Chapter 360: [Bonus Chapter] call me big sis

There was never a time Dominic would ever wish to be just like any other child. But tonight, he wished that he could’ve simply trusted his uncle, Leon. He wanted to trust Leon and believe everything the latter had told him.

’That’s right.’ Dominic hugged his knees tighter, eyes on the dirty, dusty floor. ’There’s no way Uncle is involved in my abduction. He wouldn’t do that to me.’

Dominic nodded to himself, losing count of how many times he repeated those words since Leon left him alone in this room. He couldn’t hear anything outside, so he would constantly glance at the shut door.

’He’ll be okay, right?’he wondered to himself, assuming Leon was already negotiating with his abductors. ’He will be. Uncle Leon has his way with words that he’s the only person that can calm Dad down, aside from Mom.’

Again, Dominic nodded, shunning the question of why it was so quiet outside.

Ever since Leon left the room, there was no other noise that penetrated Dominic’s ears, aside from his thoughts and silence. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his abductors made a few noises if they knew Leon found where they held Dominic captive. However, there wasn’t anything like that.

’Or maybe I just missed it,’ Dominic convinced himself, nodding once again. ’My thoughts and heart are so loud. They probably panicked, and I just didn’t hear it.’

Dominic slowly raised his gaze at the door once again. "Is he really okay?"

Worry slowly filled his pair of innocent eyes, wondering what could happen to his uncle. Pure silence and noises were equally bad because of the potential danger Leon might face when confronting the kidnappers. Aside from the growing doubt, the growing anxiety in Dominic’s tender heart also branched out.

’I’m scared,’ he told himself, burying his face in his knees. ’I hope Uncle will be fine until Dad comes.’

Dominic prayed as hard as he could, hoping that tonight would end. He prayed that everyone would be safe once this was all over. No matter how torturously long every second felt, Dominic promised to wait patiently until everything was settled.

That was right.

Everything would be settled.

Especially since Leon was now in here, Lionel would surely come. Once Lionel arrived, everything would be okay, like how he easily settled matters in the past.

’Everything will be okay,’ Dominic told himself as many times as he could, just to squash down the worry and dread dominating his heart. ’Everything will be... okay...’

CREAK...

Dominic’s shuddering back stiffened at the loud creak that resonated in his ears. The door wasn’t supposed to sound so eerily loud, but due to the piercing silence, it sounded louder than it should have. He slowly raised his head, heart thudding, mind wondering who it might be.

Was it one of his abductors?

Or was it his uncle?

Maybe both?

All in a matter of milliseconds, Dominic prayed it was his uncle. He was afraid that if it was his kidnappers, they had probably hurt his uncle. Worse. Killed him.

However, all the intrusive thoughts invading his anxious mind instantly disappeared the moment his eyes landed on the door. He blinked and blinked. Even though one of his lenses was broken, he wasn’t seeing things.

There, by the door, was a young girl in a black puffy dress. Her hair was tied in a pigtail and her curls reached her shoulders. The girl was holding the knob, staring at him with equal surprise and curiosity.

"Are you hiding too?" she asked after a moment, blinking innocently.

"Who... are you?" the young Dominic blurted out, ignoring the girl’s question.

"I asked first," said the girl, pouting. She slowly closed the door behind her, marching toward the chubby boy curling into the corner.

"Are you also playing hide and seek?" she asked once more, squatting down in front of him.

"No — no." Dominic pressed his lips into a thin line. "Did they get you too?"

"Huh?"

"Those guys outside." His voice was barely above a whisper, pointing at the door where she came in. "You shouldn’t be walking around. If they found out, they will hurt you."

The girl studied the boy, bearing a naturally innocent countenance. "You want to be my friend?"

"Are you listening?"

"Mhm. I just don’t care." The girl blinked in nonchalance. "Those guys outside are a bit dull. I was watching them from the corner, but they bore me to death. It’s not fun listening to people who want to kill a child."

"What?"

"They will kill you."

Dominic’s face instantly paled at the girl’s insensitive remarks. Was she joking? They wouldn’t kill him. All those guys wanted was a portion of his family’s wealth.

"That’s impossible, my uncle..." His eyes shook as he moved it toward the shut door. His heart thudded louder, worried that something bad happened to his uncle.

"Uncle?" the girl cocked her head to the side. "What about your uncle?"

"He’s there..." Dominic slowly shifted his dilated and shaky eyes to the girl. "... I think they did something to him."

"Hmm... I don’t know about that. I didn’t see anyone dead yet."

"Are you sure?"

"Mhm."

Dominic furrowed his brows as he studied the girl even more. It didn’t seem like she was alarmed about her situation as well. But maybe because she was still a kid.

"Are you doubting me?" his breath hitched at her question as if she could read his mind. "I’m older than you. How dare you think I’m still a kid?"

"How —"

"Your thoughts show on your face." She pointed a finger at his face. "You’re like an open book. It’s so easy to read your face."

When she put her finger down, she rested them on her knees once again. "So, do you want to play?"

"Do you think this is a time to play?" Dominic frowned. "If you don’t understand your situation, then —"

"It’s you who doesn’t understand your situation," she abruptly stopped him mid-sentence. "If you play with me and become my friend, I’ll help you. But if you don’t, then I’ll let you die in their hands."

Huh?

Dominic looked at her with equal horror and puzzlement. This was just too random. Who was this girl, anyway? Why was she here?

"Why do I need to be your friend?" he still asked just out of curiosity.

The corner of her mouth stretched from ear to ear. "Because I don’t have a friend that’s around my age or younger. Call me big sis!"
