Chapter 785: Prove it.

"Frank. Do you really love me? Or were you just keeping me because you feel responsible for me?"

Dragon blanked momentarily at the questions she threw at him. Normally, he wouldn’t hesitate to lie right in front of her face. But now, he already had his back turned to her, and yet, he couldn’t answer quickly.

Does he love her?

Or does he only feel responsible for her?

Why would he feel responsible for her? Why? Because she got into an accident which led to years of a coma? He knew very well it wasn’t an accident, and her memories were purposely erased. Therefore, he wouldn’t have the need to feel responsible for her, since everything was planned from the beginning. However, that particular question somehow caught him off guard.

Dragon didn’t know what to answer. The question never crossed him.

"Please..." Hera’s muffled voice snapped him back to reality. "Say something."

Dragon quietly reached for the hands locked on his abdomen. He slowly turned around, gazing down a little, only to see a tear rolling down her cheek at that very moment.

"I’m not angry," he expressed under his breath. "I’m disappointed. After all these years, I was expecting that you’d trust me more than anyone else. That I’d be the first person you’d look for if something bad happened. But alas, not only did you not look for me, but you dare hide it from me."

"I’ve been good to you, always been. Yet, you trust others more than me," he continued with a tone that he never knew he had in him. "I’m at my wit’s end, Hera. Just what should I have to do — just how far should I go and what else should I sacrifice just so you see me?"

Hera bit a small portion of her inner lips, assessing that indescribable look in his eyes. She knew, deep in her heart, those words weren’t just for this instance. They were the questions he always had for the original Hera.

"I’ve always been here for you," he continued, grabbing her wrist and tugging it mildly. He could feel this familiar tickle in his heart as he panted for air, trying to control his emotions, even in this state. "Why do you always make me feel so powerless and pathetic, Hera?"

For some reason, Hera’s heart ached. Despite the overwhelming anger she harbored toward this man, there was this sudden clench in her heart. Perhaps, a natural reaction of the real Hera’s heart. She pressed her lips as her eyes softened.

Instead of saying anything in return, Hera stood on her toes. She tilted her head to the side, closing her eyes as she placed a kiss on his lips. Dragon instantly froze at her action, wide-eyed.

"I always see you, Frank," she whispered, drawing her head back from him. "If only you knew I’ve always had my eyes on you."

A soft smile graced her face, reaching for his hand that was grabbing her wrist. She guided it to her cheek, leaning her cheek against his palm.

"You," she said. "Just have to see that I’m also here, always been. Be it in the past or right now, I’ve always been here for you."

What she said was the truth. The real Hera had always been there for him. Even when everyone around her was telling her Dragon was no longer worthy of trust, Hera disregarded everything. She disregarded her hunches, her beliefs, and even herself just for him. She almost lost her life for him, and yet, she never harbored deep hatred toward him. What he had done didn’t anger the real Hera, but rather, it hurt her.

"I love you from the bottom of my heart, Frank," she expressed, sporting a short smile while nodding reassuringly at him. "Do you also feel the same way?"

Dragon’s lips parted a little, but his voice didn’t come out. He had to swallow the tension rising in his throat before he nodded.

"I do, Hera," he admitted. "From the day I met you until now, though right now might’ve been a little more of everything, I do."

"Prove it."

"Hmm?" His brows rose and slightly knitted at her answer. "Do I still have to prove my feelings for you, even after everything? Was it not enough?"

Hera kept her resolute expression before she slowly held her biceps, gaze still on him. "Touch me," she whispered, squeezing her biceps as this would be her actual first time, if ever. But there was no going back. He had to forget her stained clothes; he had to forget that closet.

"What did you say?" he asked, almost in disbelief. "You want me to...?"

"I asked the doctors yesterday." Her cheeks turned a little pinkish as she looked away. "It was a little embarrassing, but I have to know if it is safe to spend a night with my husband. The closest we got so far is holding hands and a kiss on your cheek. The doctors told me it’s safe, as long as we’re careful and gentle. My health had recovered drastically, and in no time, I..."

Hera trailed off as he suddenly stretched his arms out, cupping her face to make her look back at him. Before she could grasp the situation, his lips were already on hers, breathing in her breath deeply. She instinctively held his arms, breath hitching.

"Mhm..." a soft moan slipped past her lips as he slipped his tongue in between them, exploring her mouth with it. Hera squinted, gazing at the closet behind him, before mentally sighing in relief.

’Good thing I’ve expected the worst,’ she thought, closing her eyes, and allowing his arm to snake around her body. She slowly released his wrist, moving her arms to wrap around his neck, her lips following his guidance.

Hera took a careful step back as he made a step forward, prepared to do everything she could to be useful this time. Even if it means offering this body, she would... stomach it.
