Chapter 398: Chapter 398: Don’t drink so much cold alcohol, have some hot water (2)_1
Just as her fingertips were about to touch Han Jingnian’s arm, Han Jingnian picked up a glass of warm water from the table next to him. Then he brushed past Chi Mu, and walked up to Xia Wan’an while everyone watched. "It’s a bit cool outside tonight, don’t drink so much cold wine. Have some warm water."
Xia Wan’an gripped the edge of her wine glass tightly, her hand slightly trembling. She looked dreamily into Han Jingnian’s deep eyes for a moment, then slowly nodded her head.
Seeing her response, Han Jingnian immediately reached out and took the wine glass from Xia Wan’an’s hand and replaced it with the warm water. His fingertips brushed against her skin, feeling the chill to which he softly asked: "Why are your hands so cold? Have you been staying outside in the cold? Shall we head back now?"
Chi Mu’s hand, misdirected by Han Jingnian, was left hanging in mid-air.
She stood there as if immobilized, staring at her fingertips for a while, then slowly turned her head to look behind her.
Gazing upon the usually aloof and proud Han Jingnian, who was now leaning slightly towards Xia Wan’an, speaking softly, resentment gradually flooded her eyes.
She knew that he had always been indifferent to her. Yet, on her coming-of-age party, when she requested him to dance with her in the same manner, he reluctantly agreed and danced with her to signal from Mrs. Han. Despite it lasting only a few minutes... he had publicly humiliated her today, in front of everyone, for that woman!
The atmosphere was slightly awkward. Even for Chi Mu with her good temperament, she was no longer able to maintain her smile, until her father, Chi Yao, seeing the situation, stepped forward to mediate.
"Xiao Mu, Jingnian has to accompany his friends tonight, so it might be inconvenient for him. I will dance the opening dance with you..." Saying this, Chi Yao took his daughter’s arm and stepped onto the dance floor.
Chi Mu, who was trained in dancing, stood gracefully in the middle of the dance floor, an eye-catching figure. As the melodious music played, she danced like a blossoming red rose, enchanting and passionate.
Soon, she managed to capture everyone’s attention, making them forget the awkward and unpleasant incident with Han Jingnian just moments prior.
As the dance concluded, thunderous applause resounded in the open courtyard of the mansion.
Chi Mu, with a smug smile, elegantly left the dance floor arm in arm with Chi Yao amidst everyone’s admiration, like a proud swan.
Having settled in place, she appeared to be talking to her father but her eyes kept drifting towards Han Jingnian.
Her frequent glances were clearly noticed by Xia Wan’an, who was sipping warm water from her glass.
Chi Mu boldly stared back at Han Jingnian, even though she was being watched by Xia Wan’an, her gaze intense and full of passion.
Chi Mu’s predatory gaze made Xia Wan’an uncomfortable.
It was clear that she was provoking Xia Wan’an...
Xia Wan’an pursed her lips and, pretending to be unintentional, tilted her glass slightly so that some water spilled onto her hand. Pretending to be shocked, Xia Wan’an lightly exclaimed.
