Chapter 37: Awake

Arc 2, Chapter 37 — AWAKE.

.

.

Silent Night... Holy Darkened Night...

All is still, but shadows bite.

In a cavernous egg-shaped expanse, a young man lay motionless with a peaceful face.

His chest was bare, his only attire being a pair of loose, baggy and airy pants.

His abs were defined, every ridge a perfect indication of his exquisite physique.

"Mmmm..."

The boy furrowed his brows in waking vigilance.

Then, his eyes—sharp and predatory—slid open with a glint of wariness.

’Where am I?’

He did not stir beyond that initial motion, his body remaining perfectly still.

Only his gaze moved, sweeping its reach across the immaculate room he now found himself in.

Picture an ant at the base of an egg.

That’s how Levon felt within the oval, immaculate room that left much to the imagination.

The enormous room was bare, with nothing but a few beds strategically positioned across the space.

The air was crisp and sterile, and the walls looked to be a seamless expanse of polished white.

But maybe the most shocking thing in the room, crawled far above him on the tippy center of the oval ceiling.

’How peculiar...’

Levon felt he had never seen any light fixtures like these.

Overhead, were several amoeba-shaped panels that pulsated, as though they were living microorganisms with individual thoughts of their own.

{*** Amoeba is a shapeless single-cell organism that moves by extending and retracting its ’false feet’. So to put it simply, these panels were shapeless and pulsated in similar ways.***}

"Don’t move." Someone unfamiliar spoke.

Then almost immediately, Levon had a feeling of being boxed.

What did she do to him?

Levon’s chest was puffed out, and his entire body now straightened and firmed, like a puppet controlled by strings.

Yes, strings... that’s the word.

Holding him in place were several thin, near invisible strands that glistened under the light like finely spawn silkworm thread.

Levon had no doubt that if he resisted, these threads would be able to slice through his body like tofu.

But who? Who controls these strings?

From the voice, he could tell it was a woman.

.

.

Fheuuuu~

A thick whiff of smoke clouded Levon’s vision.

Then he heard the slow approaching footsteps of the woman in heels.

It was fascinating how thick the smoky film grew in a matter of seconds.

The smoke created a mirage, allowing Levon to see only a curvaceous silhouette approaching.

With the sway of her hip, the figure moved with unintentional grace, confidence, and nonchalance.

—And when the figure finally stopped before him, Levon raised his eyes to meet her cold dark brown pupils that reflected ruthlessness, intelligence, and inquiry.

Fheuu~

She blew out another mask of smoke, masking his vision even more blurry.

"You’re late, Sleeping Beauty." Her voice was lazy and unbothered.

The smoke had dissipated a little, and there stood a stunning woman with the same uniform as Roud. Except her uniform consisted of a skirt rather than pants... a short skirt one pair with thigh-high skin-colored sheer stockings.

In addition, she wore a white lab coat over her uniform, highlighting her crimson red long nails, and red heels even more.

On her right hand was a cigarette; and as for the other hand, she used it to casually control the thin threads keeping him in place.

’Interesting...’

Levon’s eyes flashed. How can a human spin webs from their palms and fingertips?

Without moving an inch or saying anything more, she flicked2 fingers up, and up Levon went.

~Whoosh!!!

It happened so fast, Levon hardly had time to prepare.

"Breathe, you’’ be just fine." She advised, taking one long take on her cigarette. "Just fine... But then again, what is the definition of Just Fine?"

"_"

Levon had black lines on his face, seconds before getting absorbed by the strange light panels above the ceiling.

He was WRONG.

They weren’t light fixtures at all!

They were shapeless balls of bright goo and fluid that moved like an amoeba cell.

Dammit, will he really be okay?

As he flew what was probably 4 stories high, the strange things also dropped from the ceiling to meet him halfway.

~Poof!

Levon was shot into the ball of squishy, washy goo without mercy.

It felt like he was in a washing machine.

Now levitating 5 stories high in the massive glob of goo, Levon held his breath while getting swished and checked.

Then, after what seemed like an eternity, he was released, dropped several feet high without hesitation.

Levon fell with a chuckle, finding it amusing how such a thing would be disgusted by him after being done with him.

"They’re slimes," the woman spoke once more, flickering her fingers to form a web that caught Levon’s fall.

"Contamination slimes—They feed off infection and disease. However, they’re not all omnipotent. Some things, they just can’t clean up."

Like Vampire Contamination.

"Here, put them on."

The woman threw him a few garments.

’This should be my uniform.’ Levon concluded.

His uniform was black uniform with NO stripes lined all through the edges.

Bottomline, it was stripe-less.

"Villeta... Villeta Von Bismarck." The woman introduced.

Levon didn’t know it now, but he was standing face to face with one of the Order’s most dangerous and well sought after medics, and a Department Head.

With one hand, she could kill... and with another, bring the dead back to life.

Many would feel fortunate and greatly blessed to even see her from afar.

Do you know how hard it was to even get a glimpse of any Department Heads in the Order?

It was like finding a needle at the bottom of the ocean.

If Levon knew this, he would definitely feel weird after knowing he had seen Roud, Sayoko the little girl, and now Villeta.

But as they say... the strong control the so-called coincidences in this world.

So why was she here with him?

"Levon Belmont... Do you know how long you’ve been sleeping?"

Very slowly, Villeta approached Levon inquisitively.

She would have said he was useless trash not even worthy of being used for toilet paper.

However–

Villeta slowly looked to the slimes above.

Something about them changed since his time here... something that has never happened before.

She could never forget the reaction her many slimes of different grades had when treating Levon these days.

It was unbelievable that an un-awakened human could bring about such change when not even she or anyone else in the Order could.

Alright...

Villeta’s eyes shone with an unprecedented light.

’Levon Belmont, is it?... You have my attention.’
