Chapter 100: Mr. Big News’s Big Problem

At 5 AM the next day, two people entered the training room. They were taken aback as they were greeted by the team already practicing inside the training room.

Not only that, but the training room was a mess.

There was a woman with brown wings flying around the room, a big man covered in multi-colored scales singing out loud, and a man surrounded by flowing fabrics exchanging lines with a small angel holding a bow.

The only normal-looking person in the room was the one with an intricate handheld mirror.

’Where are we? Why does it look like we just entered another dimension?’

"What’s this?" Vance blurted out.

After hearing the familiar voice, everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at the two people that just arrived.

"Good morning, Mentors," they greeted respectfully.

"Why’s everyone dressed so... oddly?" Pia asked, still a bit flustered.

"We’re trying to familiarize ourselves with our costumes and their effects," Minho explained to his sponsor.

"Oh..." the two exclaimed.

Since the recording of their music video will be tomorrow, they decided to practice hard today.

Rayen turned off the scenery changer using the remote control and awkwardly draped himself with a sweater.

No matter how much he tried it, he still couldn’t get used with this costume.

If only his sponsors could see him, they might be have eaten their words about Rayen being sexy. The added visual charm really did him justice. Even Pia Welch’s gaze repeatedly landed on him.

"How’s your assignment?" she asked, forcefully prying her gaze away from him.

After presenting their assignments to her one by one, it was finally Vance’s turn. He would be assessing their performance now.

Although Vance had always been present everyday for two hours during their training session, he mostly only observed them, refraining on making any comments as long as they didn’t ask.

Everyone went to their first formation.

Unlike the first round, they only had to memorize the choreography given to them for the music video.

There were too many matters to consider that Rayen wasn’t even sure if they had practiced enough. It was too much even for him who was used to a high-productivity state from his previous life.

With the song starting to play, the first one to start singing was Mr. Big News. His big body towered everyone, the husky voice that left his mouth started serenading them.

With his singing skill being amplified to the S rank by his costume, the way Mr. Big News sung was almost hypnotizing.

However, compared to Rayen, it seemed like there was something missing. He wasn’t like Rayen who could execute singing techniques with ease and sounding more natural that made the listeners all feel goosebumps rising. Mr. Big News’s voice was hypnotizing, but it sounded hollow.

’So, is this the difference between genuine S rank and having their skills elevated with book pages?’

Still, Mr. Big News’s above average dancing compensated with it. Even Vance didn’t say anything and just watched silently.

Rayen and the others danced to the song according to their memory. The good thing was: as Rayen had ranked up his dancing skill, he was able to memorize the choreography much faster than before.

One day was enough for him. Now, he didn’t make any mistake, able to dance freely to the song.

’I guess, I’ve really come a long way...’

As he moved to the choreography, Rayen watched everyone executed their parts successfully.

Minho, even though his skills were on the average side, didn’t falter too. He was the only one with the most normal looking attire out of everyone, but despite that, he didn’t let the others outshone him.

His primary skills had been stuck at C rank. Rayen didn’t know why it hadn’t advanced since then, but perhaps his ranking mission was just too hard that’s why it stayed that way.

However, Minho also knew that. So, instead of brooding over with his shortcomings, he just focused on the aspect he could be proud of — his visuals.

While rapping, he not only did it with precise pronunciation and flow, but he would always flash a breathtaking smile every now and then.

Rayen’s first vocal line also came. With a strange glint in his right eye, the Eye of the Beholder that he was wearing sent the details of himself to his mind.

Observing those images, Rayen adjusted his facial expression according to the meaning of each lines he sung. He was able to execute it so perfectly that even he, watching himself seemed to be charmed with his expressions.

’This is really too awkward...’

Despite feeling that way, he kept his smile on his lips. He was only able to do this with repeated practice.

At first, he felt disoriented with the two visions, unable to keep up with everything that was happening. Oftentimes, he stumbled even while simply walking, earning some good laughs from Adrian. But as he tried to finish Ms. Pia’s assignment, he was also able to practice his expressions for a bit.

He practiced and practiced until he could maintain each expressions on his face even when his attention slipped during dancing.

While singing at the center, he noticed Ms. Pia smiled with satisfaction.

After he finished his line, Nana’s voice took over. Their formation also switched, with her taking the center position.

Nana sung just like the sirens from the myth. Although only slightly inferior to Mr. Big News’s singing stat, it was still amplified five times too. Not only that, her aloofness seemed to disappear when she took the stage. Instead, a cheerful and playful expression appeared on her face.

Then, she sent a flying kiss to the two audience before handing over the center position to the next member. Leaving with a gush of wind, her wings only added to the illusion as if she was flying to her next position.

This time, it was Xu Jiji’s turn. This part was when he would exchange his rap lines with Rayen, so Rayen was also dancing along beside him.

Afraid that the same thing would happen as the first round with Yeo Haru, Rayen always paid attention to Xu Jiji’s dancing throughout their performance.

His worry was in vain though. Unlike Yeo Haru, Xu Jiji was a better dancer.

When they added each other as friends, Rayen peeked at this little kid’s stats and was nearly blown away.

Xu Jijii’s dancing stat was even higher than Rayen’s singing stat by one level. That meant, Xu Jiji was proficient on switching his dancing style according to the movement of his teammates.

Apart from that, what even made Rayen envious was Xu Jiji’s other skills. Aside from his production skills, most of his skills were of B rank. It was truly so balanced that Rayen’s uneven skills were put to shame.

Xu Jiji was also considerate. Whenever their mentors were out, he would teach the others some tips in dancing.

’Truly a good kid, unlike Yeo Haru.’

Xu Jiji winked at him as though it was part of the choreography. With those simple gestures, Rayen felt like it was Xu Jiji who was leading him instead. He happily exchanged lines with Xu Jiji.

’I always forget not to underestimate this kid...’

With the first part of the song now over, Minho began the second verse with his own rap line.

Gulp.

After Minho’s part, it was Rayen’s turn. This rap line was supposed to be Xu Jiji’s, but Vance had erased his name and replaced it with Rayen.

The enhancer Xu Jiji bought didn’t solve the problem entirely. After he bought it, he tried to reclaim the part, but it was still too long for him. The enhancer only helped him have more vocal control, reducing the frequency of his voice cracking, but not entirely eliminating it.

Stuck in a dilemma, if Vance made Minho rap these lines too, he was afraid Minho would make a mistake as it would make his part much longer too.

So in the end, he thought Rayen would be a good fit for the song. And he wasn’t mistaken. Even though Rayen was a bit nervous, he was able to rap the lines flawlessly.

’S ranked singer, heh. Even rapping isn’t a problem.’ Vance thought.

The demo performance continued until the last line of the song without anybody making a mistake. But Rayen didn’t let himself relax yet.

He recalled from the first round, he also felt satisfied with their performance, only to be met with harsh criticisms from the sponsors.

Breathlessly, everyone waited for Vance to say something. Both the mentors were deep in contemplation.

However, Vance only said, "All’s good. I guess, I’m really not needed here. This team has both the best singer and dancer, after all."

’What? That’s all?’

The team members all looked at each other. Xu Jiji’s lips already bore a smile.

"Dancing and singing wise, everyone did good. I have no problem with it. Just adjust some details. Your problem only lies with your uneven heights." Vance said.

’Heights?’

Rayen looked beside him, particularly at Mr. Big News and Xu Jiji.

Vance continued. "Those taller should adjust their movements and match the smaller members, so it’ll look better. I think you understand it even though I don’t explain thoroughly."

Xu Jiji and Mr. Big News nodded.

"That’s all. Though, I think Pia has something to say."
