Chapter 730: Bloodbath

"So?" Ivy looked up at Tiger, her hand on his inked chest. "Does this mean you are safe?"

Tiger arched a brow as he looked down at her, using his other arm as a pillow underneath the back of his head. "For now, yes."

"For now?" Her lips curved downward, and she propped her elbow against the mattress to look at him better. "What do you mean by that?"

"Doubling the bounty on my head doesn’t necessarily mean people will not come after me," he explained with a light chuckle, poking the tip of her nose. "It only means those who were tempted to claim the fifty billion will buy me some time."

Her mouth opened and closed, trying to process what he meant by that. In the end, she pressed her lips into a thin line, her eyes still on him.

"Are you saying some people will most likely ignore your request? While others might change their minds?"

"Everything is just business, nothing personal." He shrugged indifferently. "It’ll be a bloodbath."

"By bloodbath, you don’t mean the real thing, right?"

Tiger squinted his eyes for a moment, only to realize everything he was saying was new to her. It was already surprising she was taking everything better than expected. If this were other people, they would’ve fled the moment he mentioned the bounty on his head.

"Do you think I was not serious?" he asked out of plain curiosity.

"Well." She hesitated as she forced a smile. "Considering you aren’t that bad, maybe?"

Tiger smiled as he nodded at her encouragingly. "Good. Keep thinking that way."

A deeper frown turned up on her face as her brows creased. Ivy looked at him with genuine wonder in her eyes, clearing her throat before dropping the topic.

"Anyway, you still haven’t told me why people want you dead and why people want to kill your sister?" she inquired, curious. "What did she do?"

"It’s a long and complicated story." Tiger slowly peeled his eyes from her as he set his attention to the high ceiling. "But to sum it all up, my sister is quite ambitious."

"And this ambition pushed you all into this situation?" Ivy clicked her tongue, having a really bad impression of Tiger’s sister.

First, his sister ’faked’ her death. And now that she returned, Tiger had no choice but to take her side because he truly loved her. From her perspective, Tiger’s sister was selfish and manipulative.

"Before you judge her, she’s done everything she did because of our family," he muttered without looking at her. "My sister is amazing with a simple dream. She used to wish to marry, have children, and live in a small town while working as a farmer."

"Then why hadn’t she done so?" Ivy let out a short scoff. "Tiger, I’m confused. You said she’s ambitious, only to add another information that is the total opposite of your first claim."

"Her life is a complicated one." This time, he cast her a look with a subtle smile. "She wasn’t in the position to choose herself, babe. My sister can’t and never chose herself. It’ll always be the family before hers, regardless of her personal opinion or feelings."

Deep lines appeared between her brows. Now that he was putting light on the other side of his sister, Ivy’s impression of Tiger’s sister also waned.

"She had to forget about her dream to pursue power, control, and influence. She had done so because if she didn’t, we’ll never even meet," he continued solemnly. "I owe my life to her, and she’s the only person who stood with me even in the most trying times of my life. She once took a bullet for me and didn’t even bring it up. That is why her death is beyond devastating — I couldn’t accept it. But now that things happened, and she ended up alive, I want to make it up to her."

The corner of his mouth curled up as his eyes softened, caressing Ivy’s jaw with the back of his hand. "But once this is over, I’ll come back to you and see the end of what I started with you."

"Are you asking me to wait?" she asked quietly, only to see him shake his head. "Then, what?"

"I’m asking you to continue walking on the path you chose." His smile stretched. "I’ll catch up."

A moment of silence befell the two of them while holding each other’s gaze. Ivy bit her bottom lips, still keeping a myriad of questions in her mind. However, she chose to hold back from asking more since knowing there was a bounty on his head was already too much for her to process.

"Just so you know," she said after a moment, smiling affectionately at her. "It’s been a while since I hit the gym and trained my stamina. So, I’ll probably walk very, very slowly — like a turtle."

"No rush." He grinned, winking at her. "Take your time. Don’t worry about taking breaks in between. It’ll be easier to catch up that way."

The corner of her mouth slowly curled up, staring deep into his eyes. After a moment, her eyes fell on his lips before she lifted her gaze at him again.

"I think I’m going if this continues," she whispered as she drew a deep breath, moving her face closer to him.

When their lips made contact, he grinned against her lips. "Then, I guess you’ll die with a smile on your face," he quipped, cupping her face, inhaling her heated breaths as their tongues locked in a passionate kiss.

Just right outside the luxury high-rise condominium, a car was parked a few blocks from the area.

"Did you see it?" the man sitting in the front passenger seat smirked maliciously. "Another request is up, and it’s worth fifty billion."

The man looked at the driver’s seat, only to see a man resting his chin on the top of his knuckles on the steering wheel.

"Mhm." The driver hummed, his eyes on the high-rise condominium. "Fifty billion, huh?"

"People have truly gone wild." The man in the front passenger seat looked away, chuckling. "Even if he doubles the bounty on his head, what’s the point? People will still choose to go after him to get on Dragon’s good side—"

The man’s breath hitched as his eyes went wide. He slowly turned his hand, pressing his hand on the side of his neck when the man in the driver’s seat pulled the knife out. He made a few gasps in an attempt to breathe, but darkness immediately consumed him. The man passed out in the front passenger seat, bleeding to his death.

The man in the driver’s seat smirked, wiping the bloodstained knife with the hem of his shirt. "Who wants to lick Dragon’s filthy shoes when you can retire with fifty billion?" he smirked, gazing up at the windshield.

This was only a short and simple example of the after-effect of Tiger’s request. Those who originally came to take the bounty on his head changed their minds the moment they realized the amount of money they could get to keep the man alive. Others still wanted to pursue the original request, thinking they could get plenty of benefits to be associated with Dragon.

And with these differences in philosophy, ambition, and motivation led to a bloodbath.
