Lillian stared at her calmly before shrugging.

She took another sip, then answered:

"Change of taste, y'know? I just now like the bitter taste of coffee more than a calming tea."

She could also say that having an entire identity fusion and several life-threatening moments could serve as a way for someone to undergo massive change.

But...

She wasn't going to say all that at the risk of worrying her mother even more and peaking her suspicion.

Lowering her cup to her plate, she looked towards Millis, leaning the side of her face into her palm.

"How'd you find this match, Millis? I think beside that little accident, you had some fun."

"Ya bet! Besides that forest trip and our little drinking session on Reph's birthday, this was the most fun I had!"

Lillian nodded but was then met by a curious and puzzled look from her mother.

She then heard her ask:

"Drinking session?"

The corner of Lillian's lips twitched.

'Ah... I guess I didn't tell her about the time I got drunk.'

Lillian, going on about it, was immediately met with a judging glare from her mother, whose grip tightened around the handle of her cup.

"... Drinking now, are you?" Her mother's face twitched, her voice becoming menacingly deeper.

"You sure have changed since coming here, Lillian... You hadn't ever stepped near alcohol, even if you were dying to know what it was like."

Lillian gulped heavily, feeling the brunt force of her mother's concerned stare.

She raised her hands in the air in a surrendering manner.

"I-I had Marionette with me... I was going to be fine."

Her mother then directed her gaze towards the Assassin, who stiffened a bit as she paused mid-way through drinking her own cup of coffee.

Veronica placed her elbows on the table, resting the bottom of her chin on the back of her fingers that were interlocked with one another.

She then took on a much gentler tone.

"My dear... You didn't perhaps influence my Lillian into consuming alcohol did you?"

Marionette slowly lowered her cup to her plate and reached into the air for a napkin that suddenly appeared.

After patting her lips with it and storing it back in her spatial storage, she glanced towards Lillian, seeing her eyes tremble.

She looked into her eyes and nodded before turning back towards her mother. After a moment of silence, she answered:

"Lillian drank all of it voluntarily without my influence and got intoxicated because of it." She said with blunt honesty before returning to her coffee under Lillian's bewildered look.

The Assassin could've just said the first part and be done with it. But the fact she had added the part where she became intoxicated... Lillian couldn't believe it!

Lillian hastily whispered:

"Y-you didn't have to add that last part!"

Marionette glanced at her, then blinked playfully. She smiled and gestured towards her mother.

Lillian stiffened, slowly turning towards her mother, who was shaking her head disappointedly at her.

"You can drink. But only a little..." She then placed her fingers against her forehead, "I can't believe my little girl got drunk..."

Lillian pouted, folding her arms like a child.

"I'm eighteen! And is getting drunk sooo... bad?"

"It is!"

***

After their session in their cafe, the three bid Millis farewell as she went back to her dorm.

Lillian and Marionette had also bid farewell to Veronica as they left her in Lillian's room.

The reason?

CLANG!

They were out sparing again in the simulation.

Lillian and Marionette clashed in the centre of a forest, a typical arena they had come to grow quite fond of sparing inside.

And as they were sparing, they made conversation as well.

"It's going to be the start of the second part of the tournament tomorrow. How do you feel?" Lillian groaned, enduring another swift strike.

Marionette shrugged, lashing out her dagger and striking Lillian's odachi, which remained as heavy and long as ever.

"Not worried. Unless the academy were hiding their much stronger students for later competition, I don't believe we have anything to worry about."

She then twisted around, delivering a side-kick to Lillian's chest plate, knocking her back a couple of metres.

Lillian, watching as a crack formed on the surface of her chest plate, glanced up, discovering the Assassin's swift approach to her.

She sent back her odachi and summoned her shortsword before striking the ground beside her.

Marionette lunged, stabbing her knife forward, but missed as Lillian was knocked to the side by her sword's recoil.

She blinked and unsummoned her dagger, summoning a particular handgun she was given as a gift.

Lillian, having landed on the ground with a roll, groaned as she muttered:

"Okay... Maybe more practice..."

Standing up, she watched as Marionette unhurriedly pushed out the cylinder of her gun and began to load its slots with bullets of intimidating size.

The Assassin seemed to be admiring the gun's dimensions before inevitably aiming the barrel towards the Rabbit.

BANG!

Lillian widened her eyes before transforming her head into water, avoiding a lethal shot through her skull as the bullet passed through where it was previously.

She reformed it back into its previous state and watched as Marionette cocked back the hammer of the gun.

She then heard her hum and mutter:

"Not bad."

BANG!

At the sound of the gun firing, Lillian immediately transformed her upper body into water. Feeling something passing through her body, she quickly morphed her body back to its original state.

With a downward slash with her sword, she launched herself past the trees behind her.

Marionette, feeling the cylinders in her gun spin and rotate to the next chamber, watched as Lillian hid herself amongst the trees. She let out another hum, noticing slight glimpses of the girl.

She then tilted her head, feeling something passed beside her face.

Time slowed as she saw what went past.

A blade of water.

And more came, but from every other angle.

Her face remained expressionless, but within her eyes, a dark reflection appeared in her eyes—a reflection filled with amusement.

Her body twisted at unnatural angles, effortlessly dodging the deadly projectiles with nimble haste as they sliced through the air.

She then leapt into the air, dodging a wider blade that aimed to bisect her in two.

All the blades that had been avoided went off to cleave through the branches or bodies of trees behind her.

As she spun around to prepare for her landing, she noticed something glint in the corner of her eyes. It was yet another blade of water.

She twisted her body in the air, intending to dodge it casually again. However, unlike the projectiles before it, this one was much quicker and sharper, too, as it seemed to blur and stretch through the air.

Marionette landed on the ground, having dodged it...

But not completely.

The Assassin raised a hand to the side of her face, gently pressing her fingers to it before bringing it before her eyes.

She stared at her fingers, finding them to be slightly dyed in red.

Lillian... Had managed to injure her.

This was progress!

Marionette's cold face turned bright as a smile stretched across her face.

And then...
