Chapter 858: Castle
Chapter 858: Castle
Meanwhile...
A soft moan echoed in the quiet room as deep lines appeared between Ivy’s brows. Opening her eyes, she blinked and blinked until she got a better view of the room she was in.
"Huh?" Ivy propped her elbows against the bed, sitting up in the middle. She looked around at the grand room, catching some interesting furniture adorning it.
"Where am I?" she wondered to herself, holding her head as it throbbed. "What happened...?"
Ivy furrowed her brows as she recalled the last memory she had before waking up in this place. As she did so, the creases on her face faded.
"That’s right," she whispered, holding her hand to her chest. "That’s what happened."
Her lips opened and closed like a fish, remembering everything that had happened. Before she lost consciousness, Ivy remembered screaming her lungs out as some bad guys were chasing after them. She remembered Dane crashing into one of them, fighting the people while driving. She remembered getting instructions from him, so they survived together.
However, when they finally managed to shrug off their pursuers, the last thing she remembered was Dane telling her something. Her brain was still foggy on the things he said at that time, but what she was certain was that she lost consciousness after Dane touched her nape.
Ivy massaged her nape, feeling a little ache in it.
"Why did he do that?" she wondered. "And where is this place?"
Ivy looked around the grand room once more. No matter how she looked at it, this place was something she wasn’t familiar with. This wasn’t a hotel for sure. Flinging her legs out of the bed, she marched toward the curtain and pulled it to the side.
She squinted her eyes at the sudden light, opening it wider when her eyes adjusted to it. Deep lines appeared once again in between her brows. All she could see from this view were trees.
"Are we at the top of a hill?" she asked herself, holding her breath.
It was still around mid-day or perhaps close to evening. With that thought in mind, she assumed it wasn’t long since she lost consciousness. While Ivy mulled over it, she furrowed her brows.
"Right," she murmured, looking back again. "Where is he?"
If she was in this place, that meant Dane took her in this place. Wherever they were, she knew Dane took her to a safe place. Perhaps this was one of Dominic’s secret rest houses? Considering Dominic liked peace and silence, it wouldn’t be surprising if he purchased a property in the middle of nowhere.
"I have to know what’s going on and also..." Ivy marched toward the door, balling her hands into a tight fist. ’If I was attacked, we have to reach out to Dom and let them know that Tiger might be in danger.’
Her eyes blazed with determination, assuming what happened had something to do with Tiger. Before coming to Dom, Ivy suddenly lost contact with Tiger. Now she was certain that something had happened to Tiger and that those people who were chasing after them earlier wanted her for whatever reason because of her relationship with their target.
As Ivy marched outside the room, she was met with a long hallway. Looking from left to right, her brows knitted.
"What is this place?" she wondered, turning to the right, as that just seemed natural. This was an unknown and unexplored place for her. But even so, she was certain she would reach her destination either way. One route might be longer, though.
As she waltzed through the hallway, she couldn’t help but think this place was like a palace. A real palace with a slightly modern touch. Either way, it still maintained the original elegance of the place.
"This is so unlike Dom," she murmured.
Being friends with Dominic for a long time granted her the knowledge of Dominic’s preferences. They were also business partners in some way. Therefore, knowing his preferences occasionally would come into play in some of their talks.
Shaking her head, Ivy shrugged off whatever unnecessary thoughts she had. Since she imagined this place was bigger than she fathomed, she started yelling;
"Mr. Zhang?! Are you in there?" Ivy saw a door and knocked on it, opening it to check if Dane was there. When she didn’t see even his shadow, Ivy continued her exploration. She went to different rooms; some of them had another connecting door inside. Thus, she explored those areas as well.
After fifteen minutes, Ivy felt like she was in a maze. How could a place be so huge? In her mind, she couldn’t help but criticize Dominic. Even if Dominic had the money to purchase a castle, why would he do this? It was more like a waste of money. Not to mention creepy regardless of its elegance.
"Mr. Zhang!" she yelled once more when she finally found her way to the main hallway. "Mr. Zhang?! Where are you!? I think I’m lost! This place is so huge!"
Ivy repeated those like a chant, but the only response she got was the echoes of her voice. When she made a turn, her eyes lit up upon seeing the end of this seemingly endless corridor. Ivy almost skipped her steps, rushing to the end of the hallway.
As expected, the hallway led her to the grand space on the floor. Her steps slowed down, approaching the railing to see what was downstairs. She placed her hands on the railing, looking over it, only to see a vast entryway of the place.
"No one’s there," she whispered, frowning. "Did he leave me?"
The mere thought she was all alone in this huge place brought creeps under her skin. Shaking her head, she slapped her cheeks to get herself together.
"It’s okay. I know Mr. Zhang. He wouldn’t leave me all alone in such a place without a word." She nodded, convinced Dane was just around the place.
With that thought in mind, Ivy took the stairs to see if Dane was on the floor below. She assumed she already explored the floor she came from. At least fifty percent of it. Thus, going downstairs sounded right.
Just as Ivy reached the last few steps of the stairs, she paused. Turning her head, she caught Dane sitting on one of the couches, deep in thought.
"Mr. Zhang?" she called, looking around and noticing that all the curtains were closed, which made the place a lot darker. When her gaze returned to Dane, she asked. "Mr. Zhang, where is this place? Are you okay?"
