Chapter 838: In the past, I was the main character.

[Old Cabin]

"Why are they rushing me?" Primo clicked his tongue, standing beside the bed. His bag lay on it, the laptop thrown inside. "That damn Heaven Liu really knows how to piss me off."

He snapped his tongue in irritation once again, raising his brows as his gaze fell upon the documents scattered across the bed. He stared at them for a moment before picking them up and marching outside the bedroom, straight to the fireplace.

Though it was still early afternoon, the fireplace was already lit. Time in this forest seemed different; he’d learned that on his first day in the cabin. Thus, even though it was early, he’d already lit it, as doing so later would have been challenging.

"I hate her, but if she goes down, everyone, including me, will go with her." Primo tossed the documents into the fireplace, nearly extinguishing the fire with the stack of papers. In seconds, the flames blazed as they devoured the papers.

"How bothersome," he murmured. "In the past, I was the main character. But now, my life lies in another person’s palm."

Primo watched the papers turn to ashes. When the fire was halfway through, he shook his head and turned around, heading back to the bedroom. Without wasting time, he zipped up the bag and slung it over his shoulder.

Moments ago, Heaven had called him. The call was brief; she only instructed him to prepare to leave before ending it. She hadn’t provided details, but her tone had conveyed the urgency of the situation.

"I hate to say this..." he whispered, surveying the small bedroom. "... but I’ll probably miss this place."

Ironic—perhaps laughable and silly.

This cabin was definitely the smallest place he had lived since joining the underground. However, nothing left a significant memory like the peace in this place.

"Though I don’t think I would come back. I hate the memory this place gives me..." he trailed off, his ears perking at a faint rustle. His gaze shifted to the window, all sentiments vanishing from his mind. His expression turned solemn and dark.

"So..." he whispered. "... they found me, huh?"

Primo closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and, upon reopening them, turned on his heel, marching out of the bedroom.

"I’m sorry, Miss Liu," he murmured on the way out. "I don’t think you’ll find me alive if I wait for you here."

Primo halted as soon as he left the bedroom, turning his head to gaze at the fireplace. His throat moved up and down before he huffed.

"Kyah!!!" Ivy screamed, clutching the handle with her eyes shut. The sudden drift of the car pressed her against the door, a violent thud echoing through it.

Meanwhile, Dane kept his focus on the road. He had just collided with a motorcycle on the passenger side.

"Are you okay?" he asked, but Ivy’s continued screams provided the answer. "I guess you are."

Shaking his head slightly, Dane redirected his attention to navigating the situation. He drove in the opposite direction from their original path, slowing his breathing. The cracked windows made it challenging to see the road, so he relied on glimpses of the surroundings.

"These people..." he muttered, spotting cars emerging from side roads to pursue them. "This is not good."

A glint flashed in his eyes as he gripped the steering wheel tightly, shutting out distracting thoughts. He stole a quick glance at Ivy and realized these pursuers weren’t aiming to abduct her and use her as leverage; this situation was different, yet strikingly familiar.

As Dane drove, his phone vibrated against his chest. Ignoring it initially, the persistent buzzing made him pick up the call without checking the caller ID.

Upon answering, Dane heard nothing but deep breaths.

"Motherfucker..." After a pause, Tiger’s breathless voice emerged. "Damn... that old man really got me good."

Tiger touched the side of his head and inspected the blood on his palm, wincing as red fluid covered his head and neck.

"Shit," he cursed. "He should’ve retired quietly."

Listening to Tiger’s complaints, Dane’s focus sharpened. While still attending to the situation, Tiger’s words raised another concern.

"Dane Zhang." Tiger’s voice cleared after a pause. He reclined against the couch, fixing his gaze on the ceiling and contemplating his next words. "Or should I call you Dimitri? You fucking conman. Run, or I’ll break you myself."

Dane held his breath, his jaw tightening. Gripping his phone, he deduced that the old man Tiger referred to was someone he’d placed in the town to monitor those trying to uncover his identity.

"Where is he?" Dane asked, his voice edged with tension.

"Who? The old man?" Tiger lazily glanced at the corner of this bedraggled office, focusing on someone there. "He’s dead, obviously."

Dane exhaled heavily, having suspected as much. He checked the caller ID; unsurprisingly, it was the old man’s number.

"Dimitri," Tiger muttered. "You’re finished."

"I don’t think so," Dane retorted, stealing a glance at Ivy in the front passenger seat. "It’s too early for you to say that."

Ivy, no longer screaming, looked at Dane with trembling lips, surprised he was conversing on the phone in such a dire situation.

"Mr. Zhang," she spoke shakily. "Is that Dom? Are they sending help?"

Dane smiled briefly at her before refocusing on the road. "If you’ve dug deep enough, you’d know what I can do. Don’t test me." After saying his piece, Dane ended the call and powered off his phone, concentrating solely on the road ahead.

"Mr. Zhang, is that Dom? Are they sending help?"

The moment Tiger heard the woman’s voice in the background, his entire body froze. His face stiffened as he listened to Dane’s parting threat before the line beeped.

"Ivy." Tiger sprang up from his seat, nearly losing balance in the process. He barely caught the woman’s voice, but he recognized it unmistakably. Balling his hands into tight fists, he took a step, accidentally stepping on his phone, the same one the old man had broken earlier.

His eyes blazed with fire, teeth clenched, as he stormed out of the office, disregarding the blood covering him.

"Dimitri..." he growled through gritted teeth. "There’s no fucking end to this, huh?"
