Chapter 860: Until he’s sick and tired
"I don’t understand why you’re looking at me as if you’re staring into a monster."
Ivy gulped nervously, hearing it echo in her ear. Even though Dane claimed to be someone else and spewed all of that, she couldn’t help but take it as nonsense at the back of her head. How could she simply believe such a drastic change?
She knew Dane from the moment he started working for Dominic and pursued him just over a year after meeting him for the first time. She felt she knew him intimately, perhaps more than anyone else. After all, she put her heart and soul into knowing him—to the point that her feelings almost appeared like an obsession—just so she could impress him.
But alas...
What was this? Who was this man right now? For sure, this wasn’t the same man she fell in love with. If anything, despite the familiar face, she could barely recognize him. Right now, all she could feel toward him was hostility and fear.
This was definitely not the Dane Zhang she knew.
"What are you planning?" she stuttered, eyes fixed on him as if spellbound. "Why did you take me here?"
"Simple." Dane tapped the armrest mildly. "What’s the point of letting you go?"
"What?"
"Miss Wei... I mean, Ivy, it’s your fault." His eyes drooped dangerously. "When you came to me that day, confessing your admiration to me, I thought what an interesting turn of events. Rejecting you the first time was fun, and watching you smile despite the rejection was amusing. Although I admit there was a point where you annoyed me, I found myself waiting for your next move and anticipating what kind of silly idea you came up with."
"It’s your fault that you stuck in my head," he continued, rising from his seat and marching toward her.
As he approached, Ivy took a step back. Her knees wobbled, and her heart skipped a beat due to fear. When Dane crossed her personal space, Ivy immediately turned around to run away from him. However, even before she could, a hand grabbed her arm and spun her back.
"How cute. Were you just trying to run just now?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. "Why, Ivy Wei? Do I scare you now?"
Her pale lips quivered. "Please..." she stuttered under her breath. "Let me go home."
"Home?" he blinked. "This is your home now, Ivy."
"What?"
"It was true; it was all fun and games for me at first, but then I started rejecting you with you in my mind," he confessed, tightening his grip around her wrist. "I was only thinking of you, Ivy. I didn’t want you to be stuck in a situation where you’d regret being with me. However, you didn’t see my efforts and went to such an abominable man."
Ivy clenched her teeth as her eyes shone. "Don’t call him that."
"Hah." Dane scoffed, assessing the look on her face when he mentioned Tiger. "What an expression. I only said the truth about that animal, but look at you, ready to make me pay for it. How annoying."
"Dane Zhang!"
"Dimitri," he corrected in a knowing tone. "Do I have to leave you an impression so you’d know to start acknowledging my existence?"
Ivy ground her teeth, keeping her gaze locked with his. "No. This is enough to leave an impression, Dimitri." A ridiculing laugh escaped her gritted teeth. "Abominable? Animal? Hah! True. Tiger has a unique way of speaking, and the words that come out of his mouth sometimes make me wish he just keeps his mouth shut."
"However, between you and him, he’s much better. You’re no match," she continued in the same ridiculing tone. "At least Tiger had never deceived me. He had always been honest, even when he knew the truth might hurt himself. He acted like a real man instead of hiding behind an entirely different persona."
"Compared to him, you are nothing but a coward, Dimitri," she added with a taunting laugh. "And I’m glad you had your fun rejecting my pure intentions. If not, I would’ve entirely regretted that I had given my all to a man such as yourself."
A moment of silence fell on their shoulders, eyes still locked with each other. After another second, the corner of Dane’s lips curled up into a smirk, eyes swirling with amusement.
"Then you should start regretting your actions starting this very second," he mused, leaning his face closer. "That’s why I said blame yourself, Ivy Wei. You shouldn’t have worked so hard to get my attention because now, using Tiger and playing with him, you’ve finally succeeded."
Her heart thudded as it sank, breath hitching until her neck turned taut. "I’m not... using him." Her complexion turned even paler until she looked as white as a sheet.
"Since you claimed you don’t mind being in danger, then I see no reason not to keep you," he remarked with a satisfied smile, pretending not to hear her last reply. "After all, it hasn’t been long since the last time I rejected you. I’m sure I still hold a space in your heart."
"You’re sick." Her voice shook, but despite her harsh remark, Dane maintained a smile.
"If I don’t have any place in your heart anymore, then I’d just reclaimed my original place. No problem. Perhaps I’ll conquer all of it," he continued as if he didn’t hear her. "If I were you, I’d work hard to clear up some spaces for me and forget about everything behind. After all, this is your new home now, and life until I’m bored and tired of you, Ivy Wei."
Ivy felt her heart sink deeper, hearing all those words from him. This man wasn’t joking. She could see and feel his sincerity in his remarks, and for some reason, she instinctively felt he would succeed if no one intervened.
Just as the silence reigned in the dark lobby they were in, a sudden ’bam’ from the door shattered it. Ivy flinched while Dane smirked.
