Chapter 795: It’s called diligence

Chapter 795: It’s called diligence

Days flew by in the blink of an eye, and Axel found himself almost camping on the secret floor. Ever since his sister-in-law asked him for a favor, she had been here for days. Axel had informed the chief that the secret floor was still occupied and everyone should take a few days off.

"What is she doing?" he muttered, tapping the end of his pencil against the paper in front of him. He craned his neck over the monitor, catching Heaven’s silhouette. "Doesn’t she have any plans to go home? She’s been here for days now."

It was getting concerning. Dominic would visit her at night, but Heaven would simply apologize and say she couldn’t come home yet. Axel had asked his brother about Heaven’s activities, but Dominic would just shrug.

A faint beep interrupted Axel’s thoughts, and he glanced instinctively at his watch. It was noon. Lunchtime. Axel wordlessly pushed himself away from the desk, eyes lingering on Heaven.

"Sis, it’s lunchtime," he announced as soon as he straightened up. But just like the past several days, he received no response. Another sigh escaped him, shaking his head as he dragged his feet away from the room.

In the beginning, people would come in and serve them lavish food, but spending day and night in this room without going out was suffocating. Hence, today he asked his people not to bring him food; he wanted to eat outside the secret room.

As Axel reached the exit, he glanced back at her once more. Heaven remained engrossed in her work on the keyboard and monitor, seemingly oblivious to his presence.

"Whatever," he muttered, shaking his head again as he left.

Meanwhile, various tabs kept appearing and disappearing on Heaven’s monitor screen. She wasn’t pretending to be deaf or ignoring Axel. Her undivided attention was focused on the project she had been working on for days.

"Here."

Heaven jolted when a sharp clang rang in her ear. She stopped working, turning to see Axel standing beside her, holding a cup of coffee, his eyes full of disbelief.

"I’ve already eaten and had a walk, and here you are, still doing the same thing you were doing when I left. Sis, I promise I won’t judge you if you answer me honestly."

He paused, huffing once more. "Are you on drugs?"

"Huh?" Deep lines appeared between her brows as she tilted her head. "Are you on crack?"

"I asked first!" Axel gasped in dismay. "You’ve been here for days, and you haven’t even showered! Not just that, you haven’t been eating! If you’re not on drugs, then I don’t know how to explain this!"

Heaven blinked, a little confused. "It’s called diligence. And who told you I don’t shower? You have a nice bathroom in your office."

"What?" he gasped again. "You’re using my shower?"

"I sleep there too. Dom gave me the password, telling me he has a small room connected to his office," she explained knowingly. "How come you don’t know that?"

"I know, but I’m not as much of a workaholic as my brother!"

"Well, I guess you’re losing a lot of money then. Do you know how much you lose in travel time from home to work in a year?"

"Sis, I came here because you haven’t eaten anything since I came." Axel clicked his tongue in irritation, nodding towards the fast food takeout he got for her. "I didn’t ask the chef to make us anything for a change. So I grabbed you a burger."

Heaven glanced at the paper that landed on her desk, her lips curling up into a smile. "Thank you, Axel. I really appreciate that."

"Just eat it," he muttered as he pulled a nearby chair to sit on it and enjoy his coffee. "Sis, can you tell me what you’ve been doing?"

"I’ll tell you when I have plenty of time," she replied, taking out the burger from the bag. "Right now, I still have to—"

"Can’t you pause for a moment?" He frowned, capturing her attention. "Working while eating won’t make a difference. Considering you’ve been working nonstop for days, it’s better to pause and take a deep breath. It might sound wasteful, but trust me. Sometimes, taking a moment to breathe gives greater results than exhausting your body and mind."

They stared at each other in silence. His brows rose, giving her a knowing look. Meanwhile, Heaven pondered his remarks before smiling. She unwrapped the burger leisurely, realizing she might experience burnout if she kept this up.

"Well, I’m trying to create a virus," she explained nonchalantly, taking a large bite that made her next words barely understandable. "I’m creating something that can’t be easily taken down because I plan to infiltrate some people’s data. To do that, I have to breach their defense systems."

Axel took a moment to understand her explanation. "You’ve been creating a virus all this time? To access people’s data? Sis, can’t you get the information you need from this floor’s program system?"

"Do you think I’d waste my time creating this virus if I could?" She deadpanned, making him clear his throat, realizing how foolish his question was.

"After a few days, weren’t you done with this virus?" he asked.

"I finished it last night."

Axel furrowed his brows, confused. "Then what were you working on now?"

"Besides the virus, I’m creating a stronger defense system for this place," she explained, grabbing the large soda and sipping it slowly. When she swallowed her food, she continued. "The people I’m trying to upset will surely try to find my location. I’m not giving them that."

A glint flickered across her eyes. "Things will get a little crazy soon, Axel," she winked, maintaining a smug and devious grin.

"Anyway, Axel, can you help me shoot a video?"

Axel squinted his eyes, looking at her suspiciously. At this point, he wasn’t so foolish to believe that all her requests weren’t weird and that they weren’t really trustworthy. But in the end, because he loved his sister, he found himself nodding and even directing the video she asked him to.
