Chapter 748: Celebrity in Dragon’s Lair

[I forgave you back then. You can make up for that ’mistake’ by looking after her. However, if you harm her again, rest assured you’ll loathe your parents for ever bringing you into this world and, in this lifetime, where I am in it.]

Dragon’s parting remarks to Deborah lingered in her mind even after he left. She discreetly followed him, only to witness Hera and Dragon having a romantic dinner in the garden. As Deborah stood in the dark corner of the garden, she couldn’t help but remember his words from that time.

"I don’t need to harm her again to loathe myself for letting you into my life," she muttered to herself, her eyes flickering with malice. "I should’ve known I was signing my soul to the devil."

Her eyes gleamed once more as she slowly shifted her gaze to the woman across from Dragon. From Deborah’s vantage point, she could see Hera’s blushing face, while she could only see Dragon’s back. However, she didn’t need to see Dragon’s expression since judging him solely based on appearances would be unwise.

"If she miraculously regained her memories, I’m pretty sure she would wish to sink into the ground for acting this way." She shook her head, no longer surprised by Hera’s current attitude.

Deborah had never met Hera in the past. If she had, Hera would have likely sought her demise, as Hera preferred people to remember her face as their last memory before sending them off to hell. Nonetheless, Deborah had heard many stories about Hera. Besides the common knowledge about her, Dragon used to talk about her whenever he got the chance. Therefore, she had a general idea of how fearsome Hera Cruel was.

Hera was the prime example of how equality should reign in the underground for all genders. Despite being a woman, even the most ruthless and twisted dons in the underground either feared or were wary of her. During her prime, Deborah never heard anyone refer to her as just a woman. They mockingly bestowed her with different titles, but only foolish individuals saw Hera as a mere woman they could dominate.

But now, here she was, blushing at whatever sweet nothings Dragon was whispering. Consequently, Deborah, who had attempted to kill Hera a few years back, felt disappointed by this version of Hera.

"I surely have some terrible luck," she murmured as she turned on her heel to leave, having had enough of the beautiful yet deceptive scene she was observing. "First, I met Dragon, and my life began to spiral out of control. And now, this. The once-revered queen of the underground is nothing but a fool, a regular woman who would naively fall for a man’s sweet talk."

Deborah shook her head as she walked inside the mansion. Despite her disappointment and the fact that Dragon knew about her past actions, she somehow felt calm. Not because she believed Dragon had forgiven her. She wasn’t foolish enough to believe that. Surely, he was only keeping her around to mock her and use her until she was no longer useful.

"I’m not like his trusted right-hand man who can maintain a position despite his long absence," she murmured, letting out another deep exhale. As she kept her eyes down while carefully navigating the hallway leading to her quarters, a subtle smile appeared on her face.

’She’s doing better now,’she thought, thinking of the only person who truly mattered to her and the reason she was in this line of business. ’So, I don’t mind resting now, even if it’s quite unfair.’

Leaving Dragon or staying in his organization wouldn’t make a difference to her. Dragon would still seek her demise wherever she was, so running away would be futile. She would rather sit back, relax, and wait for the day she was no longer useful to him. Quite foolish, but anyone in her shoes would understand.

As Deborah cast all her worries and thoughts aside, her steps slowed down. She turned her head upon reaching the small area that led to her quarters. Deep lines appeared between her brows as she noticed there were quite a few people here today.

"Hey," she called, gesturing to a man to get his attention. The man was heading in a different direction than she was about to take or the path she came from.

The man stopped and looked at Deborah.

"What’s going on here?" she asked without beating around the bush.

"Dragon asked us to take turns and look after a guy," the man answered without hesitation, confident that there was nothing to hide.

"But this isn’t the torture house," she remarked with furrowed brows. "Or was it a guest?"

"I don’t think he is a guest." the man shrugged. "He just told us not to let him escape. He didn’t mention extracting any information from him."

Deborah pondered for a moment. Knowing Dragon, he wouldn’t allow even a hostage to stay in this place. He had other places with different purposes. Typically, if he captured someone, he would send them to the torture house for information or to the warehouse for disposal. Although there were a few exceptions in the past, this was still considered out of character.

Curious, Deborah smacked her lips. "Do you guys need help?"

"What for?" the man cocked his head to the side. "The hostage can’t even get out of his bed. And even if he could, it wouldn’t be difficult to deal with him."

"I’m curious about who this celebrity he brought home is." She waved dismissively as she took a step toward the man. When she stood beside him, she tapped his shoulder reassuringly. "I’ll cover your shift."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course," she smiled widely. "Dragon won’t find out about it."

The man squinted his eyes before a wide grin spread across his face. "You better keep your word," he said, excited to continue his gambling session with his comrades.

Deborah and the man didn’t idle for long as he simply told her which room she should guard. She didn’t waste time and headed to the place he indicated, wondering just what kind of incredible feat Dragon had achieved this time. After all, the only people he had brought home before were significant figures in the underground.

But much to her dismay, when she reached the room and peeked inside, it was not anyone she expected. Instead, the person inside was a genuine celebrity, not just an "underground" celebrity.
