Chapter 488: Chapter 488 I Disagree (2)_1
When Chi Yao said as much, no one could refuse.
The voting was naturally anonymous, and the results were quickly tallied up. The votes for Chi Mu reached sixty percent of the attendees.
Chi Yao had anticipated this outcome because he had been incessantly courting these shareholders and giving them lavish gifts recently. His intention was clear: he wanted them to do him a favor and vote for Chi Mu.
Having the voting results in his hands, he immediately looked at Han Jingnian. "President Han, as you can see, the majority of the present shareholders and executives believe that Chi Mu is capable of this position. What do you think?"
Han Jingnian said nothing.
Chi Yao remained silent too, subtly signalling a particular executive with a look.
The executive instantly feigned casualness and piped up, "According to our company’s longstanding rule, anyone who has been voted on by shareholders and executives is essentially confirmed."
Immediately, a small shareholder also chimed in, "Right, this has always been the rule, and we don’t have any suitable candidates now. It’s not ideal to leave the position vacant, so I think we can give Miss Chi a try."
"I have no objections, up to President Han."
"President Han, shall we finalize it?"
"..."
Han Jingnian remained silent throughout. He let everyone present voice their opinions. When everyone had said almost all they wanted, and all eyes were on him, waiting for his decision, he lowered his eyelids slightly. Dropping the gold pen he had in his hand onto the table, he leaned back in his chair and finally opened his lips, "You all agree?"
"I agree."
"I also agree."
"I have no objections."
"President Han, it’s your decision."
"..."
As everyone in the room was generally expressing agreement, the conference room door was suddenly pushed open: "I disagree."
The voice was clear and melodious but powerful enough to make everyone turn their heads toward the door.
Only Han Jingnian, after hearing the voice, trembled slightly, picked up the folder in front of him, and used it to cover his face.
Under all the eyes in the room (excluding Han Jingnian’s), Xia Wan’an, looking calm and composed, walked in wearing high heels.
The sound of her high heels clicking on the floor could be heard. As Xia Wan’an got closer to the conference table, someone snapped back to reality.
"Who is this?"
"Why don’t I remember her? Moreover, we’re in a shareholders’ meeting. How can she just barge in?"
"This seems to be Director Xia from the Design Department, the female director who was promoted recently... "
"Sister-in-law?"
Amid all the murmuring, one voice attracted Xia Wan’an’s attention.
Looking toward the sound, she recognized a young man in a white suit whom she had seen once before... She had met this man on the day Eileen defected when she went to Han Jingnian’s office on behalf of her grandmother. He had asked her who she was then, and Han Jingnian had answered, "My wife." But, when he was about to introduce himself to her, Han Jingnian brushed him off by saying, "She does not need to know your name."
Faced with this shareholder – whose name she did not need to know – greeting her, Xia Wan’an, not knowing how to address him, simply returned a smile and greeted him with a "Hi."
