Idol Revive: If I Don't Debut, I'll Disappear -
Chapter 162: Main Vocalist
Chapter 162: Main Vocalist
"She’s beautiful."
That was a line that Iris often heard. It was supposed to have made someone happy, but for Iris, it had the opposite effect.
Why should she feel gratified when the word "beautiful" was meant to degrade her value?
Being beautiful, and a woman at that... the expectation to be pure and lower than a man would be the best she could be. No one really cared what she could do. The only direction their gazes would fall onto would be her face — well, sometimes her body.
But never ever her talents.
She knew. Because that was how her parents and brothers looked at her.
From when she was born, her life was already decided.
"Here, wear this."
From her dresses and corsets that made her so breathless...
’I hate this.’
The etiquette classes.
"You’re not supposed to do that!"
She recalled the heavy books that weighed down her head, and the whips she got whenever she dropped it. The experience made her back so straight, she could only look ahead even though she wanted to hide her face and just cry.
’What am I supposed to do then?’
"A woman should be inside the house, doing your chores and staying beautiful. That’s your job."
’I don’t want to...’
But Iris could only smile and not say anything. Even though she didn’t want to.
’Life is so exhausting...’
Just when she thought that way, a man came through their mansion’s front door. Oftentimes, there would be families and bachelors seeking her hands for marriage.
It was nothing new.
Calmly, she made her way to the balcony and stared at the man standing at the center of the main hall with cold and detached eyes, expecting the man to be turned away not long after.
However, when her eyes met those cunning blue eyes disgustingly paired with that grimy smile, she knew it was the end.
It was the end. No matter what she did, this path would be her dead-end.
That was the fate of her as a beautiful woman.
It might be the end for her, but she could still decide what kind of ending she would meet. And so, she chose.
Dying.
Then, she woke up on that beautiful and cold stone slab in the middle of an unknown greenhouse. Arriving at a simple lounge full of vibrant things, a bizarre machine spoke and commanded her to dance.
"Please select a song to dance."
Iris stood frozen.
"What is this thing?"
With the unfamiliar things around her seemingly like objects of witchcraft, she realized she had escaped the dead-end.
Knowing that a miracle had just occurred, she didn’t let this chance slip past the gaps in her hands. When she was offered the chance to change the way people looked at her, she grabbed that Life Book previously belonging to a man, abandoning her original gender and surname.
Now, she was no longer Iris Wyndham.
However... Why? Just why?
’Why am I still haunted by that same string of words?’
Just as Iris forcefully dispersed the unwanted memories aside, she glanced at Rayen with completely dead eyes.
...
Meanwhile, in a certain room.
The person with the username AeMist watched the live broadcast, the light on her screen illuminating her face as usual.
The ongoings within the filming that was currently happening was being live streamed on EntiTube since the public third round was merged with the private segment. Right now, AeMist was watching it with glee, oblivious to the ongoing internal conflict that was happening on the set.
Although it was called a live stream, the video was really a whole ten minutes delayed for the convenience of the production crew once something unexpected arose.
AeMist gritted her teeth when Yeo Haru was outshone by Xu Jiji, but when she saw Rayen patting Yeo Haru’s back, she couldn’t help but screech in excitement.
The evaluation continued playing. AeMist didn’t care about the other participants, so she didn’t listen well to their commentaries. But whenever the camera panned to Yeo Haru and Rayen, her eyes would sparkle, and she would always type some nonsense in the comment section.
Finally, it was Rayen’s turn to be evaluated, and the first one to appear on the screen to give his evaluation was Yeo Haru. What could be more blissful than this?
"Of course, brother deserves the part. The chorus part of a song is always meant for the main vocalist! And there’s no better vocalist in this show than him," the Yeo Haru on the screen said with a wide grin.
It wouldn’t be Yeo Haru if he wouldn’t strike a pose at the end. Raising his hand, he placed his two fingers at the corner of his eyes, making a peace sign.
The camera panned toward Rayen, ready to capture his every movement. As he glanced to the side, the camera immediately switched to Yeo Haru meeting Rayen’s eyes with a smile. AeMist immediately captured the moment.
’Ahhhhh!!! Flower Garden, I love you!’
Last week, AeMist was just feeling disappointed with the news of Rayen’s bullying scandal. And seeing that she could request something during the live broadcast on EntiTube, she went out all the way to request everything and torture the bully of her bias.
However, a few days after, Flower Garden finally issued a statement saying that the scandal was nothing but an act of sabotage. AeMist felt relieved, and this broadcast today further eliminated her doubts. Rayen and Yeo Haru seemed even closer than she thought.
...
Meanwhile, Rayen felt weird. Not just because of Iris’s dead stare but because of the feedback he received. Well... he had already heard Yeo Haru praise his voice before. But after knowing more of Yeo Haru’s petty personality, he couldn’t help but feel even more weird.
Before, Rayen didn’t really take his praises to heart. But now, he wondered. Does he really mean it?
Well, Yeo Haru’s opinion wouldn’t matter if his other teammates thought so otherwise.
Just then...
"I think... Rayen deserves it," Ayumi said.
"Rayen. He’s got the talent to make this part shine," Iris said.
"Brother Rayen," Xu Jiji enthusiastically answered.
"Red haired dude!" Xi Huan said.
A plethora of voices reverberated throughout the entire practice studio. Rayen sat rooted on his seat, staring at the faces of his teammates that uttered his name.
He blinked then glanced at his teammates. Adrian patted him on the shoulders and mouthed congratulations.
’Aren’t you one of those who wanted to snatch my position?’
Then once again, Rayen felt an intense chill coming from his side. Iris was staring at him with deadly eyes.
He didn’t need to have an ability to read faces. Rayen was already sure what she was saying in her mind.
"I gave you sincere praise, but you only said I’m beautiful?!"
