Chapter 128: Tower Climbing Begins
Chapter 128: Tower Climbing Begins
’Tower climbing?’
Rayen looked around.
’But where’s the tower?’
Everyone wondered the same. Without further ado, Plotter explained the mechanics further.
The tower would, of course, be their building. It was a bit humble to call it a tower, but Plotter insisted on calling it that. In each floor, there would be a challenge, which was kept in the dark by Plotter.
For the first floor, the participants would be given an hour to search for music sheets. Each music sheet belonged to a set. One whole set was equal to a song.
A participant didn’t have to find every music sheet for the song, though. The contents of the music sheet would be their part for the song.
That meant... they would have to form a group to complete the whole set. Then, they could only proceed to the next part once all of the music sheets for that song were gathered.
There would be three songs with eight music sheets per song. Twenty-four music sheets in total.
"But it wouldn’t be challenging without a twist," Plotter said with a mischievous tone. "Finding a music sheet doesn’t mean you automatically gain its ownership. You can still get it from others as long as they haven’t taken possession of it for more than a minute."
Rayen froze. So did that mean they could steal the music sheets from the others before that?
Plotter’s grin widened upon seeing the frown on his face. "You can use any means. Oh, except violence. After a participant gained its ownership, it could only be transferred with the will of the owner."
Plotter continued, "In addition to that, one participant can have a maximum of three music sheets."
More sheets meant more parts, but it would also leave the others without a music sheet. There might be an extra sheet, yes, but it wouldn’t be enough if someone hogs every music sheet.
"Those who couldn’t gather at least one music sheet won’t be able to advance to the next floor."
Rayen looked around as everyone did so. Some participants looked his way with sharp eyes, aggressiveness evident on their faces.
’Why are you looking at me as if I’ve already stolen a music sheet from you?’
"Let’s start the game, then," Plotter said, sticking out his tongue.
With his words, the entrance to the building flung open. After a moment of hesitation, a figure suddenly darted inside.
It was Xi Huan.
"Her" sleek figure slithered across the crowd, passing through them. As if her action was the signal, the participants also started moving. The faster they moved, the faster they would be able to scrounge around the area.
Rayen also squeezed in, not willing to be left behind.
The first floor lounge was soon flooded by participants scurrying about everywhere. The others ducked to the floor, peeking at every crook and cranny of each furniture and objects inside.
Rayen, on the other hand, had no plan to join them. Plotter had said that it was the entire floor, so that meant not just the lounge area.
Besides, with a lesser crowd, there would be a higher chance of finding something without disclosing it to others.
The challenge here wasn’t to find a music sheet, but to keep it.
’So, where should I try to search?’
Rayen gazed everywhere until his eyes landed on a particular door. After making sure that everyone was busy, he sneakily made his way towards it.
Quietly, he opened the door and sneaked inside.
This was the first time he had ever entered this room. He didn’t know what particular purpose this room had, but he had seen Plotter and the Director enter it for an emergency meeting during the second private broadcast incident.
Unexpectedly, it was quite spacious. Inside, there were numerous cubicles each with computers, numbering about twenty. Rayen searched the cubicles one by one but hadn’t found a music sheet at all.
Rayen frowned.
’Is there nothing here at all?’
As he arrived at the last cubicle, he found a single monitor just as usual. Just as he was about to leave again, he noticed something from the corner of his eyes.
He halted his steps and turned back. Squinting his eyes, he carefully looked at the corner of the monitor. There an orange light was blinking.
’Is it powered on?’
Rayen approached the computer and reached out at the corner. He confirmed his speculation when he pressed the button.
The screen brightened, revealing something that made Rayen’s eyes sparkle.
’Found one!’
On the screen, there was actually a music sheet displayed. Rayen had initially thought that the music sheet would be in the form of paper, but apparently, it wasn’t necessarily one.
Figuring he had to print the thing out, he immediately maneuvered through the computer. After clicking the print button, he heard a beep from the corner of the room.
He followed the source of the sound and found the large printer eating up one of the papers. When he approached it, he grabbed the freshly-printed music sheet immediately.
He read the title of the song.
[World of Art 3/8]
The number on the right side probably indicated which part of it was in the song. Satisfied, Rayen felt for his body to find somewhere he could tuck it in. A minute later though, the music sheet was sucked into his pocket where his phone was.
For a moment, Rayen froze, but then he realized it must have been placed into his inventory. That would be better, so it wouldn’t be seen.
Rayen proceeded to explore more. This time, he checked the monitors one by one, ensuring that he hadn’t missed any other hidden music sheets among the monitors.
He didn’t find one more.
Gazing around the room, he saw another door. He approached it and found himself in a familiar room.
’This...’
It was the meeting room back from the bidding war. So, it was actually on the first floor. Rayen entered to search, reminiscing the time back then from the bidding war.
When his gaze landed on a stack of papers on the long table, his eyes sparkled once again. He happily skipped as he made way to it.
However, just as he was about to reach for it, he heard the door behind him flung open. A set of hurried footsteps reverberated throughout the room.
"That’s mine!"
