Idol Revive: If I Don't Debut, I'll Disappear -
Chapter 85: Each Participant’s Choice (2)
Chapter 85: Each Participant’s Choice (2)
Most of the participants ranked under the top fifteen were from Jiji, Rayen, and Ara’s group. After Adrian, Yeon Miwol called for the ranked six participant: Zbigniew.
Mr. Big News was also among the Visual Unit participants. And unexpectedly, he went for Break Your Heart. Rayen recalled the moment he had encountered him in the cafeteria. Mr. Big News hadn’t even bothered to hide his wariness.
’Is he following Jiji because of me?’
Rayen chuckled wryly at the thought. The difficulty of this song turned up another notch again.
’Was I wrong to pick this team? And why even choose my group if they’re wary of me?’
His sponsors noticed his expression and looked puzzled. Realizing he hadn’t masked his thoughts once again, Rayen quickly composed himself.
"What’s the matter?" Harjun asked.
Rayen bit his tongue. He hesitated even more because it was Harjun who had asked.
"I, uh..." Stammering, Rayen searched for the right words. "On the first day, there seemed to be a misunderstanding between me and the two other members who just joined my team..."
"What misunderstanding?" Sophie also chimed in, curious.
Rayen’s eyes darted around the room, wary about the cameras recording them.
’If I explain it, will Plotter reprimand me?’
"If it’s hard to say, don’t force it. Just make sure to properly get along with your teammates," Harjun dismissed, realizing his worries.
’Phew...’
"Okay..." Rayen nodded in acknowledgement.
As they spoke, Ara’s name was called. She was part of the Vocal Unit and was one of the fiercest competitors during the bidding war. After some deliberation, Ara chose their unit’s second song, Beautiful Memory.
The song selection continued, but Rayen only paid attention the the people he knew, especially his former teammates. When the 11th ranked participant was called, Rayen heard Liam’s stage name.
Liam chose the first song, I and You, from the Vocal Unit.
’This guy actually secured a spot in the Vocal Unit?’
Because only the songs under their units were presented to them, Rayen hadn’t heard of their song, so he had no opinion about Liam’s choice.
After one participant Rayen didn’t know was called, he finally heard Minho’s name at rank 13th. Minho was also from the Visual Unit.
’Dude, choose Break Your Heart...’
Rayen worried about not knowing anyone in the group. If that happened, Mr. Big News and Jiji could potentially isolate him from the others.
That would be bad.
Just then, Minho’s name appeared under Break Your Heart. Rayen finally exhaled in relief.
At last, someone he knew. Even if he got isolated from the others, at least Minho knew he wasn’t someone bad.
Right after Minho, Renjiro was also called. Rayen remembered seeing his name competing in the Vocal Unit bidding war, but after the bids reached 400,000, Renjiro and his sponsors decided to back out.
Unwilling to gamble in the ambiguous Visual Unit, Renjiro tried his luck in the Performance Unit and was able to secure a spot.
After a few moments of waiting, Renjiro surprisingly chose the same group as Yeo Haru despite their earlier conflicts in the first round.
Well... It was mostly between Yeo Haru and Binh. Even though Renjiro also complained to Rayen about Yeo Haru back then, he didn’t seem to be the confrontational type.
’I hope they’ll be fine...’
As Rayen silently prayed for his teammates, his thoughts were interrupted by a name that made his stomach churn in anger.
"Rank 15, Ren. Please choose your song."
Rayen resisted the urge to curse. He really had no idea why this person targeted him. There was no bad blood between them.
That was in the past though. Now, Rayen had decided to blacklist Ren as someone he would never befriend. Even if he failed his Weekly Mission.
’Definitely not. Over my dead body!’
Ren picked the same song as Liam. Seeing this, Rayen pulled out his phone, went to his contact list and typed furiously.
[Rayen: Hey! If you feel sorry to me, do me a favor.]
If Yeo Haru could be petty, Rayen could do it too. Of course, he wouldn’t cross the line of inappropriateness.
Not long after, Rayen felt his phone buzz.
[KLi: ...]
Reading his reply, Rayen smirked. This was how Liam also responded when Rayen invited him to join them at the cafeteria. After that, Liam had shown up.
’So three dots meant "okay"?’
Thinking that way, Rayen typed again.
[Rayen: If you meet that Ren during practice, tell him I’m watching his every move.]
Meanwhile, Liam blinked in puzzlement from reading his text. He was no longer wrapped in his mummy-like cast after using "I’m Okay, I’m Fine. Teng Neng Neng" book page to heal his injury.
Not wanting to ask despite being curious, Liam sent another three dots before setting his phone aside. He sighed.
’What did that Ren do to Rayen?’
After the ranking announcement reached the 18th place, Binh’s name was finally called. He was also from the Vocal Unit, choosing a different song from Liam.
Participants upon participants were called, each choosing the song they thought would suit them. One by one, more spots under each songs were occupied by the participants’s names and portraits.
Rayen stopped paying attention after all his teammates were called, only glancing at those from his unit.
Iris, the only one from the poorly performing groups to make it into the top 20, picked the second Performance Unit song — the same one Yeo Haru chose.
’I guess that’s fortunate? At least Iris would make a better leader than Yeo Haru...’ Rayen thought.
Surprisingly, Ryeon, one of the former top five, didn’t make the top 20 in this on-site ranking. He ranked 24th.
During the first round, Ryeon hadn’t stood out much. It was a bit of a pity, all caused by their wrong song choice.
Fifteen more minutes later, all of the participants finished choosing their songs. Rayen watched as the final person that was called came from the Visual Unit too. And since only one spot remained, she had no choice but to pick I Miss Your Scent.
"Okay, everyone’s teams have been decided! Are you satisfied with your teammates?" Yeon Miwol asked, her figure reappearing on the projector screen.
Rayen stared at the five portraits and names displayed on his monitor. What could he say in response to Yeon Miwol’s question?
Sigh.
’What’s with this line up?’
There was a kid, a bouncer, and someone who was fond on looking at himself in the mirror. Well... at least there was a hard working woman.
