Chapter 840: Betrayal
"If you’re only going to tell me things that I already know, then I advise you to conserve that energy instead. I don’t plan to stay and look after you forever. Go back to sleep."
Hunter clenched his teeth, perplexed by Fig’s apparent lack of urgency. But if the man already said he knew about Hera’s situation and still hadn’t done anything, then there was nothing Hunter could do. As Hunter was about to find a comfortable spot on the bed, he looked back at Fig one more time.
"I’m going to say this in case you didn’t know yet," he said quietly. "I had this secret device installed in my cufflinks. It’s that small. Something one wouldn’t notice immediately. It’s a device to alert my boss about my situation. We can only use it one time."
Fig cocked his head to the side, this time curious. "And?"
"I used it at that time." Hunter relaxed his body on the bed, eyes on the ceiling. "That time I knew I was in trouble. But no one came to help."
"Your boss... who is he again?"
"You probably know him." Hunter looked back at Fig leisurely. "He uses the alias Ram."
Another moment of silence befell their shoulders as both men looked into each other’s eyes.
"You’re saying?" After another moment, Fig narrowed his eyes slightly. "He betrayed you? Ram won’t do that."
"I think he did." Hunter looked away once more, sighing. "I didn’t tell Deborah because I wanted to save her from the disappointment. But during my stay in the torture house, I kept thinking about it."
He paused, recalling that time Dragon ambushed him. "I’ve worked for Dragon, and even though trust is a foreign concept for us, he relied on me enough. I spent a lot of time with him. So, I’m confident until that night, he sees me as one of his own."
"Are you saying Ram snitched on you?"
"Months ago, Dragon and the president had been in negotiation," Hunter continued as tears suddenly rolled down his temple. "I could tell that Dragon was extra careful in approaching the president, and the president was the same. Because they couldn’t agree on one thing, the negotiation had been in a deadlock for a few months now."
"But recently, Dragon hadn’t been taking me to his important meetings. Instead, he told me to guard the mansion. At first, I thought he had done so because of Hera Cruel. But the more I think about it, the more it becomes suspicious. Unless he found me out — which I’m certain isn’t the case — then someone else probably requested it," he continued solemnly. "That’s what I think. Mister President... seemed he shook hands with him already. The first step to building this alliance is to gain each other’s trust. Exposing my identity and mission is the first step."
This time, the silence that dominated the room was far more distinct and loud. Fig kept his gaze on the man lying on the bed, mulling over the man’s story.
"I don’t know if this information will help, but I laid it out there just in case." Hunter slowly closed his eyes. "After all, if the President joined hands with Dragon, this added power is something even I can’t imagine. Very well. I’ll rest, just as you advised."
Silence immediately followed his sentence as Fig didn’t say anything afterward. All Fig did was stare at Hunter until the man was breathing heavily. Slowly, he placed his hands on his leg and pushed himself up. Walking toward the window, he stood under the moonlight, eyes on the darkness his vision could reach.
"I wonder," he whispered, shoving his hands inside his pocket. "What he is planning this time?"
The drawbacks of Hera’s absence were becoming increasingly apparent. Although some of them knew that Hera was in Heaven Liu’s body, it was still different if she was in her own shell. There would be more proper order if only Hera was in her own body.
"I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s more convenient if she’s in her own body."

Meanwhile...
Armed men spotted a plume of smoke in the distance as they approached the area. Moving cautiously towards it, they halted. Their eyes fixated on the raging fire consuming a cabin in the forest clearing.
"He found us out!" shouted the first person who was leading the group. Turning his head, he motioned his hand in the air. "Search the area. He can’t have gone far!"
"Yes, sir!"
The armed soldiers fanned out, forming smaller groups. Some plunged back into the woods, while others scrutinized the clearing, vigilant for any sign of their target. Unbeknownst to them, Primo wasn’t reckless enough to linger after setting the cabin ablaze.
He ran. As fast as he could.
Primo darted through the woods, determined to put a considerable distance between himself and the approaching group. As he sprinted, he recalled the brief glimpse he caught earlier when sneaking away from the cabin.
’What’s going on?’he wondered while racing through the woods. ’Since when did Dragon get a hold of a country’s military power?’
His fleeting observation was enough for him to reveal the group’s professional training. These weren’t mere underground operatives; they were military-trained. Primo had assumed a soldier’s identity before. Thus, he easily recognized the mark of military discipline.
’That woman!! Did she purposely leave that detail behind?!’ he clenched his teeth in irritation, thinking that Heaven left out some important details like this. ’If only I knew, I wouldn’t — damn it! Or was it Dimitri? Did that guy somehow become so powerful like a military general —’
His thoughts halted when a faint whooshing sound reached his ears, heat grazing his shirt sleeve. As he darted behind a tree, smoke billowed from its trunk, his eyes widening. Looking back, he cursed under his breath as he spotted someone aiming a rifle at him.
Uh-oh.
"Found him!"
’They caught up so soon?!’ he mentally screamed, picking up speed as shots echoed through the forest.
