Idol Revive: If I Don't Debut, I'll Disappear -
Chapter 84: Each Participant’s Choice (1)
Chapter 84: Each Participant’s Choice (1)
"It’s time to choose."
The bell rang, signalling the end of the time that was given to the participants to decide their song.
Rayen still didn’t know which song to choose. Should he go for the one he could sing easily but might not suit him conceptually? Or the one he wasn’t familiar with but matched his "charm" better?
He glanced at his sponsors, seeking confirmation. Harjun noticed his gaze and also scanned the people in the room.
"What do you think?" Harjun asked.
"My opinion hasn’t changed," Sophie responded.
"Maybe as long as he could get the main vocalist part, he’ll be fine," Miles added, retracting his earlier suggestion to pick the first song.
"How sure are we that he can get that?" Harjun pressed. "Remember? We failed to secure him a spot in the Vocal Unit."
"Just like you said..." Sophie replied, looking a bit guilty both from Harjun’s words and what she was about to say. "Let’s put our trust in Rayen-chii."
Sophie exchanged glances with Rayen, leaving him speechless.
"....." Rayen scratched his head.
"Before that, though. What do you really want to perform?" Grandma Sponsor asked Rayen.
"I..."
’What do I really want?’
"Maybe I’ll take a look at the participants that would join first."
Everyone nodded, agreeing his approach was reasonable. It wasn’t just about the performance, after all. A good team was equally crucial — one where he could blend seamlessly while still standing out.
However, Rayen’s plan failed before it even began.
"The privilege to pick the song first would be given to the Most Valuable Performer from the first round!" Yeon Miwol declared.
Rayen’s meeting room turned silent.
’I thought there would be another war?! Why are you giving me a privilege when I don’t even want it?!’
He stared at the projector screen, where Yeon Miwol stood holding a cue card. Her piercing gaze seemed to transcend the screen and land directly on him. A cold bead of sweat slid down his back. The notification on the monitor before him glared, pressuring him to choose immediately.
Sigh.
Before deciding, he briefly glanced at his sponsors who were waiting for his choice. He nodded after exchanging gazes with each of them. Yuzuka gave him another "fighting" gesture.
"We trust what you want," Sophie mouthed.
Gulp.
’It’s now or never.’
Then, his finger tapped one of the titles. On the large projection screen, Rayen’s name appeared in one of the spots under one team.
"Oh, Participant Rayen chose Break Your Heart," Yeon Miwol announced.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
Sophie and Yuzuka grinned widely, clearly pleased with his choice. Miles and Grandma Sponsor, however, remained impassive. It seemed that no matter what Rayen chose, they wouldn’t react.
Meanwhile, Harjun looked surprised but kept silent. He leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable.
Rayen released the breath he’d been holding since the moment his name was called. He chose the first song not to please the two girls in the room but because he felt Break Your Heart was a song he wouldn’t regret performing.
Before Rayen died and entered this show, he hadn’t known he would enjoy dancing too. After experiencing the joy of being able to control his body freely, he hadn’t even realized he had become addicted to it. That same reasoning drove his decision this time.
’Seems like what they said was right... Getting out of your comfort zone can really make someone grow.’
Yeon Miwol continued, "The MVP won’t be the only one given the privilege though... Let’s reveal the first-round onsite rankings!"
As her words faded, she also disappeared from the screen, the rankings switching her out. One by one, the thirty-four names quickly appeared.
[1. Im Rayen
2. Ayumi
3. Xu Jiji
4. Yeo Haru
5. Navin
...]
Rayen focused on the top five names, surprised to see Xu Jiji was actually on the third place. At first, he’d thought Xu Jiji would be only second to him, yet it was Ayumi who did so. Yeo Haru was even behind him.
Surely, that would make Yeo Haru to gnash his teeth once again.
As the rankings were revealed, Yeon Miwol began calling names to let participants choose their songs in rank order.
Ayumi didn’t take too long to choose. Her name appeared under I Miss Your Scent in less than a second.
"Rank 3, Xu Jiji."
Xu Jiji didn’t respond right away. It almost took him a minute before his name appeared beside Rayen under Break Your Heart.
Somehow, Rayen could understand his hesitation. Perhaps, the little kid also thought that being sexy didn’t suit him. However, he was probably reluctant to be on the same team as him.
Rayen didn’t take offense, though. Instead, he worried about Xu Jiji being his teammate. The kid was too outstanding — it would be hard not to get overshadowed.
’I guess it won’t be easy to be on this team, after all...’
Being the fourth rank, Yeo Haru was next to choose his song. Among the top five, he was the only one not in the Visual Unit.
Since Rayen hadn’t been able to get a spot in his desired unit, he hadn’t payed any attention to the others. Additionally, only their units songs were presented for them to review.
Yeo Haru eventually chose the second song of the Performance Unit. After him came Adrian.
Rayen didn’t need to think hard to guess Adrian’s choice. This writer probably knew his strength well. So, of course, he already knew the Visual Unit’s first song was tailor-made for him.
It was just as expected. Adrian’s name appeared under I Miss Your Scent.
’Heh. I won’t be teammates with him. Thank God.’
Even though Rayen had expected this, Adrian’s choice had nothing to do with why he picked Break Your Heart instead of I Miss Your Scent.
It was purely coincidental. Really, it was just a coincident.
Rayen watched the rest of the song selection unfold as if he had nothing more to do with it.
