Chapter 101: Eavesdropping
Chapter 101: Eavesdropping
Pia’s mouth held a slight pout as she contemplated hard. "What can I say... only four of you seemed to have understood my meaning from the past lessons."
She held back some words to not sound so harsh, but she still couldn’t help but look at the member who hadn’t been exceptional during the performance this time.
"Zbigniew’s face looked stiff while dancing..." Pia added, sighing in disappointment. "You’re on the Visual Unit... Have you forgotten about it?"
The big guy looked down.
Everyone from the team was bound to stand out. Even he was supposed to — with his big body in contrast with his cute face. However, he wasn’t able to make use of it at all.
"Do you know who dominates the stage the most?" Pia asked, not only Mr. Big News but everyone.
She didn’t wait for anyone to answer though and answered on her own.
"It’s those who have good facial expressions," she added. "I don’t know why you look so uncomfortable, but you should realize — even with editing, it wouldn’t help you fix your expressions just now. Tomorrow, you’ll have a hard time with the filming if you can’t fix this."
"Understood," Mr. Big News said.
With a sigh, Pia wanted to say something again. "From your presentations too, I could sense that you’re feeling awkward. Didn’t I tell you to always be confident? You’re cute. Be confident, okay?"
Mr. Big News nodded, but could only smile awkwardly.
The mini interim evaluation had ended. Vance and Pia stayed to precede the rest of their training session. Sometimes, Ms. Pia would give Mr. Big News a few tips for his problem, but he didn’t seem to be able to do it.
In the end, the two trainers had to leave to go to the other teams they’re also assigned to oversee.
The team continued practicing though, focusing on the little details that Vance suggested.
If Mr. Big News wasn’t so big, the others would only have to slightly adjust some details. But because he was too big, he made Xu Jiji even more smaller.
Xu Jiji wanted to cry upon this realization, but he did his best to think of a solution. He had the most idea out of everyone else with his high dancing skills.
The first solution they could think of was that when either of them was in the center position, one would be slightly away from the other. That way, the contrast with their heights would be less noticed.
Additionally, Xu Jiji might have to purchase shoes that could elevate his height. He had tried purchasing a book page to increase his height, but it would still take time to see the effect.
Then, lastly the others would have to make their gestures bigger to match Xu Jiji’s stature. This one was a bit harder, but with a few more practice runs, their bodies would remember it unconsciously.
Xu Jiji also added a touch of his style to their dancing. Down to every details, even to the way they lifted their fingertips.
If Rayen’s dancing skill had stayed at the D level, surely, he would be overwhelmed already.
Just as they finished another run of the adjusted choreography, Mr. Big News requested to take a break.
Everyone agreed. They had already ingrained every little details. A mini break wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Shoulders visibly relaxing, Mr. Big News headed toward the mirror wall and started to practice his own facial expression.
Rayen could glimpse just how awkward Mr. Big News’s smile was as he watched from the side while gulping a revitalizing drink. (He wasn’t as stingy as back then since he had so much money right now.)
Xu Jiji also noticed his big brother’s struggle and sat beside him.
"Brother, do you need help?" Xu Jiji asked.
Watching, he imitated Mr. Big News’s awkward expression. Mr. Big News noticed this, suppressing his laughter.
"You should smile that way!" Xu Jiji explained.
The smile on Mr. Big News’s face froze. "T-This way?"
Xu Jiji pursed his lips in disappointment. "No... You just smiled genuinely just now. Not like that."
Question marks seemed to flash on Zbigniew’s face. However, Xu Jiji didn’t explain anymore, instead he only pouted as he lowered his head.
Fidgeting with his fingers, Xu Jiji’s innocent voice spoke again, "Brother, I’m sorry if you’re having a hard time right now. I know you’re a good person, but you need not follow me here..."
Mr. Big News flinched. He stared at Xu Jiji in bewilderment. "What are you talking about?"
"You always worry about others, and you kept on shielding me from the... bad participants," Xu Jiji explained, somewhat reluctant on the last part.
Rayen who was eavesdropping nearby flinched.
’Am I one of the bad participants?’
Pretending to not hear anything, Rayen just played with the empty bottle in his hands.
Xu Jiji’s answer once again left Mr. Big News stumped for words. He scratched his head, seemingly embarrassed. "To be honest, I didn’t follow you here..."
"Oh, is that so? Then I just worried for nothing, then," Xu Jiji said, no longer fidgeting nervously.
Mr. Big News thought the truth would make Xu Jiji ashamed, but he didn’t expect the kid to just dismiss it nonchalantly.
Still, he clarified his stance to not make Xu Jiji feel bad. "You know, I have a niece back home... I protected you because you remind me of her, but I think you’re more capable than her though."
"I also have an older brother. But he’s not as big as you. He’s often sick, so I’m the one who always protected him." Xu Jiji said with a laugh, then as if he thought of a good idea, he leaned closer to Mr. Big News. "I’ll share you my secret for having good expressions on stage."
"How?"
Rayen also leaned closer to hear.
"You should feel the song. That way you won’t look like you’re just acting." Xu Jiji smiled widely then glanced back at Rayen. "Do you have something to add too?"
Rayen nearly jumped out in surprise by the sudden address from Xu Jiji.
"Me? Oh..."
’I’ve been noticed...’
He was eavesdropping because he wanted to practice his team skills and level it up by "listening". Although Rayen knew, it wasn’t this type of listening he had to do, but he realized just how dense he was from the first round, so he wanted to listen and observe every details around him.
But unfortunately, he was caught. With the two people — big and small — staring at him, Rayen had no choice but to think of something too.
A thought struck his mind. There was something that his sponsors had told him before. With a serious look, he faced the two of them.
It was simple. Unconsciously, he had been abiding by it too. Starting from doing something he didn’t like — dancing, joining this cute visual unit, and with everything he had done out of shame.
"Sell yourself."
