Chapter 828: You don’t trust me anymore, do you?

Meanwhile...

"Why isn’t he answering?" Ivy murmured to herself, listening to the line ring. When the call abruptly ended, she looked at her phone with genuine wonder in her eyes. "He told me to call him as soon as possible after I read his message."

Ivy shook her head and tried reaching Tiger once more. Much to her dismay, this time, she couldn’t reach him at all.

"What’s going on?" she muttered, peeling her phone from her ear. "He always answers my calls..."

She trailed off as a sudden sense of dread crept up her spine. Her heart suddenly thudded, making her clasp her chest. Deep lines appeared between her brows, and she gripped her phone a little tighter.

"Could it be that he’s in danger?" she wondered to herself, almost choking on her own breath at the thought.

Ivy was very much aware of Tiger’s situation. The man was honest, to the point where she was confused about whether to consider it good or bad. Although she knew there were more things she hadn’t learned, she had a general idea of Tiger’s circumstances.

"This is bad," she whispered, biting the tip of her thumb.

Knock knock.

Ivy snapped her eyes to the door of her office. Entering after three knocks was her assistant, holding a bunch of papers for Ivy to review.

"Miss Wei, I brought—"

"What is my schedule for the rest of the day?" Ivy interrupted mid-sentence. Her assistant raised her brows, sensing urgency in her boss’s voice.

"You have a meeting with the team in an hour, and then you’re going on a site visit before meeting Miss Su—"

"Cancel everything."

"Miss Wei?" Ivy’s assistant furrowed her brows, confused. "Miss Wei, you’ve been trying to reach Miss Sue for months, and now’s the only chance for you to—"

"I’ll give her a call." Ivy didn’t let her assistant finish her sentence, aware of what the latter was going to say. She placed her hand on her desk, pushing herself up, and then grabbed her purse.

"Cancel everything I have for the day and probably tomorrow, okay?" Ivy continued in a hurry. "Tell them there’s an emergency."

With that said, Ivy hurriedly stormed out of her office, even though she had just arrived minutes ago. Meanwhile, her assistant remained standing in the same spot, tilting her head to the side.

"An emergency?" the assistant murmured to herself. "If there’s an emergency, shouldn’t it reach me first?"

The assistant stared at the door where Ivy exited, still confused. "Miss Wei is surely becoming more and more carefree."

Ivy didn’t waste a millisecond as she rushed to the parking space. Making her car screech, she immediately drove away. On the road, she still tried to reach Tiger, but to no avail. His phone was turned off.

"He’s scaring me," she murmured, multitasking as she checked her tracker on the phone. It wasn’t that she was obsessive of Tiger to put a GPS tracker on himself. In truth, it was the opposite.

Tiger installed a tracker on her phone, reassuring her it was merely for safety purposes. From his mouth, he told her it was to make sure he knew where she was if the worse came to worst. Ivy expressed her feelings about it, and to appease her, he installed the same app on his phone so she knew where he was.

Who would have thought this would come in handy sooner than expected?

"But why... is he in Mr. Zhang’s hometown?" she wondered to herself. Ivy had been infatuated with Dane in the past and knew many things about him, including where he lived in the past and present, his family background, and what he was like as a kid.

"Dane Zhang," she breathed out, dialing Dominic’s phone number while driving. "Please, Dom. Pick up the phone."

Knowing Dominic, Ivy wasn’t expecting much. All these years, the man rarely picked up his phone, and she was already used to it. Even so, she wanted to try her luck and see if the heavens were on his side today.

"Yes?"

Ivy heaved a sigh of relief the moment she heard Dominic’s voice on the line. "Dom!"

"Hmm?"

"Where are you?"

Dominic didn’t answer immediately, glancing at his phone in confusion. The urgency in her voice was apparent.

"Is there something wrong?" he asked, putting the phone back to his ear. "What’s with the tone?"

"I don’t know!" Ivy cleared her throat. "To be honest, I don’t know if there’s something wrong. But I feel like something might happen. Where are you?"

Dominic took a moment to answer again. He glanced at the front passenger seat, catching Bear’s eyes from the driver’s seat through the rearview mirror. He then shifted his gaze to the front passenger seat.

"We’re on the way to the border of Cake County."

"Alright." Ivy nodded. "Is Mr. Zhang with you?"

Again, Dominic took a moment before replying. He glanced at the front passenger seat again.

"Yes," he whispered. "Why are you asking?"

"Nothing! I’ll see you there!" After saying her piece, she ended the call and placed her other hand on the steering wheel. With a brief glance at the side mirrors, Ivy made an abrupt turn in the middle of the highway.

"Is that the chief of the event?" Dane glanced back at the backseat after the call. As soon as he did, Dominic was sliding his phone back into his suit.

"No." Dominic kept his answer concise. "It was Miss Wei."

"Miss Wei?" Dane furrowed his brows. "Why is she calling you?"

"No idea." Dominic shrugged, noticing the curiosity on his assistant’s face. "Dane, do you have eyes on the back of your head?"

"Sir?"

"You always do that," he remarked, looking away from the front passenger seat to the window. "You can always tell whenever I end a call, even without looking at me."

"Heh. Probably instinct." Dane smiled slightly, noticing Dominic’s slight head shake.

"Maybe," was all Dominic replied, maintaining his silence afterward. Dane stared at Dominic for a moment before sighing. When he looked away and readjusted his seat, he caught Bear giving him a side-eye.

Dane pressed his lips into a thin line, fixing his gaze on the windshield. Silence lingered in the car until Dane’s soft voice broke it.

"You don’t trust me anymore, do you?"
