Chapter 792: Agent

Meanwhile...

"Ugh!"

Deborah let out a squeal as she crashed into a wall. She clenched her teeth, gripping her wounded shoulder, and glared daggers at the man who caught her and dragged her into the storage room. When she saw Hunter, the man who was standing outside Hera’s room, she fought fiercely. But with her current state, Hunter easily seized her and dragged her into this place.

"Hunter..." Her voice shook, glancing at the dusty storage room. "... is this place going to be my grave?"

A look of ridicule swirled in her eyes, letting out a series of jagged laughter. She shook her head mildly.

"No," she refused. "This place will not be my grave."

Hunter maintained a plain expression before he glanced over his shoulder. After a moment, he stepped into the storage room and closed the door. Seeing his action, Deborah’s shoulder stiffened as her mind quickly thought of ways to save herself.

’I’m sorry, Hera,’ she thought, knowing Hunter was one of Dragon’s most loyal henchmen. This man had a much higher rank than Deborah, and thus, she was certain he would kill her. There was already an order for her head, after all.

Deborah glanced over her shoulder, catching a few boxes of flour and some broken wood. This storage room hadn’t been touched for a long time. Thus, there were tons of useless stuff in this place. Even so, she had to used anything to defend herself since Hunter took her gun.

"Hunter," she called, taking a careful step back. "Dragon killed my sister. You know that my sister is all I have. I did everything he asked me to — I was loyal to him. But what did he do?"

Deborah took another step, eyes still on the man. "He betrayed me first, Hunter. What I’m doing is simply a retaliation."

"You betrayed him first when you tried to kill Hera Cruel in that morgue," Hunter replied monotonously, watching her take another step back. "Deborah, I warned you before. Don’t get too close, but you didn’t listen. Instead, you got too attached to June that her death affected you."

"I thought he loved her!"

"No." Hunter shook his head mildly. "You know, for a fact, Dragon will never love June. If he did, he wouldn’t ask her to go under the knife multiple times to look exactly like Hera Cruel."

Deborah’s breath hitched as she froze, eyes shaking. Hunter, on the other hand, remained calm.

"You got too close to June because she reminded you of her sister. Innocent, gentle, and warm. June is a warm person, someone who will accept even the flaws we cannot accept ourselves. She loved Dragon, despite knowing he sometimes murders people for fun." Hunter stressed to get his point across. "You deluded yourself that Dragon loved her and thus, it’s okay to be so close."

He shook his head while keeping his eyes on her. "You are the first one to betray him."

"So what?" Deborah balled her hand into a tight fist as her eyes stung, and teeth clenched. "Hera Cruel deserved to die more than June! She is no better than us, while June... and my sister... they were simply a victim of this so-called life."

Her lips curled in ridicule. "Hunter," she called under her breath, pounding her chest loudly. "He could have just killed me. I was the one who did him wrong — not Tarrah! I’m already paying the price for what I’ve done to Hera! My guilt for her and June... is already killing me inside."

"He should’ve just killed me!" she screamed her lungs out as a tear rolled down her cheeks. "Why did he have to take Tarrah instead of me?!"

Hunter kept his thin lips drawn into a thin line before he huffed quietly. "It’s not him."

"What?"

"It wasn’t Dragon who killed Tarrah, Deborah."

"Huh?" Deborah scoffed as she raised her brows. "Hunter, do you take me for a fool? Do you think I will believe that bullshit?"

"It was Dimitri, Dragon’s sworn brother."

For a moment, Deborah’s ears deafened as she looked at Hunter in disbelief. Dimitri? Dragon’s right-hand man? The man who almost had the same power as Dragon? The man who founded this organization?

"When Dragon found out you unearthed June’s remains and moved her remains somewhere else, he was hesitant about how to punish you. After all, Dragon considered everything you have done for him," Hunter explained solemnly. "Before he could order anyone, Dimitri already ordered for your sister’s death."

"What?" Deborah’s lips quivered as another tear rolled to her cheek. "Dimitri?"

Hunter nodded. "Dimitri might’ve been away, but there’s nothing we know that he doesn’t. You should know by now that when Dragon wanes, Dimitri puts him in place and on the right track. That is why... when Dragon hadn’t done anything to you, Dimitri made a move."

"No." Deborah shook her head, denying his explanation. "It’s Dragon. I know it’s him... if it’s not him, then why did he order to kill me right after telling me he’d let me go?!"

Deborah’s eyes shone malevolently, laughing at herself for almost believing the man. She shook her head, telling herself Hunter was lying.

"Hunter, you don’t have to protect Dragon," she warned while laughing through her tears. "Dragon and I... I know it’s foolish, but we can’t live in the same timeline anymore. I’m going to kill him. If not, then he’d kill me. Even if you say all this bullshit, there’s no way I’ll foolishly grovel at his feet and beg him for mercy..."

Deborah trailed off when Hunter suddenly took out something from his suit. She furrowed her brows and squinted her eyes at the card — like an ID — he was showing. After reading the name underneath Hunter’s picture, she slowly gazed up at him, confused.

"There’s no need for me to lie." Hunter let out a huff as he tossed his license card in her direction, in which she caught on instinct. "I do not need to protect Dragon, since he’s been my target all this time. I’m just telling you the truth."

Deborah looked down at the card in her hand and almost gasped. When she looked up, she forced out a breath as she asked;

"Hunter... you’re... an undercover agent?"
