Chapter 909: Mission One Complete
[Somewhere in Sorrento minutes ago...]
"Tch." Tiger lay flat on the surface of the stair landing. His one eye shut and the other on the scope of a sniper rifle. "No, I changed my mind. Give me that motherfucker’s coordinates."
"Don’t be nonsense." The voice from his earpiece was Heaven, guiding him of the situation in Dragon’s mansion. "Don’t forget what this mission is for."
Tiger clicked his tongue again, irritated that killing Dragon was so close, yet the circumstances rendered him helpless. He was told that all the people they were looking for in Dragon’s custody were outside the manor. If only Heaven would give him Dragon’s exact position, he could kill him right here and now.
"Hey," he called after noticing the prolonged silence from the other end of the line. "Is everything okay? You suddenly went quiet."
"Uh."
"Uh?" Tiger arched a brow at that suspicious, short sound he heard from the other end of the line. "What’s going on?"
"Nothing." By the tone of Heaven’s voice, it seemed she was partially amused or surprised at something. "It’s nothing."
Despite the strange tone laced in her voice, Tiger put it behind him. There was no point in pressing on the matter, thinking it was probably not that important. If it was something noteworthy, she wouldn’t hesitate to tell him after all.
"That little fucker," Heaven hissed, almost chuckling at what she was seeing. "Tiger, be ready. They won’t take Leo anymore. They’re going to kill him now."
"Huh?" Tiger furrowed his brows, confused.
"I think you should change location," she advised and then gave him the exact distance and location of his target. Since Tiger was quite far from the target’s location and was expecting to help the other team once Leo was in transit, he was in a position where he could shoot the enemies on their way out.
"I can’t change location." Solemness laced his voice upon hearing the exact location of his target. "If I do, I have to drive to the next town."
"Are you saying you can’t help?"
Tiger pulled his head from the scope and pondered before tilting his head once more and peeking through the scope. "I can try from here."
"You only got one shot," she said. "I don’t need you to try it, but do it. If you miss, Leo will die."
"He can die for all I care."
"..."
"Joking," he remarked blandly. "The distance is one thing. Tell me the structures from my position and the target."
Hera stayed quiet for a few seconds and then summarized all the infrastructure between Tiger and his target. Normally, it was Joker’s job to give Tiger a device so he could see the general map of the area. However, since the man was unavailable, Heaven was doing a good job of walking him through the situation.
"Can you do it?" she asked after giving him the summary of what he needed to know. "Tell me if you can’t. I’ll do it."
"Nah." Tiger carefully adjusted his sniper rifle according to the information he had gotten. "Just sit there and wait. Tell me about Primo and Wolf’s status?"
"They’re on the way — close, but they won’t make it in time." Her answer was quick and precise. "Heaven Liu already bought us a lot of time, though not enough. They needed more time. A second or two can suffice."
Tiger didn’t answer immediately as he moved his sniper rifle less than a centimeter to the side. Given the coordinates, even a millimeter from where his weapon was could change the entire course of his mission. Therefore, he took his time to position his weapon in the exact place before he spoke again.
"So, that’s why you sounded a little taken aback earlier, huh?" he remarked, positioning himself with his other eyes peeking through the scope. "You saw Heaven Liu in your body. Was it that strange to see your body without you in it?"
"It’s strange," she replied almost nonchalantly. "Seeing my body and face is one thing, but watching her kneel and beg is another."
"Pfft—" Tiger bit his lips and held his breath, almost laughing out loud at the thought. "Fuck! I almost pulled the trigger! Don’t make me laugh, oy!"
Heaven, on the other end of the line, shook her head mildly. Was there another reason for her to be taken aback, if not for that? For sure, everyone who knew her would find it strange if they saw what she just saw.
It was pure horror and partially comedic. Not that she couldn’t understand Hera’s (the real Heaven Liu’s) intentions. However, it was still strange to see her actions while she was in Hera’s body.
"Now that makes me wonder what else that woman did while in your body," Tiger mused as he calmed himself. "I should’ve gone with them just to see you kneeling and begging."
"I’m not interested in knowing what she had done while she was in my body. Considering I did all sorts of crap while in her body, I think that’s just fair. Moreover, she survived this far and for her to last this long is already admirable," she replied calmly. "Anyway, are you ready?"
"Yep." Tiger shrugged a bit, already in position while chatting with her. "Any changes in the target’s position?"
"Just a bit. Two full steps to the side."
"Two full steps..." he repeated in a hum, shifting the direction of his sniper while feeling the slight breeze from the slightly ajar window.
"He’s going to behead him." This time, Heaven’s voice dropped upon catching the axe the executioner was holding. "Not even the sharpest axe..."
Tiger remained silent even after hearing her last remark, already grasping what she meant by that. Considering how sadistic Dragon was, it was no surprise that he beheaded someone with the dullest weapon. It was so his target wouldn’t die immediately.
What a truly wicked man.
Silence hung in the line as neither of them spoke for a moment. When the silence was broken, Heaven ordered under her breath.
"Take him down."
The second the last syllable rolled out of her tongue, Tiger unhesitatingly pulled the trigger. The sniper barely made a sound as it released a powerful and special bullet, which flew from building to building, keeping its velocity and syncing in the direction of the wind. And just a matter of less than a minute, it hit the executioner’s head.
"Headshot," he mused, while staring at his watch. "Mission one complete."
