Chapter 999: An enemy of the law

Chapter 999: An enemy of the law

"So, what now?" Tiger inquired as soon as Dominic entered Moose’s office. "We can’t just do nothing, especially now that Hera is no longer in Heaven’s body."

Dominic stopped in his tracks, casting Tiger a look. "Take a seat," he said, trudging to the set of seats in the office. As soon as he sat down, he glanced around and furrowed his brows. "Someone’s missing."

"You mean Alexander?" Moose also sat down, slamming a handful of documents on the small coffee table in the middle. "He left."

"To where?" asked Bear, who had been sitting on the same couch Fig was sitting on. "Why did you let him?"

"Initially, I thought my only job was to make sure he didn’t die," Moose explained. "The guy had been bothering me every second of every day. So, I let him do what he wants to do. He’s old enough."

Moose paused, snapping his eyes back to Dominic. "But now, I’m partially relieved I let him."

"Did he go to her?" Dominic asked, getting the gist of Moose’s insinuation.

"Yes." Moose nodded. "I don’t know what Deborah had been telling him, but he was too determined to save Hera."

"Do you think she needs him?" Fig chimed in. "If Hera and Heaven switched bodies, that means... we didn’t need to rescue her. She would come to us on her own."

"She will." Tiger sat down on the one-seater couch across from Dominic. "But knowing her, going back here won’t be her priority."

"Hera had been vocal in her thoughts about being in her original body," Dominic followed up. "I’m not saying she won’t come back, but Hera hasn’t heard about our plan."

"What plan?" Moose furrowed his brows.

"You don’t know?" Tiger hissed, only to hear Bear’s explanation.

"We didn’t tell Moose because we want him to focus on nursing her back to health." Bear cast Moose a knowing look, and the latter didn’t seem to mind being left behind with the plan. He was too busy with Heaven, after all.

"I hadn’t heard the plan," Fig remarked. "Any explanation on why I hadn’t heard it until now?"

"About that, you got to ask Tiger," Bear answered. "I told him to pass the message."

Tiger cleared his throat. "I forgot. Too busy recovering."

"Or too busy with Miss Wei." Fig shook his head but didn’t prolong the topic. "So, what is this plan?"

Instead of answering, Bear slowly shifted his attention to Dominic. Seeing that Bear was looking in Dominic’s direction, everyone also set their eyes on him.

"In the past several days, Dimitri had sent out people to kill me," Dominic started. "I was even surprised that he had a few prosecutors and politicians under his payroll. They were trying to stop my inauguration."

Dominic detailed what they had been doing ever since they landed in their home country. The very next day Dominic landed, he had already lost count of how many accidents he almost had. Aside from the few people in power he met, he had to use force to make them talk or do him a favor.

There were even attempts to tarnish his unblemished reputation; articles about some tax issues, labor issues, and even inappropriate business operations almost reached the mainstream. If not for Axel catching those articles beforehand, Dominic would arrive in the country with a mountain of controversy.

In other words, not only his life was in danger the closer his inauguration was but also everything he worked hard for. The Zhu family, the Lyon Group, and Dominic himself. People who didn’t want him to get the position almost looked like they joined hand in hand, pulling any tricks they could.

"So far, everything is under control," Dominic continued. "I was able to regain control of the political system because of the information I hold. Releasing information about Dimitri and his syndicate warranted protection by the Interpol and FBI. The Central Intelligence is still under investigation because of Wolf, but they were willing to participate to arrest these criminals."

"The bottom line is because of me, Dimitri and everyone I hadn’t named for the sake of keeping their cooperation had me on their hit list." He paused, explaining further details in the simplest form he could. "The authorities also wanted Hera Cruel."

Tiger hissed as he punched the armrest. "Those bastards just won’t let her be, even when she’s dead, huh?"

"They already knew she was alive," Dominic answered, earning everyone’s interest. "I guess it’s one of the reasons Ram agreed to Dragon’s offer."

"You think Frank announced to those guys she’s alive?" Tiger gasped. "Why? That doesn’t make sense, especially since she’s in his custody."

"Unless he’s not the one who did it," Fig chimed in, processing the information carefully. "Telling the entire world that Hera is alive won’t do Dragon any good. But aside from him, who else knew about Hera being alive?"

"Dimitri..." Moose whispered, and Dominic nodded.

"They already knew she was alive before I earned their attention," said Dominic. "Hence, her documents being retrieved from the archive."

"How come Wolf didn’t know that?" Tiger deadpanned. "Were they given a tip?"

"Most probably," Bear spoke. "From what we heard, the Interpol received a tip about a mole in the CIA. So, they had been very careful about the matter. Considering Hera had once infiltrated their headquarters in the past, raised suspicions as well. Matter of fact, all international government agencies had been careful even for their own people. If a mole was planted in the CIA, then there’s no telling if there are also moles in FBI and Interpol."

"This is insane," Tiger breathed out, shaking his head and resting his arms over his legs. He held his hands together, rubbing them as he pondered.

"The only reason we got this information was because of Dominic’s connection and the trust he garnered from his connections," Bear added. "I can’t say thankfully, but somehow, Axel was keeping up with this news as well. He said Heaven camped in the Secret Floor for a few days and seemed to be interested in this type of matter. So, he digs deep about it to impress her."

"I don’t know if that would impress her, but he impresses me for sure." Moose nodded in approval. "Should we let him in?"

"No." Dominic shook his head. "My wife will kill all of us if we drag him into this. She’s like her firstborn."

"Axel might’ve impressed me as well and he had been useful, but letting him in is also a means of putting his foot in his grave," Tiger agreed. "By the looks of it, he knew his limitations. So, I don’t think he would be in danger."

"That’s right." Bear nodded. "Axel still acts like a spoiled young master, which grants him an advantage. Blatantly putting him in the spotlight will also be disadvantageous to all of us in the long run."

"Anyway, since everyone already got a gist of where we currently stand, leads us to my main point." Dominic cleared his throat, waiting for everyone to look in their direction. "On my inauguration day, everyone is expecting Dimitri or even Dragon to make their move. Before or during."

He paused, eyes glinting sharply. "I said all of this to tell you that you don’t have to worry. I have all these people looking out for me, so... you got to take her back. As much as I hate it, at the end of the day, she’s a felon and an enemy of the law. My protection only applies to me and my family; it doesn’t apply to Hera Cruel."
