cried in shock. "You know you’re really acting like a child right now, right?"
"Oh, you’d know that! Seeing how you know everything about everyone else but yourself!"
"You know what... I can’t do this right now!" I said as I grabbed my purse, fury pumping through my veins.
I was about to get up when Ethan spoke up, "Whoa! What the fuck? Where the hell are you going?"
"I’m leaving, dummy! What does it look like?"
"You can’t leave! You only just got here," he said as he got to his feet. "Now, you both are gonna shut the hell up and listen to me. If you understand me, nod. Don’t say anything, just nod."
Jace only shrugged.
"I said nod, goddamnit!"
The billionaire rolled his eyes as he nodded. Ethan then turned to me, however, I was still furious and I wanted to leave. At the moment, I didn’t even want to be in the same room with Jace. If he was going to be so crass and rude, then I didn’t want to be within two feet of him.
"Casey..." Ethan prodded.
With a sigh, I dropped my purse back on the table as I relaxed back onto the couch. I then nodded and looked at him.
"Thank you, now that we’re all in agreement," Ethan sat back on the chair. "So, let me get this straight, you both have been fuck... having sex... seeing each other." he kept switching up his words, causing me to raise my brow at him.
Jace and I agreed with a nod.
"But you’re not anymore." We nodded yet again, prompting him to go on. "So, is this a good thing or a bad thing?"
"Oh... it’s a good thing. A very good thing," I said before I could stop myself.
"Casey..." Ethan said exasperatedly.
"I’m sorry. But if you’ve been stuck in the same house and car as that arrogant prick, you’ll be angry as well."
"Wait... what?" Ethan turned to face Jace, "you were at her place? I dropped you off at Paragon Park last night, you left the damn estate?"
"Yeah..." Jace grunted. "Believe me, I realize how foolish a move it was now."
"Uhm..." Ethan scratched his head, "So, all those disappearances, the times when you go missing from your hotel room and you’re incommunicado, you were spending all that time with her?"
Jace nodded.
"Hmm..." Ethan looked at me, "How come I never clocked you? It never crossed my mind that you were the girl in question. But now, it makes sense. You were in the same hotel with us, you had way too many meetings together, and it didn’t matter that you were planning his wedding to your best friend."
"Seriously?" I snapped angrily as I pulled hair from my face. "Did you really have to add that fact? You think I need a reminder that Jace is getting married to my best friend?"
"Come on, Ethan, that was uncool. Even for you." Jace said.
"What?"Ethan’s eyes widened, "are you guys coming for me or what?"
I rounded on Jace, "I didn’t ask you to butt in! I don’t need you to fight my battles for me! I’m perfectly capable of answering my own damn questions and taking care of my shit."
"Oh yeah, you’re also capable of taking care of other people’s shit as well, right? You know, now I see why you and Kira are best friends, you’re both control freaks!"
I surged to my feet, "You bastard! You better take that back!"
Jace simply looked away, folding his hands over his chest as he kept mute.
I stared at him for a few seconds, then I turned and stormed out of the living room. I yanked the door open and walked out of the house, slamming the door shut behind me. I heard Ethan call my name but I ignored it as I walked down the driveway, angrily eating up the distance as my feet pounded against the hard gravel.
Soon, I was on the road. I crossed over and walked down a bit until I got to a small park for children. This morning, it was empty which was exactly what I wanted. I needed the peace and quiet. I took one of the swings and lowered myself into it. Jace’s words were resounding in my head and I just couldn’t block them out.
Was he right? Was I really a control freak? By choosing to stay away from him, was I only trying to have control over both our lives? Was I really a coward?
"Fucking hell!" I cursed as I kicked the ground so the swing began to sway lightly in the wind. I knew that I was wrong with what I had said in the car, I knew that I should never have said it. However, Jace was getting totally out of line. I knew he was hurt but all this was becoming too much, it was as if he was trying to punish me for all the times I rejected his advances. It just wasn’t fair.
As the swings kept swaying in the wind, I realized that we couldn’t keep doing this to each other. Despite what Jace had said earlier, I believed we could be cordial without wanting to beat the crap out of each other or wanting to fuck the hell out of each other.
There was so much that was at stake, so much that we had to do. This wasn’t a time for us to get distracted! This fighting and shouting was only going to cost us more in the long run. We had to work together if we were going to defeat Maven.
At that point, I sighed as I remembered our reason for coming to Ethan’s place. The reason we decided to tell him about us was so he could help us in our search for Maven. But so far, we’ve done nothing but fight and bicker like school kids.
"Fucking asshole," I stopped the swing and jumped off it. With my hands in my pockets, I walked out of the park and back into the road. I heard a catcall, but I ignored it. The creepy man said something about my ass, I considered following up on him, but I shook my head. I just didn’t have the time or strength to deal with annoying dickheads.
I crossed the road and walked back into Ethan’s house. I had been out for about thirty minutes, and when I entered the living room, Jace and Ethan were close together, engrossed in a deep conversation.
"You’re back!" Ethan said, but he wasn’t looking happy at all.
I knew then that Jace had told him everything.
"Your boyfriend just told me that you both have a stalker problem. This is why I always insist on knowing where you are!"
"I already told you," Jace said. "I’m not the one being blackmailed."
"Seat your ass down, Casey!" Ethan said curtly, I didn’t even bother to do otherwise. I simply retook my couch. He was the only one who remained standing. "You see, whatever beef you both have going on, I don’t give a fuck right now! All I know is that we’ve got a case, and if you both keep fighting, we’re not getting anywhere. So, can you just kiss and make up?"
"What?" Jace and I stared at him in horror.
"You heard me!" Ethan replied, his face was dead serious.
"Like now?" I asked incredulously.
"You’re damn right! You will kiss and make up... right in front of me!"
