Chapter 664: Isn’t he cute?
Meanwhile...
"Thanks for coming." Ivy smiled at the person sitting on the bedside table. "I’ve been watching the news. Is everything okay?"
"Mhm." Dane pressed his lips and smiled. "Are you okay?"
"Yes. I didn’t get hurt, but I’m still told to stay here," she explained, keeping it short and vague. After that night, Ivy passed out when her adrenaline wore out. Although she didn’t have any physical wounds, what she witnessed and went through stuck in her head. Therefore, she wanted to stay in the hospital to recover peacefully without the noise of the outside.
"I’m amazed that you’re able to recover quickly," she said after a moment of silence, knowing Dane only had a day off and then started working again. "Your face had been all over the news." — he was the spokesperson of the company and the Zhu family, after all.
Dane let out a short chuckle. "I have to work since my boss is in a comatose."
"Did Dom really get in a comatose?" she asked. "As far as I know, he was fine when... that night ended. But the news makes me second guess."
Dane didn’t answer as he smiled. He picked up the basket on the floor and placed it on the bedside table.
"I brought you some fruits," he said, turning his head in her direction. "I wish you a speedy recovery."
"Thank you." She nodded, guessing that was his way to change the topic.
"Anyway, I’ve seen some of your relatives outside the ward," he brought up as he unwrapped the plastic wrapper that was around the fruit basket. "They didn’t look a bit pleased to see me."
"Well, they blame the Zhu family for what happened to me." Ivy shrugged as she shared the obvious. "I remember how they kept complaining the next day, so I told them they should leave me alone. If only I could, I didn’t want to remember that night. But hearing them talk about it over and over isn’t helping."
"I see."
Ivy raised her brows as she asked. "Are you really okay?"
"Yes. Why wouldn’t I be?"
"You were there that night. So I think you should rest too."
"Miss Wei, resting and doing nothing, only makes me remember that night." Dane smiled as he looked back. "Though once everything is settled, I’d probably visit my hometown to recharge. For now, the company still needs me."
"Company..." she murmured, smiling bitterly, but not surprised to hear that from him. "The Lyon Group is really lucky to have you in their company."
"They should be grateful."
"I bet they already are." She chuckled, watching him go back to his seat with the wrapper crumpled in his hand. "Anyway, thanks for the fruit. Do you have any plans for the day?"
"I do. In about an hour, I have a press conference to attend and then a meeting." he listed everything he had to do for the day. "Good thing Sir Lionel is there to assist me. If not for him, things will become messier than it’s already were. How about your company?"
"Well, my company is doing well. As you can see..." she trailed off as she glanced at her side.
Seeing her action, Dane followed the direction she was looking. His eyes landed on the bunch of flowers in the corner of the ward, face twitching at the number of flowers that were twice as many as the ones the Zhu family received.
"My staff are keeping me posted. So far, this hasn’t affected my company," she continued as she set her eyes back on him. "But this affected the entire Wei Family. Our family owns the venue, after all. It’s true that they blame the Zhu family, but in the eyes of the public, it’s their fault this happened. If the security is tight, the masses believe this could’ve been prevented."
"I’m sorry."
"It’s okay." Ivy smiled brightly. "I find it entertaining. It’s fun to watch them be shaken. This also diverts their attention from me."
Dane raised his brows and sighed, shaking his head. Surely, this was something Ivy would say. She had a strange relationship with her family, after all. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say she was quite rebellious.
"Anyway, I’ve been meaning to ask this..." Dane cleared his throat as he pointed his thumb over his shoulder. "What is that guy doing here?"
"Huh?" Ivy furrowed her brows, shifting her eyes to the direction he was pointing. The corner of her lips curled up as soon as her eyes landed on the man occupying the long couch, eating the dishes on the rectangular coffee table that was sent to her.
"He’s one of the Zhu family bodyguards," she answered. "His name is Fig."
"I know that. That guy in particular is hard to forget," Dane returned with genuine curiosity. "I’m asking why is he here?"
"Tiger sent him."
"He did?"
Ivy nodded. "He said I might need company or else I might go insane if I’m all alone. So he sent me some company."
"I see." Dane nodded in understanding as he looked back, only to see Fig eating to his heart’s content. His face twitched as his eyes fell on the food on the table. "Is he even accompanying you properly? It appears to me he is just here because of the food."
"Haha. He doesn’t talk much, but he’s been very helpful," she defended as Dane looked back at her. "For instance, he eats all the food that is coming to this place. I can’t eat all of that, but because of him, no food is being wasted. Also, he stands by the door to block it whenever someone tries to come in."
"Oh... I guess his size is useful if you put it that way."
"He’s also cute. It’s like having a pet around. Just watching him eat is a delight."
Dane opened his mouth, but his voice didn’t come out. All he could do was smile and nod.
"Sure."
The two of them then slowly moved their attention to Fig. The latter’s mouth was full, looking back at them after a few minutes.
Fig blinked, taking out the food in between his teeth, and moved it forward. "Do you want a bite?"
"No, thanks." Dane shivered as he looked back at Ivy, who was chuckling.
"Isn’t he cute?"
’No, he’s a little gross,’ was what Dane wanted to say, but kept that thought in his mind. He just smiled at her, relieved she was doing much better than he thought she would.
