Chapter 117: Prisoners
Chapter 117: Prisoners
In the end, the MVP for the first round was called. Her name was Ao. Thrilled by her win, she skipped happily back to her seat, which was slightly below the tiers.
The second round continued after the first performance concluded. Following a brief interlude, the next team took the stage. The members hid their sparkling outfits under black and white uniforms, except for Yeo Haru, who remained in his silver costume.
Two members particularly stood out from the group: Yeo Haru and Iris.
It wasn’t surprising for Yeo Haru. With his antics alone, he could easily gather a few eyes on him. However, it looked like his charms didn’t work that much with the neutral Entity audience. Only his fans seemed to be excited by his dramatic poses as he walked to his position.
Well, for some those Entities who weren’t impressed, Immortals were just seen as their equals. And Yeo Haru’s selling point was him being their protégé. If he couldn’t prove his worth, he was just another participant on the show.
Still, Rayen couldn’t really guess how their minds worked. He would just treat them as ordinary audiences for now.
As for Iris, she stood neatly beside Yeo Haru, exuding a gentle feminine aura. Even with a male Life Book grafted on her, she still couldn’t mask this.
Soon, the studio lights dimmed, signalling the start of the performance. Without waiting for a long time, the lights returned, illuminating the stage and the performers.
The audience cheered as they waved the show’s lightsticks.
The music began with the sharp beats of the drums, followed by the deep bass of a pipe. Its intensity was evident right off the bat.
Only one prop was at the center of the stage — a large cage-like prison. Inside, the black and white clad people caressed the cold bars, their eyes glinting in eerie lights, the corners of their lips curled into maniacal smiles.
Yeo Haru stood above the square prison, holding his fake electric guitar. As he strummed the strings dramatically, the sound of electric guitar also reverberated throughout the venue.
"Do you know how much I longed for this?
Stand atop in front of you.
I will never back down."
Just from this opening, Rayen knew... It was over for the first team. They couldn’t possibly beat this; not with how Yeo Haru was rampaging on the stage with no one holding him back.
Rayen laughed inwardly. Surely, Yeo Haru must be thrilled.
This team’s strategy was smart. In order to not outshine each other, they employed a tactic where everyone had the chance to show off themselves alone.
The parts were evenly divided.
As befitting of the Performance Unit group, everyone from the team was very good at dancing and showing off.
The black and white prisoners acted crazy. Some held red handkerchiefs between their teeth, banging their heads up and down in all fours like animals. Others waved their arms chaotically in the air.
Yeo Haru jumped off inside the cage and tossed his electric guitar to these crazy prisoners, as though he was also wishing for his teammates to break free themselves.
Like hungry wolves, the prisoners fought over the guitar, collapsing to the ground except for the victorious person.
Iris hoisted up the guitar in the air. Yeo Haru loomed behind her like a devil speaking to her ears. Together, they stroke the strings simultaneously. The prisoners on the ground lifted their four limbs as though they resonated with the sound from the guitar.
The prisoner clothes that Iris wore were also torn apart like magic, revealing the sparkling costume underneath.
She tried to strum the guitar repeatedly as if it would also break apart the prison, but it held firm.
"I can’t ever make you understand, maybe
But I’ll still tell you, I want to be
I want to be free."
Still with the strange gleams in their eyes, the two danced together, lifting one of their teammates from the ground.
The three sparkling figures repeatedly passed the guitar to each other and tried to break the prison.
One by one, the remaining prisoners were awakened to help them break free. Eventually, nobody in the cage wore the black and white outfits anymore.
Finally, the prison crumbled. The sides all tumbled down to the floor as the music reached its climax.
"Let me be! Let me be!
Can’t you see I’m enjoying the spotlight?
You’ll never know ’cause~
You won’t even step out of the dark."
Yeo Haru screamed in victory, followed by the others. His scream marked the start of the dance break, where he naturally took the lead.
One thing was obvious in this performance. Even though each member was given their own parts to shine, Yeo Haru still grabbed the lion’s share of attention.
Despite that though, his dancing style didn’t overwhelm his other teammates behind him. All were in sync, but Yeo Haru’s presence on the stage was undeniably magnetic.
Was it his dancing that leveled up? Or was it something else?
It was as though he was screaming, "Hey, this is my stage."
Maybe, just maybe... kicking Xu Jiji out of this unit had been the right decision. If Xu Jiji remained, their presence would clash onstage. Without him though, Yeo Haru owned the spotlight.
’But I still wonder just how it would turn out when these two dancers become teammates...’
Rayen glanced at Xu Jiji from the 3rd ranked chair, but couldn’t see his expression from this angle. Turning back to the stage, Rayen’s gaze settled on Yeo Haru, who was beaming at the center.
It was obvious who the MVP of this team would be.
After the performance, the studio was filled with the sound of applause and whistles. Yeo Haru had proven at this stage that it wasn’t just because of Immortals that he was a popular contestant of the show.
Yeon Miwol emerged from backstage to oversee the MVP voting. And as expected, it was Yeo Haru who won.
The results for the unit competition would be announced later, once all of the votes were tallied and computed.
As for the next competition, it was finally time for the Vocal Unit.
