Chapter 949: Auto pilot
"You’re next."
Romnick involuntarily held his breath as soon as he read what Heaven mouthed. For the first time, he felt fear and panic swirling in his chest. Even his gulp resonated in his ear, looking away and setting his gaze on the windshield.
"Drive," he muttered solemnly. "As fast as you can. Don’t let her catch up or... we’re both going to die."
The driver, who had been yelling since earlier, couldn’t help but cast Romnick a quick look. Although he had been panicking, it surprised him to hear Romnick say such a thing. However, he didn’t have plenty of time to wonder or entertain this surprise.
They both knew that the woman was crazy.
The driver clenched his teeth, hissing as he refocused his attention on the road. Glancing at the rearview mirror, the driver huffed sharply as he got an estimate of the distance between them and the escort car behind them.
"I didn’t ask to die today," was the only thing the driver said as he channeled all his energy into driving at full speed.
Both of them didn’t wonder how that woman was able to get out of her car and jump into the car ahead of theirs. Heaven was crazy. Just as Romnick mentioned, she was the one who controlled this situation. She was the person who would decide where this situation was heading and right now, they grasped her next plans.
Them. She would kill them.
As if they would allow that without a fight.
Meanwhile, Romnick and the driver weren’t the only ones surprised at this turn of events.
In the sedan that Heaven was originally driving, Hera and Dragon blanked out momentarily. Moments ago, Heaven was driving like crazy and even crashed into the rear of the escort car ahead of them. They both thought Heaven would force the escort car off the road — just like what she had done to the previous one.
However, Heaven simply kept the front of the car as close as possible to the next car in front of them. And then, after a few moments, Heaven grabbed her sword and rolled down the window. She then climbed out and made her way to the hood of their car. When she got on her footing, she ran and jumped to the car ahead, plunging her sword down into the passenger seat.
Everything happened in a short time frame that even her passenger barely grasped the situation.
’Oh, god...’Hera stared at the car ahead with wide eyes. ’She really went there —’
Her breath hitched as a realization suddenly struck her. Heaven left them and the driver’s seat was empty.
"What the hell is she thinking?" she wondered in panic, and somehow, that question snapped Dragon back to the current lapse.
Dragon blinked and lowered his head, checking Heaven, who was on top of the car in front of them. When he turned to Hera and then to the empty driver’s seat, his eyes shone brightly.
"Hah!" he huffed, clenching his teeth as he dragged himself in the front. "What the hell is she thinking, leaving us behind?"
The corner of his mouth stretched, telling himself this was his chance. Did Heaven think that if she left them, they would just wait for her to come back? No way in hell would Dragon wait for his doom to come.
"Stop! What are you doing?" Hera grabbed his arm as he pulled himself in between the driver’s and the front passenger’s seat.
Dragon stopped, turning his head in her direction. Without saying a word, he aggressively flung his arms away, subsequently slapping her with the back of his hand and tossing her back.
"Shut up, Hera!" he roared. "If you think I’d let that woman insult me over and over, you’re wrong. Once I get out of here, I’m going to kill her first before anyone else."
Hera held her cheek, glaring daggers at him. When Dragon dragged himself to the driver’s seat, Hera jumped to him and hugged his waist, trying to stop him from taking charge of the car.
"Stop it! I won’t let you!" she yelled through her gritted teeth, holding on to him tighter. Dragon tried to get rid of her hold, even digging his nails into her arms to peel it off of his waist. But Hera didn’t loosen her hold.
"Hera!"
"I won’t let you escape!"
"Stop it!" Dragon grumbled, grasping her arm and removing her arm from him. "I said stop!"
When Dragon managed to free himself, he tossed her arms back and pushed her away. Sitting back down in the back seat, his eyes almost turned red in anger.
"Hera, I’m this close to hurting you again," he warned while pinching the air. "Shut up and stop now."
Hera pursed her lips, his hold imprinted on her arm, but the fire in her eyes wasn’t extinguished. "No!" she yelled again, jumping to him to stop him before he could get in the driver’s seat. But this time, Dragon didn’t hold back.
Extending his arm to her shoulder, he pushed her back and launched a powerful punch into her stomach. Hera’s breath hitched as she hunched in, clasping his arms to stop him despite the pain that erupted in her stomach.
"Damn it," Dragon breathed out, glancing at her grip on his shoulder. "Even in this state, you’d stoop so low to stop me. Surely, I’m having doubts about you now, Hera. You’ve become so fucking useless."
Dragon unremorsefully pushed her away, staring at her curled up in the corner of the backseat. Disappointment shone in his eyes, clicking his tongue in irritation. Without any interruption anymore, Dragon squeezed himself through the driver’s seat.
"Stop..." Hera forced out a breath as he settled in the driver’s seat. "It’s futile. Don’t... I’m not coming with you."
Dragon looked back and felt even more irritated. Even in that sorry state, she wouldn’t stop protesting.
"Tch," he hissed as he set his burning eyes on the windshield, placing his hands on the steering wheel. "That bitch... she’ll regret leaving us in here."
With that being said, Dragon switched gears and put it in reverse. His eyes glowed with hope as he stepped on the pedal, thinking this was his chance to get away. But alas, the moment he stepped on the pedal, the car kept driving ahead.
"Huh?" Dragon furrowed his brows, gazing down at the steering wheel and letting it go. This time, he noticed that the steering wheel was moving on its own — or rather, the car was moving on its own.
That very second, a person’s name came to his mind.
"Joker," he breathed out, almost laughing in mockery. He then looked up at the car ahead, face twitching in irritation. "So that’s what she was asking him to do, huh? Haha."
Dragon laughed within, running his hands through his hair before punching the steering wheel to vent his anger. "Fuck!!"
