Feeling a subtle shift beside him, Han Jingnian, who was having a conversation with Zhang Te, immediately turned his head towards Xia Wan’an: "What’s wrong?"

As he spoke, he took Xia Wan’an’s hand into his own: "Did it burn you?"

Xia Wan’an shook her head: "The water isn’t hot anymore..."

Han Jingnian remained silent. But he took a handkerchief from his pocket, and carefully dried the water droplets on the back of her hand.

Xia Wan’an let Han Jingnian wipe her hand. She stared at him for a moment, then hesitantly turned to glance in Chi Mu’s direction.

The arrogance on Chi Mu’s face had long since disappeared, and her eyes revealed obvious traces of suppressed jealousy and resentment.

Towards this reaction, Xia Wan’an curved her lips into a harmless sweet smile.

Observing Xia Wan’an’s smile made Chi Mu’s expression even more rigid. From the perfectly drawn brows, resentment flickered in her eyes.

Xia Wan’an smiled even brighter. She didn’t bother to glance at Chi Mu again and started chattering with Han Jingnian in hushed tones.

In between, Han Jingnian excused himself to go to the restroom, and Zhang Te, getting called over for a toast, left to greet someone.

Left alone, Xia Wan’an, out of boredom, propped her elbows on the table and rested her head against her hand, half-asleep to pass the time.

It wasn’t long before Xia Wan’an started hearing giggles emanating from the seats behind her. Without checking who was there, she could tell that they were a group of girls. They had probably not noticed her and were discussing her.

"Who is that woman with Han Jingnian?"

"What are you thinking about?"

As Xia Wan’an was lost in her own world, hugging her pillow, Han Jingnian came and sat down next to her.

Xia Wan’an regained her senses and gave Han Jingnian a glance. Then she noticed that the seats behind her had grown quieter than before.

She figured that probably the girls had seen Han Jingnian and eventually closed their mouths.
