Chapter 819: So, this is how I lost, huh?
"Mission Complete."
"Good." Heaven heaved a sigh of relief, nodding in understanding. "Don’t be complacent. Let me know once you confirm he didn’t catch up."
After saying her piece, Heaven cut off the call shortly. She put her hand down, resting it on the edge of the kitchen counter. Her lips formed into a thin line as she let out another deep exhale. Glancing at the pot she was cooking, she lowered the heat and then shifted her attention back to her phone.
Heaven dialed a number and placed the phone in front of her ear, listening to it ring a few times before it was picked up.
"Hello, Miss Liu." the person on the other end was Primo. His voice conveyed he was in a good mood. "I assume you called because you already heard what happened? Just how do you do it? Did Joker tell you? Or was it your husband?"
"I called not to be interrogated."
"Yes, my bad." Primo cleared his throat, reclining on the lush greenery beneath him. He gazed at the clear blue sky, smirking. "Miss Liu, I recorded that video call with Dragon, in case you want to see his face. I must say, it was a satisfying sight to behold."
"No One, this is not the time for you to idle," Hera’s tone was quiet and solemn. "After this, Dragon will do everything he can to hunt you down. You and Joker."
"Will you really not answer even one of my questions?"
Heaven took a deep breath and exhaled, rolling her eyes in irritation. However, she didn’t complain; she had seen this scenario coming when she decided to use this man as her scapegoat.
"Fine. I won’t ask!" he conceded after several seconds of silence. "Don’t worry, Miss Liu. I’ve been in this business for a long time. I know the ins and outs."
"Did you read all the documents I left for you?"
"Ehh... Miss Liu, you surely know how to insult someone without trying." Primo clicked his tongue faintly, understanding the meaning behind her seemingly harmless inquiry. "I fully understand that the top dogs are playing a much more complicated game compared to the one I used to play in the past. However, that doesn’t change a thing. I admit I was a little overwhelmed at everything I found out and felt a little small and foolish, but at the end of the day, I know the basics."
"That’s the most important thing, right?" he added.
Another moment of silence lingered on the line before Heaven let out another deep exhale.
"Yes," she breathed out, nodding. "Even so, remember that Dragon is not your only enemy right now."
"Dragon was never my enemy, Miss Liu. He was your enemy, not mine. My enemy is that other guy, Dimitri." Primo clicked his tongue once more. "Anyway, the person I’m impersonating is none other than Hera Cruel. Surely, you mesmerized me, Miss Liu. How did you know about that woman?"
"Thanks to you."
"You’re welcome. Have you checked the hospital I told you where I saw her?"
"She’s not there anymore."
"Make sense."
Heaven turned around, propping her back against the counter and shifting her phone to the other side. "No One, don’t bother with anything else. There’s a high possibility Dragon might know the person behind this fakery."
"Huh?" A deep frown instantly took over Primo’s face. "Miss Liu, don’t tell me you didn’t ask Joker to protect my device, and it is now easily tracked down by Dragon’s team?"
"No. I made sure your location will be safe. However..." she trailed off, taking a deep breath. "The mere fact we don’t know who Dimitri is changes a lot of things. We don’t know where the hell he is right now and what face he is using."
Primo ran his tongue across his inner cheek as he pondered. His lips parted, but his voice rolled back into his throat. Part of him was impressed by her keen insights, but another part felt a sense of dread creeping up his spine.
"So, this is how I lost, huh?" he muttered, making her arch a brow.
"What are you saying?"
"Nothing, Miss Liu." Primo cleared his throat and shook his head. "Anyway, are you going to pick me up tomorrow?"
"That... I’m not sure. But if I can’t make it, someone else will."
"I hope they’re not Dragon’s people." He hummed, snapping his eyes at the beautiful sky. "Unless I take down Dimitri myself, I won’t allow myself to die."
"If that’s your resolve, then you better get yourself together," she replied and paused for a moment before she added, "I never thought that I’d ever work with you. However, I hope with this, we’d get the peace we seek, Alexander."
After saying her piece, Heaven ended the call. She immediately placed the phone on the counter beside her, burying her face in her palm. She took a deep breath and then breathed it out. When she dropped her hands from her face, another deep exhale escaped her.
"Mommy?"
Heaven raised her brows and looked back, smiling as soon as her eyes fell on Sebastian standing by the entrance. Sebastian studied his mother with his doe eyes, blinking them innocently.
"Are you sad?" he asked curiously.
"No," she answered, marching toward her son. She squatted down in front of him, smiling wider. "Why are you here, sweetheart? Weren’t you playing with Uncle Gray?"
"I was playing hide and seek, but then I saw you here," he answered truthfully, looking into his mother’s eyes deeply. "Mommy, are you sure you’re okay?"
"Yes, baby." Heaven cupped his cheeks in affection. "Why wouldn’t I be?"
"Uncle Axel told me you were fired from your work, so I was a little worried."
"That brat..." Heaven grumbled under her breath but then quickly smiled for her son. "Baby, don’t listen to your uncle, hmm? His mental state is questionable. Mommy wasn’t fired. I resigned."
"But why?"
"Because..." she trailed off, scanning his adorable face. "Mommy realized that the career she wants isn’t acting or being in the office."
Her eyes softened, and she nodded at him reassuringly. "Mommy decided that she’ll be a housewife to take care of the family."
"You will stay here always?" His eyes twinkled, melting her heart and, at the same time, it clenched. "With me and Miri?"
"Yes."
The moment her answer rolled out of her tongue, Sebastian jumped to her and embraced her. Her brows rose a little before she smiled, placing her hand on his back.
"Are you happy?" she asked, and he nodded. "Were you sad when Mommy had to go to work?"
Sebastian slowly drew his head back to look at her. "I don’t hate it when Mommy was working, but I like it more if you’re home a lot more."
"Basti..." her eyes softened, pulling him into her embrace again. "Don’t worry. Mommy will always be with Basti from today onwards."
Sebastian’s smile stretched even wider until his eyes were squinting, clearly thrilled to know his mother would be staying at home with them. Meanwhile, her heart warmed up, knowing she made the right call when she sent her resignation letter to take care of her family: her current family and the previous one.
