Chapter 715: People makes mistake
After sharing a couple of beers with Heaven, the two of them parted ways. It was getting late, and, knowing her, Heaven would head home to see her children. Meanwhile, Tiger had important matters to attend to that could wait until tomorrow. He had promised Heaven that he would address the situation with Ivy, and resolving it as soon as possible would save everyone some time.
Tiger stood in front of the door for quite some time. He had probably arrived there five minutes ago, but for the past few minutes, all he had done was stand in front of the door.
"I hope she’s still awake," he mumbled as he pressed the doorbell button on the side. The button didn’t make a sound from the outside, but it certainly got the attention of the owner of his condominium unit. After several seconds had passed with no response, he rang the doorbell once again.
Tiger counted to five before ringing the bell once more. He pressed it a few times, but his face didn’t reveal the slightest impatience. Considering the late hour, Ivy was most likely sleeping and struggling to get up from her bed.
"I’m not leaving until you come out," he murmured, about to press the doorbell once more when the door suddenly flew open from the inside.
"Who is ringing the door at this hour?" Ivy squinted her eyes as she looked at the person standing outside her place. Deep lines instantly appeared between her brows as she recognized the man outside. "Tiger?"
"The one and only."
"What are you doing here?" Her voice was slightly coarse as she widened her eyes. She glanced at her wrist out of habit, only to realize she wasn’t wearing her watch.
"It’s two in the morning," said Tiger, regaining her attention. "Miss Wei, do you always open the door without checking who is outside?"
"Uh... no?"
Tiger raised an eyebrow and cocked his head, not buying her obvious lie.
"Tiger, did you come here to nitpick on me?" she asked as she covered her body with the silk robe she was wearing. Her brows creased even more as she leaned forward for a second, catching a whiff of alcohol on him.
"Are you drunk?" she asked, looking up to lock eyes with him. "Did you go to a bar again?"
"I’m not drunk, but I had a couple of beers by the side of the bridge."
"Huh?"
"Anyway, you shouldn’t open your door without checking who was outside." He sighed as his eyes fell on her body, which she was clasping her silk robe around. "Especially, wearing just that."
Ivy pressed her lips as she glanced down. Her nightwear was thin and comfortable; perfect for sleeping.
"I didn’t know you would come by," she said as she cleared her throat, convinced her nightrobe was enough to cover what was needed to hide and do its purpose. "Moreover, the last time someone rang that door was almost a year ago when Axel visited me. No one visits me here during the day, let alone at night, where it was more of a bother than a visit."
"Fair point."
"Anyway, what are you doing here?" she asked out of plain curiosity. "Come in. I still have some porridge. It’ll help you sober up."
"Thanks, but no thanks."
Her brows rose at his quick refusal. "Alright." She nodded in understanding since she realized it was better if he didn’t come into her place at this hour. It wasn’t safe.
"So?" she cleared her throat as her eyes twinkled with curiosity. "Why are you here? You didn’t disturb my sleep just because you want to see me, right?"
"I’m sorry, but you’re right," he remarked, making her look back at him curiously. "I disturbed your sleep just because I wanted to see you."
"Goodness." She massaged her nape as she looked away, biting her lips, unsure what to feel about that.
"Miss Wei, actually, I have another reason," he explained, making her look back at him curiously. "I lied."
"What?"
"I lied when I said I’d still be in the same spot where you left me. In fact, I thought of leaving that spot for a moment and coming back as soon as possible before you find out I left."
Her brows slowly rose before they knitted. "Tiger, I’m confused. What do you mean by that?"
"I think I’m using all the simple words to relay the message, Miss Wei," Tiger explained without a second’s hesitation. "I lied, and it was intentional. I lied, and I knew I was lying right to your face."
Her lips parted for a moment, but her voice was stuck in her throat. All she could do was stare and study the unwavering resolution in his eyes. Tiger, who was confessing his ’sins,’ was quite unwavering.
"I know," she whispered as a subtle smile slowly formed on her face. "I knew you were lying last night about that part."
This time, Tiger furrowed his brows, as this wasn’t what he expected. Before coming here, he could already imagine the look of anger and disappointment in her eyes. However, instead of that, her eyes softened while she was smiling subtly.
"After interacting with you for some time, I kind of got a hang of your personality," she explained with a gentle tone. "But it still makes me happy. After all, you don’t lie. But you did... meaning, you are interested in me even a little and that you’re willing — if only nothing is holding you back."
Ivy peeled her hands from the door as she took two steps toward him. Her lips stretched broader as she stood on her toes. She placed her hands on his shoulders, tilting her head, and moving her face up until her lips touched his. Ivy closed her eyes as she breathed in his breath, smiling against his lips before drawing her head back.
"Thank you for being honest, though. I really appreciate it."
Tiger looked at her beautiful, smiling face in a momentary daze. After a second, he glanced over at her and gazed at the entrance behind her.
"It’s a mistake coming here to settle the matter as soon as possible," he mumbled as he gazed down at her, loosening his tie slightly. "But people make mistakes, don’t we?"
Tiger sprawled his hands toward her, cupping her jaw, and bent over to claim her lips in a more passionate and deep kiss. Her eyes widened for a moment before she slowly closed them, resting her arms over his shoulder while taking a step back as he marched inside with their tongues tangled in a passionate dance.
